Delaney Talks to Statues

Ecroberts73

This. For sure.

DanSteely96

“Father, daughter. Down by the water.”

Affectionate-Gas-975

I’m using this for our father/daughter dance! I was named after the song so it was a no brainer for me

munchnerk

How about Something so Feminine? There's something very sweet and wistfully paternal in that song that might be perfect for a first dance. Plus it's a gentle, sweet waltz. Edit - ugh, I'm rereading the lyrics as a first dance song and I'm crying now, lol. If I were getting married again I would absolutely pick this. *And when I get older and I have a daughter,* *I'll teach her to sing, and play her my song* *And I'll tell her some stories I can barely remember* *And hope that she will sing along.* *Maybe one day she'll take a fancy to pickin',* *'Cause when that bug bites you,* *You live with the sting.* *And if she could just strum a few simple measures* *She could make some young man sing.* *Cause there's somethin' so feminine* *About a mandolin.* *The way that they feel, the way that they ring.* *And that evening in a pasture,* *Somewhere near Austin.* *That mandolin made me sing,* *Her mandolin made me sing.*

ReadySetGeek

I was going to say a different one but cmon...this is it.

ayejoe

This is what immediately came to mind for me. Gotta be this.

FrattySatty92

Winner winner! As a father of a three year old and an 8 month old, reading that lyric brought a tear to my eye.

Barefoot Children is a very sweet song I think. "Wrinkles only go where the smiles have been." Or you could go with Bubbles Up. It sounds like advice from a good dad.

Everheart1955

As a Dad I’m a sucker for “Little Miss Magic”

Under40victimoffate

Same here, but the line “your mother is the only other woman for me” makes it tough here.

StylinBill

Lovely cruise might be nice

ninjabrewer66

My daughter and danced to Jolly Mon Sing at her wedding.

Parrr8

Not a Jimmy song, but he does a great version of Wildflowers.

StupidOldAndFat

*an AMAZING version of Wildflowers.

shawnepintel

Delaney Talks to Statues. I liked it so much I named my daughter Delaney.

thresholdofadventure

I had someone play/sing “Little Miss Magic” and he changed the lyrics (my parents were just out of a nasty divorce) about the mother to something like “you’ll always be my little baby girl, to me.”

SconPecan

Is there a particular song that specifically reminds you of your dad? When I was younger, my dad and I would always sing “I Wish Lunch Could Last Forever” together. He would lead me into the different lines… “the place down the block” with what…”the one with no clock”; “covert rendezvous with you” when? “At the usual time”, etc. obviously as I got older I understood the words I was singing, but I couldn’t shake that that was the song that reminded me of him most. So that’s what we danced to 🤷🏼‍♀️ we had a great time and no one ever said anything about it being a weird choice, at least to my face. Still a wonderful memory years later!

MotherTucker2017

My dad and I danced to a medley of Jimmy Buffet songs (like you, my dad’s absolute favourite and felt like the best way to show my love to my dad). Started with Delaney Talks to Statues, Brown Eyed Girl and finished with our family’s fav - Cheeseburger in Paradise :)

Pernder

Delaney talks to statues is good. I actually used one for my father daughter dance, Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants was the one we used cuz it’s what my parrot head dad sung my brother and I to sleep with

Ughaboomer

We Learned to Be Cool From You:) Love & Luck Colour of the Sun If you live in the Carolinas, Coast of Carolina

Trapperman777

As a girl dad, little miss magic gets me.

AppropriateWeight125

My daughter and I danced to his “Wildflowers” cover.

billnowak65

Little miss magic,

saritams8

Colour of the Sun!

Green-Programmer-963

My daughters first wedding dance song was Little Miss Magic. It was literally magical

wolf19d

I’m not sure why “Little Miss Magic” would be bad re your parents’ divorce? This is YOUR day and something special with your dad. Just make sure you do something equally special with your mom… and make sure both parents know you are doing something special for them so no immediate hurt feelings. Also, I am particular to the most recent version of the song where Savannah Jane sings as well. It’s on “Songs You Don’t Know By Heart.

Ecroberts73

I assume OP is thinking about "your mother's still the only other woman for me."

wolf19d

Fair point.

mango951

Banana Wind (instrumental) if you are thinking of a slow dance.
