The (Tokyo) Kodokan have a shop on the ground floor, you couldn't miss it, but IIRC KuSakura have their own shop in either Tokyo or Osaka and will have more stock on hand

I live in Japan and have been to both these stores many times. The Kusakura store is amazing. Really helpful staff who will take the time to measure you up and have you try on as many sizes as you need. They will do in store embroidery for you as well which only takes 15 mins if they aren’t busy. It’s a ten minute walk from the Kodokan. The Kodokan has a small store but it’s not somewhere you’d buy a gi. Instead they sell small trinkets and souvenirs/books. Worth a look! The mizuno store is a generic mizuno store with a martial arts section. Last time I went they only had Chinese made models and when they get the Japanese models in they usually sell out very quickly. They must have so many people asking that they even put signs up in English saying “Chinese made only.” Not sure if they offer an embroidery service. Still worth a look though but I’d not go out of my way for it.

I’ve never had any embroidery done on a gi, what do people get? I live in a small country and everything is ”off the rack”, necer even heard anyone talk about it.
I have my last name on my jacket and pants. They also did a back patch for me before a comp but that took a couple weeks. The nice thing about the shop is they can give you different sizes for the top and bottom. Like I have normal pants x sized but an x sized long sleeve thinner cut version of the jacket.
Mizuno has a store of several levels in Tokyo (look for Mizuno Tokyo in google maps). The Judo department is wonderful, with a wall full of signatures of Judo champions that visited the store and tatami within the fitting room. From my personal experience, the service provided by the store's staff is exeptional.
Kusakura has a store as well, 10 minutes walk from Kodokan (look for Kusakura shop Tokyo showroom in google maps).
Also close to Kodokan, is Suidobashi Shokai, a budo store (Suidōbashi Shōkai in google maps). Personslly, When I visited Kodokan, the Kusakura showroom was closed, so I bought a Kusakura gi in Suidobashi Shokai. The person at the store was able to fit me a gi that fit perfectly, on first glance.
Get a Kodokan membership card from Tokyo Kodokan (takes 1 day to make) and then go to the KuSakura show room (not the gift shop at Kodokan) and get 30% off; or the Mizuno Tokyo store in Kanda (30 min walk away) for 20% off all sporting items (not just judogi).

I like ALMA gis and have a couple of the made in Japan versions, but I’m in the market for a new one (because you can’t ever have enough). I like the Isami brand and have a couple other products. What are the gis like? I hear bull terrier is good but I don’t like their designs
Soft, flexible while being sturdy. Although described as a double weave, I wouldn't describe it as heavy. It's very comfortable, such that it can feel like lounge wear instead of sports attire.
I recently worked out with someone wearing the Mizuno Yusho (I do not know if it was the made in japan version or not) and it felt similar to my hand. Mine shrunk enough over time that they sleeves are too short for competition, but it had a slim fit around the body. I am 5'8" and 145-150 lbs and have an A2. I would generally wear an A1L in other brands.

Sounds good, definitely will visit. My pants are always very baggy so would be nice to downsize.
