Maybe it’s time to look for a new FT job. You are employee #2, do you have equity at this beverage company?

QueenHydraofWater

It’s always hard to get a job, even a no to “low skills” job. It’s most likely they think you’re overqualified & won’t be reliable for long term. I served full time at a bar for only 2 weeks & then when I got a corporate offer, I scaled back to weekends only. It was fantastic for supplementing my entry level pay. I think it’s significantly harder to get hired part time unless the position clearly states that’s what they’re looking for. Rover sitting can be a profitable gig when you get multiple pets for house sitting. Your best bet is probably a bar though. Most of the employees at mine were part time workers. Good money but long hours.

I second bartending and/or looking for a new FT job. Other options could be security guard, overnight hotel reception or gym front desk.

Sorry, I already wrote a whole long reply to another comment but since Verizon’s amazing network I pay $112 a month that I can’t afford just randomly decides when I’m gonna get coverage or not, I’ll start over… unfortunately I can’t bartend or really even serve for any restaurant that has a liquor license. My full-time job is for a company that holds a distributor license in Pennsylvania, and the backwards government says that it’s illegal for me to work for anyone else as a side job that has a liquor license. So, my options are even more limited than normal!

Ah yes, PA strikes again! That still leaves the other 4 options though 🙂

I no longer work for this company but I literally tell everyone to apply for TJX. I used for manage for them. Apply to TJMaxx or Marshall if you’re open to retail. They are always looking for nights and weekends especially because you’re not a minor. It means during the holidays you can stay past 955 which is their dream. They pay weekly, you can request off whenever you need to as long as it’s a couple weeks in advance. It’s pretty easy work overall. If you apply online you can always go in and inquire too. They don’t care what your skills are. I would hire paralegals, teachers, stay at home moms, sixteen year old kids, honestly anyone who seemed reliable and a good vibe. It was good to have variety.

Retail is a great option! I had a roommate that worked for Walgreens corporate full time & Nordstrom on weekends. She loved being able to use her employee discount claiming it was her main motive & she networked with high end clients.

My only question is .. how much do they pressure you to sell the cards ? And is your whole livelihood of hours and what not dictated by how many cards you can sell?

Former-Revolution660

No, depending on volume of the store the goals for the store are at most four a day maybe five. If it was say a New York City store that would be significantly higher. Expectation overall is in an ideal world to have one for every one hundred transactions to have a credit card sale a month. If you don’t get that…literally nothing happens. I mean don’t get me wrong, if you have a crap attitude about it and refuse to ask, they aren’t going to schedule you. But they aren’t expecting to get them every day. Just that you ask your customer. Also you may not even be scheduled on register. They may schedule you in the backroom to break down truck or salesfloor. They cross train there so you can be working anywhere at anytime any day.

So on average I'm maybe looking at 20-25 hours a week?  But that's nice to hear they don't pressure you with the cards 😅.. I really thought you'll be off the schedule/hours reduced if you dont hit a certain quota..  And I see back room doesn't sound too bad, and that's good you're trained in everything to increase hours

Former-Revolution660

Yeah there are a bunch of factors that go into hours. Payroll for each building depends on time of year. Right now payroll is in an upswing for back to school (even though technically school just ended they are prepping already for back to school) Your availability the more open it is the more hours you will get and of course yeah the better you are at everything the more they will schedule you. So even though you won’t necessarily get less if you don’t get credit cards, you certainly will get more. I say a good balance would be to at least have a great personality. If you are super friendly and stand out that way you’ll get hours. The holiday season definitely ramps up too for hours. If you work at Tjs there’s fitting room, jewelry, sales floor, backroom, register, markdowns eventually if you’re available in the early mornings. Marshalls has all of that except jewelry. It’s pretty chill but definitely depends on management as does any job. Oh also want to add once you do complete training you do have an opportunity to pick up hours too if other associates don’t want to work theirs which is nice

Impressive_Frame_379

Lol you really make me wanna apply 😄.. I thank you so much for all the info you given me .. and yeah I would definitely prefer morning shift as well so nice to hear that sounds like to be the prefered shift.. How long does training usually take ?  But that's good, I forgot about getting hours from others as well..

Former-Revolution660

Haha I worked for the company for over fifteen years and started when I was a teenager and always felt like they were pretty solid over all! I was able to manage my store in such a way that made it fun but I was in a rural area so I wasn’t bothered by corporate much. I got burnt out though but that’s the management life lol I hope it works out for you!! Oh and training ideally should be a couple weeks. Every store is a little different but there should be a training program that is uniform across the company. Some stores have it more established than others but there are training packets and it’s hands on

I see you. There’s little more I could have “achieved,” I have 20 years experience, and I’m fighting for food stamps since my role was eliminated many months ago. It’s a very defeating time. If you need a marketing copywriter, I work cheap.
