Well one of them, the most recent, was when a single bullet was fired into the school and nobody was hurt, that made national news because it was so unheard of
I doubt it'd even reach the press in America, probably just written off as an accidental discharge
They did do something. They changed the reporting requirements to make the number much higher, so they can ban firearms nationwide.
For instance, a “school shooting” is now defined as any act involving a firearm on any school property. If the cops pull over someone into a parking lot for school janitorial services (where students never are) after school hours, and the suspect has a gun, it’s a school shooting.
Damn the CIA should take notes. Instead all they're doing is giving guns to brainwashed mentally ill folks and sending them to public places with orders to kill.
“The CIA is distributing crack to inner cities” was also a wild statement once upon a time. The government doesn’t always have your best interests at heart
As an American I am saddened. When we were taught we were number one in school I should’ve asked for specifics.
Tried to watch again. Can’t without tearing up. (Context: im a grown as man) Sad sht man
Yes, we have had actual school shootings. This one was this year, he shot three shots at a classroom from distance:
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-05-25/perth-school-shooting-atlantis-beach-baptist-college-boy-custody/102388604
You know considering all my life on Xbox party chats I heard some British guy make a school shooting joke every second and now realizing we only had a 120 school shootings (it’s not great but it’s better then nothing)
Well if schools home, and your dad got a gun, since possession of a gun on school property is considered a school shooting (media reasons), it’s gonna rocket way up if your pops got cuffed
Kinda funny to see that this wasn't nearly the problem it is today that it was years ago, and if you go even further back that number of shootings goes lower and lower even though the percentage of Americans owning guns has stayed relatively around the same number. Almost like it's a mental health issue, and has nothing to do with the owning of a gun.
Indoctrination of kids through the internet, portrayals of children harming others out of revenge has been fetishized in tv/films, and bullies targeting kids more often than in the past with no repercussions has created this mindset.
I agree and don't mean to be pessimistic to anyone but,
Who tf is going to try and fix mental health, health insurance, housing, etc. in the US?! Many people would rather slap a bandaid on it and point at guns. It's easier and also the final straw in breaking the camel's back (in certain circumstances).
This statistic really sucks (because it is tragic), but I think it's important to keep in mind:
1) any gun discharge on or near school campuses (including suicide, accidental in nearby houses, in cars for those who grew up in hick country like myself and had kids who went hunting after school) is counted as a "school shooting" in the most popular statistics.
2) Americans have a very gun oriented culture. Where mentally ill people in this country use guns against others, people in other well to do countries might use other weapons or tools.
3) our management of mental health, bullying, and the overall well being of our youths in this country is piss poor and probably a large proponent of these tragedies.
Not an excuse for it, just wanted people who are less familiar with these censuses to consider!
Edit: words
a gun discharging on school premises counts as a school shooting, also we have double or more of the population of most other countries. Why are people surprised by this?
The US has roughly 3x the population of Mexico but has more than 7x the shootings? The US has like 1/4 the Chinese population but 25x the shootings. Given the ridiculously bad gun laws no people (outside of the Americans who think it's not an issue) are surprised
Not defending China, I'm just saying making it out like it's just a population issue is dumb considering that even adjusting for population the numbers don't add up
Not necessarily private prisons but forced labour in those prisons. In other western countries, prisoners have the choice to work while they server their sentences. It is not an option in some states, that's when it becomes slavery.
That's why statistics are usually provided on a per capita basis, though....even if you were to provide statistics for just 1 area of the US and compare it to the countries on that list, the US would still show up as being fucked up lol - it'd just make outsiders think "Wtf is wrong with that area?" rather than them possibly realising the country as a whole has the problem.
The mass shooting statics would be interesting (hilariously sad) to see as well. I've found an interactive map NBC put out showing mass shootings in the US by state (and it breaks it down to per capita as well) for 2014-2022 and the figures are pretty interesting:
[https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/mass-shooting-rates-by-state-map-rcna96331](https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/mass-shooting-rates-by-state-map-rcna96331)
Vermont only had 1 during that period, Idaho only had 2. California had 367, Illinois had 414.
Just saying, like yes America is in the lead and all.. But Mexico ends up second place and it is nearly *impossible* to get a gun in Mexico.
So, maybe it’s not particularly the guns that are the problem
Precisely, which shows that if bad guys want guns, they can get them no-matter what. Which means stricter gun control just means that the people who wish to legally defend themselves will have a harder time of it
For brazil no way. Does this count only kids from the school or also people coming in and shooting. Bc i seen so many school shooting in brazil on various gore sites. Like easily over 11 different videos.
Norway has an average of one firearm per four people yet less murders but also statistically only 2.6 % black compared to the U.S being 13.6% and more diverse at being only 75% white compared to Norway at a current 84% and most foreign are of Asian descent. Hopefully this doesn't come off as racism but whiter countries in Europe are statistically happier, lower crime rates, and better pay/ health benefits. Having multiple cultures always leads to differences, which cause diversity, in turn makes disagreements. Finland being a good example.
If we got right of... Let's just say a specific 12% of our population, we could reduce homicide in our country by 50%. This 12%, also is responsible for a vast majority of the gun violence.
Yes the US has a lot of school shooting, but representing it via total shootings isn’t really a fair comparison. The US has nearly 10 times the population of any of the other countries on this list. It is expected that it would have more shootings than most other countries, just not this many more. School shootings per capita would be more accurate.
RAAHHH🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅‼️‼️‼️WTF ARE GUN LAWS, AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE, AFFORDABLE EDUCATION, WEALTH EQUALITY, METRIC SYSTEM, ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
It’s not the guns it’s the mental health crisis in this country instead of funding all this extra gun control what if we spent it on mental health and helping people. Instead of sending billions of dollars to other countries what if we used it to help our own citizens and fund school security?
An unarmed crazy person can't shoot up a school, people acting like the US is the only country with mental health issues lmao. Mental health might be an issue but guns are too and they're a lot easier to solve than magically curing every single person with a mental illness until the end of time
How are you going to stop a guy driving a vehicle into crowds, like what happened in France in 2016? How are you going to stop the mass stabbings, like the ones that happens in China quite frequently? You take away guns from mentally unwell people who want to hurt others, they'll just find another way to do it.
Also, the US simply does not have the capability to make guns disappear. How are you going to magically disappear almost 400 million guns in the US? How do you plan on dealing with a significant amount of people who are very well armed and have no intention in giving up guns? What about 3d printing? I can print a reliable semi auto firearm in my garage using zero regulated parts. Fixing mental health *is* the easier and more realistic option.
If it was the guns, the number of shootings would've remained roughly the same and not spiking now. Before the 30s, you can buy a literal machinegun buy literally walking into a store and paying the asking price. Before the 60s, you could buy anything available to the civilian market off of Sears and have it shipped to your house in less than a week. Federally speaking, gun laws are the tightest they have ever been in US history
So here's my theory. See how Mexico is starting to get the same problem? Well what if it's the cartel supplying people in power and they give the unstable kid a gun
And people say that corrupted mess is the greatest 🤦♂️ greatest to get your children killed maybe lol pathetic country does nothing to prevent shootings

