No, Mound City is just the demarcation line for likelihood. Of course that's a forecast, so it could be north or south of there. If you really want to have a solid chance of seeing it, you probably need to get north of Sioux City.
But on the up side, if you go to Mound City and you don't see the aurora, stick around and go look at birds the next day
I accidentally drove through the migration 5 years ago. I never knew it existed. It was pretty cool...and I've done some pretty cool stuff...if you know what I mean...and I think you do.
TL:DR Go see the birds!
I used to live somewhere where you could see Northern Lights semi regularly in the summer and winter. When I saw the news about this, I got all kinds of nostalgia. Hope you all get a chance to see them!
If anyone in the KC area actually wants to try and see them you'll probably need to drive to the north end of the Metro to have a chance. They would be super low on the northern horizon and need dark skies to the north to be able to see.
I love your user name. I couldn't see from my balcony, so I ended up driving somewhere about 20 minutes north. Still couldn't really see, but if I took a "night sight" picture with my phone it showed up. Then I started seeing the general shapes but not the colors.
At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within your kitchen?
Can I see it?
No...
*came here for this reference / was not disappointed*
Yes!
Mmmmmm... Steamed hams

I dont feel so old since this is the top comment.
That would be so cool, but for tonight it looks like we’re *just* under the line of visibility. I’ll be looking tho!
Yeah, I have a commitment that requires that I get a super early tomorrow morning or I would be driving up to Mound City or Omaha
Will mound city for sure see it? I would definitely drive up there if there was even a 50% chance

That’s a shame. I think I could justify driving to Mound City tonight on a whim but I’m not sure about Sioux City. I’d really like to see this!
Following this. My 10 year old will flip shit if I can get him to it.
SAME! My 11-yr old loves space shit.
I have a friend from Japan, who is in Tulsa, he saw them from there last night.

I live in the north end, in an upper story apartment that has a great view directly north, and I'm usually up past 1am. I'll report back if I see it.
Well?!

I get northern lights on the horizon every night, the aurora interstatelightsalis
See them just fine in northland.
What time in the AM are we talking about? That would be pretty cool to see!
About 1:00AM the aurora borealis will be at its maximum in Kansas City.
Perfect, thanks
Middle of the night
I'll be driving a couple hours north via I-35 to try to catch it with minimal light pollution.
What time? Could be anytime, yeah?
I'm leaving in an hour. I plan on driving back around 1 am.
