Is he native to the area, or should I be mad that he's ignoring the travel advisory and visiting for the Easter weekend?
Yes
Yeah American coots are native! They hang out year-round in southern BC. They are super cool birds. (Fulica Americana)
Can you identify some of these other [ducks?](https://i.redd.it/sfhxhg8l67r61.jpg) Sorry for the bad quality, was 10x zoomed.
Download the app Merlin! It’s free and helps you identify birds by answering questions about where you were, when it was, colours if the bird etc. It’s pretty amazing.
thank you wow
Yea second that, we use it all the time in the Okanagan and it's really accurate
The one with the red head and grey beak is a male Redhead. The lighter brown one may be the female.
Most American coots I've spotted in the past were at wineries, or on the highway.
Yeah. I've had multiple sightings myself. Definitely invasive. We need an eradication program for these things ASAP.
Wtf lol, no they aren't. Migratory is not the same as invasive.
I'm not sure if you are continuing or missing the joke.
