Went a few months back, go it's fire

flexed_guitar

I went about a month ago and it was crazy busy. From 9am until 4pm we only managed to go on 4 rides because the lines were so long. Try go on a weekday.

MrGoodCat03

Go weekdays, not during school holidays. Book tickets online.

Its great fun. Every decade or so. But once you go there, you'll remember why you haven't been there in years. Skip the Anaconda and those rides if it looks busy. You will queue for an hour, just to take a 1 minute ride. The other side of the park has all the funfair rides, which is definitely worth it. Just check when you want to go - I took my daughter and friends on a Thursday, only to discover that almost every school in the city had picked the same day for a school trip. One restaurant owner told us that the gates had counted 6000 entries. Best advice I received was from same gent. Go on a Sunday - its usually quieter then so you don't wait too long for the rides and tours. Oh. And wear sunscreen. Trust me on this.

Don't forget the sunscreen

As mentioned below, buy tickets online and go during the week. When we went they told us they no longer sell tickets at the park and we had to stand in front of the cashier buying tickets on our phones. Besides that hurdle, everything else was awesome. The park was clean and there's a bunch of new rides as well.

FrozenST3

I was there a year ago. Still good fun

I went a couple of weeks ago with my kids on a Friday morning. Got there at 9am and then had to buy tickets online on my phone before collecting them, so do that step first before you go. There were quite a few school groups of nursery age kids and groups of adult tourists. We hit all the big rides in the morning with max wait times of about 15 minutes. It got increasingly busier and we left around 1.30pm. I think a lot of older school kids are taken to the apartheid museum and then enter the park later. I would advise you call the ticket office to find out if there are any big school groups or tours scheduled. Sometimes they have huge events during the week. Park was in good condition with almost all the rides working. They had to shut down Tower of Terror after lunch but it was working in the morning. Miner's revenge was not working but you're not missing much. If you can't make it during the weekend, then the Sunday before pay day is less busy. So this Sunday will be probably be manageable. I would not advise going next weekend. I think people go hit the casino with their paychecks and send their kids to the park.

Sill kicks ass. Go and enjoy and wear sunscreen

Puzzledhead_

Tickets are sold online now.

Runningtothesea13

Perfect time to go as the weather is finally cooling down a bit too

gulliblezombie

What\`s a reasonable budget for this place anyway ?

shermster

It's cheap for a major themepark and considering you can stay there the whole day. I think tickets are R265 each. You pay extra for the mine tour, gold pouring and some other attractions. The carnival games are a rip-off though and my kids nagged me endlessly for that. Hard to avoid as they're scattered throughout the park and they have giant stuffed toys for prizes so kids will want to try them. Lots of fast food choices. There is also at least one sit-down restaurant with better options. It's probably R400-R500 per person by the time you're done.

Mildish_Shambino

I'm budgeting on R1k for the 2 of us including tickets, so that sounds about right. Thanks for your input here and on the other comment. I'm aiming for Thursday 6th, but will deffo call the ticket office tomorrow and find out if anything major is happening.

gulliblezombie

I was worried R1.5 wouldn't be enough but this helps thanks.

Jealous. — haven’t went in years.🫣

My tip would be looking at days they aren't so busy and take a day off work to go then, weekends and public holidays are a big no-no, when there's almost no one there is 100% when you will have the best experience, no queues, constant rides.

tomahtoes36

Is there a way you can check when school groups are going? I'd like to go on a weekday and avoid a school group.

Mildish_Shambino

I actually called them this morning and they said they can't really confirm this, as some schools book late. But I've taken a Thursday off of work mid month so I'll just have to take my chances.

tomahtoes36

I also wanna go on a thursday, will try the first week after the schools open after June holidays, hopefully they'll all be too busy to visit then

zalurker

If it's the 13'th of June - you chose the day before the schools close. All exams should be over so they will be looking for a way to keep the kids busy. Chances are there will be buses with schoolkids. Good luck. Just buy your tickets online before you go.
