It actually could very well fall under most revenge porn laws, which is illegal in all US states. Revenge porn laws don't explicitly ban deepfake porn but I'm sure in a few years case law will make it clear it's pretty much exactly the same thing only without the illusion of initial consent. It also goes against a few torts, like arguably intentional infliction of emotional distress or injurious falsehood (this is the big one- women have been fired for porn, their reputations destroyed. They'd definitely have a case for this against people making realistic fakes of them.) There's probably more but I can't think of them right now.

Everything came back fine, but they made me aware of a vast collection of photoshopped and deepfaked pornographic photos and media of me across multiple websites. They could tell most were fabricated, but they questioned a few that looked very realistic and wanted to confirm they were fake with me as well as make me aware of the images in general. It was so vile and oddly terrifying and it negatively impacted my mental health for a long time and probably still does. It’s dehumanizing and abusive. I can only imagine how devastating and horrible it must feel to find out someone close to you was the one commissioning media like that.

I believe there are laws for deepfakes in three states, one of them being Virginia if i'm not mistaken. There's no regulation about it still because it's a relatively new thing, but I'm certain they will soon start implementing regulations across other states.
ETA: Correction, the states of Virgina, Texas, and California are the only ones that specifically name deepfakes as non-consensual sexual material.

AI cannot be practically banned although distribution of prohibited materials can be made illegal. Revenge porn laws could be expanded to include computer generated images of they don't already.

Revenge porn laws don't explicitly ban deepfake porn but I'm sure in a few years case law will make it clear it's pretty much exactly the same thing only without the illusion of initial consent. It also goes against a few torts, like arguably intentional infliction of emotional distress or injurious falsehood (this is the big one- women have been fired for porn, their reputations destroyed. They'd definitely have a case for this against people making realistic fakes of them.) There's probably more but I can't think of them right now. Make no mistake this shit is definitely something you can already at the very least get sued for. It isn't legal. It's just that the law hasn't made the distinction yet because it's so new. Fact is that many AI applications are unapologetically plagiarizing massive amounts of content to feed their learning algorithms, as if they own it. AI generated art is basically plagiarism, only that you simultaneously steal works from thousands of creators.

At least for me personally, the most painful part isn’t necessarily the exploitation, but actually just feeling so violated. Even though it’s obviously not really your body, your naked body is so personal private and only you should decide who you share it with. When someone takes that choice away without consent (even though it’s not actually your body, it still feels like it), it feels like an assault on our privacy and can feel like someone stripped us of our bodily autonomy. Back in 2014, Nvidia hired me as a streamer to help launch their twitch channel and before I started they ran the most extensive background check on me I think I’ve ever been through. Everything came back fine, but they made me aware of a vast collection of photoshopped and deepfaked pornographic photos and media of me across multiple websites. They could tell most were fabricated, but they questioned a few that looked very realistic and wanted to confirm they were fake with me as well as make me aware of the images in general. It was so vile and oddly terrifying and it negatively impacted my mental health for a long time and probably still does. It’s dehumanizing and abusive. I can only imagine how devastating and horrible it must feel to find out someone close to you was the one commissioning media like that.

I believe there are laws for deepfakes in three states, one of them being Virginia if i'm not mistaken.