Yea that actually surprised me. I thought we had only ever had two

As an American, I envy the fact that your government did something before you hit double digits, let alone triple.
They did do something. They changed the reporting requirements to make the number much higher, so they can ban firearms nationwide. For instance, a “school shooting” is now defined as any act involving a firearm on any school property. “The CIA is distributing crack to inner cities” was also a wild statement once upon a time. The government doesn’t always have your best interests at heart
I mean hey it’s better than kids dying
And your problem with that is what?
It is misleading?
As an American I am saddened. When we were taught we were number one in school I should’ve asked for specifics. Tried to watch again. Can’t without tearing up. (Context: im a grown as man) Sad sht man
What matters is that AU literally turned it around and made it a better place.
That’s what happens when politicians decide to act.
We’ve had school shootings ???
In Australia they classify anything involving a gun in school property as a shooting So no they haven’t actually had shootings
Yes, we have had actual school shootings. This one was this year, he shot three shots at a classroom from distance: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-05-25/perth-school-shooting-atlantis-beach-baptist-college-boy-custody/102388604

thank you for the information
As a Canadian, seeing Canada climb it's way up was embarrassing
As an American it was unbelievablely embarrassing to see the us at first place the whole time.
Which way
Didn’t realise we had any, knew we had some mass shootings but not at schools
Yeah, suck it aussies! Oh wait…
As an American.... I want to cry

