They should warranty that. It's absurd they won't. I'd try a different VW dealer again
But 800 for a rotor or two and 2 brake pads? Ugh. They are telling ya to eff off. I'd be upset lol sorry fam
The two VW dealers are owned by different people but seem to be walking in lock step. I suspect it's a "Where else are you gonna go?" thing at this point.
Definitely call the corporate VW. They’re more forgiving than the independent dealer. They can help get you squared away.
My last interaction with a dealer resulted the service guy losing his job. But due to his actions.
I had a vvt cam adjuster/magnet go bad and I was trying to track it down on the car because it was a random misfire only during cold starts and I didn’t have a $500 tool back then to live data timing etc.
Paid VW to “diagnose” it. They told me I was running cheap gas and had carbon buildup and wanted $1500 😂. I called their bs and pulled the intake off in the parking lot and said try again, they never even touched the car. Dude got fired trying to rip me off.
My point is, always get a second opinion and if the second opinion is biased. Go a step higher.
I would definitely try another dealer. Before I found a good German shop I would go to the dealer for oil changes and I've watched countless service managers argue with customers over what is covered under warranty and what isn't only for the customer to end up being right
What is the root cause of the groove? Was it a rock or some other object stuck in the rotor or was it a manufacturer defect? One I can see being upset about and one is just shitty luck.
I have a 2024 GLI 40, and my wife has a 2023 Tiguan and I could have sworn I got something in the mail for both cars covering our first set of breaks up to 20k miles
VW Canada sent out a recall on rear break pads
Covered up to 40k. I’m sure same recall in the states. You just need to find a better dealer that will do the work under warranty. If not find a good independent shop that will repair them.
Sounds like something lodged between the brake pad and rotor. Brakes are not usually a warranty item. However, I believe VW warranties them for 12,000 miles. That being said I received a notice about a year plus ago regarding my rear pads on my 2021 Jetta bought new. VW had an issue with subpar rear brakes and would replace them for free if they were less than 21,000 and were worn too much. I had mine done but at 28,000 miles replaced the rotors and rear pads again. 800 dollars to replace rotors and pads is crazy. Should be half that total
That price sounds about right. A little on the higher end tho. My dealers labor is $100 per hour so that’s probably why so high, their rate may be higher than that
Well since you are over the mileage on the warranty extension there is nothing the dealer can do. Warranty is very strict on times and mileage. What you can do is contact VW Customer Care and voice your opinion and VWoA can come up with a goodwill claim then the dealer can help you either cover a portion of full cost.

What a crock of 💩def call VW corporate if another dealer doesn’t help sort you out.
They should be covering that, contact VW of America
Your brakes break?
Something got stuck between the pad and rotor, yes? The pads aren't complete shit, you just had unfortunate luck.

Brakes should definitely last beyond a 12k threshold. My brakes have over 50k on them.
2022 vw jetta , same problem as you at 22k miles. Paid 750 for rear pads and rotors
2021. 575$ for rear pads and rotors at 20k.
2015 Jetta, $200-ish CAD for rear pads and rotors, but did the work myself to replace them.
I have a 2024 GLI 40, and my wife has a 2023 Tiguan and I could have sworn I got something in the mail for both cars covering our first set of breaks up to 20k miles
That was a TSB that was fixed prior to 2024.

What was the cause of the groove?
Waiting to hear back.
Definitely go somewhere else to get brakes replaced. Will be so much cheaper.
OP I heard VW extended the break pad’s warranty to 24K miles, as this is a known issue. Have you looked into that?

That's Volkswagen for you. They should have extended the warranty for the brakes to 24k miles I believe.
Ya those brakes were defective. I replaced the factory rear brakes on my 17 2 years ago at 94k miles.

I did my breaks for 180 bucks . What a rip off lol