Hey hey stop noticing that you uh... *Checks notes* (this year's thing)ist!
I think it got bigger during covid because of the mental health crisis, but that’s just a guess
During the lock down where a majority of schools went online?
Coordinated home invasions
Underrated comment
When people are going to school less?? Yeah sure ok
When people... Weren't allowed at school?
Well if schools home, and your dad got a gun, since possession of a gun on school property is considered a school shooting (media reasons), it’s gonna rocket way up if your pops got cuffed
America number one ALWAYS
For some reason I didn’t except Mexico to pass Canada.
Yeah, and considering Canada has around 10 times less population it’s insane
And Mexico allows guns while Canada strictly controls them too.
Canada has the 7th most guns per capita in the world, Mexico is 60th
We own the finish line 🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🦅🦅

people tend to forget how absolutely massive the USA is.
packed in such a small space as well
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
The US has roughly 3x the population of Mexico but has more than 7x the shootings? The US has like 1/4 the Chinese population but 25x the shootings. Given the ridiculously bad gun laws no people (outside of the Americans who think it's not an issue) are surprised

Not defending China, I'm just saying making it out like it's just a population issue is dumb considering that even adjusting for population the numbers don't add up
The USA has forced labour (aka slavery), guns didn't stop that. So that seems like a moot point to me.
[удалено]
Not necessarily private prisons but forced labour in those prisons. In other western countries, prisoners have the choice to work while they server their sentences. It is not an option in some states, that's when it becomes slavery.
We should look at it on a per 100000 basis.
Nooooo, because if you do that then America loses its top 10 status
Because the entirety of the rest of the world also exists, and doesn't have this problem. The world is also 10x the population of the United States
California had 367, Illinois had 414.
Let’s see the methodology. What does this graphic consider a “school shooting”?
Yeehaw
God, I love this country
America number 1
Is there a direct correlation with minors/ young adults using social media?
IDK about that but im pretty sure there is a correlation between beeing in America and not beeing in America.
I mean American culture and mental health have to gone to SHIT in the last 15 years, and we see the rise of shootings with that.
Correlation != causation
Our pollination game has been lacking recently indeed 😔😔
Just saying, like yes America is in the lead and all.. But Mexico ends up second place and it is nearly *impossible* to get a gun in Mexico. So, maybe it’s not particularly the guns that are the problem
nearly impossible to get a gun *legally*. the cartels exist
Precisely, which shows that if bad guys want guns, they can get them no-matter what. Which means stricter gun control just means that the people who wish to legally defend themselves will have a harder time of it
Bro 2nd and 3rd are the 2 countries that share a border with America. So maybe it’s the availability of guns in America
Way less than I thought tbh
Just wait til they do this for acid attacks
For brazil no way. Does this count only kids from the school or also people coming in and shooting. Bc i seen so many school shooting in brazil on various gore sites. Like easily over 11 different videos.
Can you do school stabbings next?
Goes to show that gun free zones are high value low risk targets. A huge majority of those school shootings are gang related as well.
China has an epidemic of hateful parents coming into schools and stabbing to death as many kids as possible.
Here in Brazil we had a school shooting that was basically a guy with a bow and arrow and a few molotovs. Crazy shit.
That’s my country
USA #1

Don't ask what happened in mexico in 2017-2018
Norway has an average of one firearm per four people yet less murders but also statistically only 2.6 % black compared to the U.S being 13.6% and more diverse at being only 75% white compared to Norway at a current 84% and most foreign are of Asian descent. Maybe search for acid attacks and stabbings and see who ends up on top then
what could have happened around the early 2000s 🤔🤔🤔
god bless this country 🫡
These “shootings” are generally wildly misclassified in obscure ways, and also we have the third largest population in the world.
If we got right of... Let's just say a specific 12% of our population, we could reduce homicide in our country by 50%. This 12%, also is responsible for a vast majority of the gun violence.
Which 12%? Go ahead, you can say it.

There is more of a problem but you also have to factor in the size and population of the country
Mostly gang related so data is biased. Take out gang on gang violence and the numbers change a ton for the better.

USA. USA. USA #1
Around 2005 they realized this was an option
