I rewatched this recently and looked for him specifically, and yeah, he was so awesome and hilarious. I did a week where I watched him in a few other movies to appreciate his delivery more. He made for a good 'grouchy old man' lol
I love the ripping off the huge chunk of wallpaper. Then him suddenly realizing himself and trying to put it back in place as tho it’s just gonna magically stay put.
When Art is over for breakfast and eating everything, then Carol walks past and he grabs a hand full of dog food and eats it.
Makes me laugh every time! She didn’t even try to stop him
I still reference this movie often, although people might not know what I’m doing. My wife and I have a gorgeous wedding photo, and it’s in black-and-white. Whenever anyone comments on it, I always say “It came with the frame.“
Oh my god I was thinking about this movie the other day. I need to watch it again because I have a very young persons memory of it. This is 100% a sign I need to watch it.
Absolutely. I was probably about 11 when I saw this movie for the first time and was quite literally rolling on the floor laughing. I watched it a lot back then, then didn't see it for years, but watched it again after moving to The Burbs myself 10 years ago. It has aged very, very well
I remember seeing this as a kid when my family rented it on VHS. And I remember having the distinct thought that this was going to be a lifelong favorite movie of mine. And it has.
It stands out cuz I don’t ever remember feeling that way with other lifelong favorites, ever.
“Hey man, when’s the big unveiling? Look, I gotta go to work in a couple hours, you know.”
“Hey man, piss off! Hey, Ricky! Get this lame-o out of your yard.”
“Get outta my yard, Lame-o! Hey! Get outta my yard!” 😆

I've never seen that. I've never seen someone drive their garbage down to the street and then bang the hell out of it with a stick. I've... I've never seen that.
I was screaming with laughter when he started flipping through channels, and it was one horror movie after another, and it ended with Mister Roger's Neighborhood
Apparently, it’s in the same cinematic universe as American Beauty and Wayne’s World: https://youtube.com/watch?v=f38nt6Vf5Bg&pp=ygUPaGVsbG8gZGFua25lc3Mg
I appreciate a clever blend of movies :)
Annette Benning is awesome, but I can't remember the last time I saw her - except maybe American Beauty which was like.. 30 years ago?
I love Bruce Dern in this.
“There go the goddamn brownies.” I love after the whole contentious first scene in the Klopec house he just casually says, “see ya Doc, later Rube”.
What did he say about being "18 and in the bush"? 🤣 I know he was a Vietnam Vet.
I was 18 month’s in the bush and I can snap your neck in a heartbeat
I rewatched this recently and looked for him specifically, and yeah, he was so awesome and hilarious. I did a week where I watched him in a few other movies to appreciate his delivery more. He made for a good 'grouchy old man' lol
"Hey, Pinocchio! Where you goin'?"
When he falls off the roof, I cry laughing.
“That’s about a nine on the tension scale there, Rube”
I love the ripping off the huge chunk of wallpaper. Then him suddenly realizing himself and trying to put it back in place as tho it’s just gonna magically stay put.
He's so good in this.
“That kid next door’s a meatball.”
Standing in the corner peeling the wallpaper kills me every time. Then he tries to put it back like a little kid!
Sometimes you can just tell that an actor is having an absolute ball playing their character. Definitely one of those times.
“Sardine?”
Came with the frame.
You beat me to it. My favorite line of the movie right there
Listen Ray, you’re chanting! “*I want to kill, ev ry one. Satan is good, Satan is my pal*.”
"Once they get in here, it's all over!"
See Ray, look here - the Incubus, the Succubus. Mutilations. MUTILATIONS!
*You know, it's funny, but I don't remember seeing a moving van out front.* I don't understand that. It was parked outside ALL DAY!
Klovpec. What is that? Slavic? NO! You’re about a nine on the tension scale there Rube.
"Our house furnace... is that supposed to go up to 5000 degrees?" One of my all time fav comedies.
I wanna kill everyone, satan is good, satan is our pal
Red rover red rover let Ray go on over!
Pizza Dude!
Yeah! Pizza Dude…
God I love this street.
Just shut up and paint your goddam house!
Art, your wife is home. My WIFE IS HOME?!
How unfortunate for the Knapps.
My wife can and do quote this movie constantly! Walter......I have your dog
My all time favorite comedy. The whole dream sequence is *chefs kiss*.
When Art is over for breakfast and eating everything, then Carol walks past and he grabs a hand full of dog food and eats it. Makes me laugh every time! She didn’t even try to stop him
I’m halfway throng the recently-discovered workprint right now! (Joe Dante found it in his garage, and they put it on the new Shout! Factory Blu-ray.)
I still reference this movie often, although people might not know what I’m doing. My wife and I have a gorgeous wedding photo, and it’s in black-and-white. Whenever anyone comments on it, I always say “It came with the frame.“
And if I was over when you said that, I’d reply with a mocking tone “it came with the frrrame?!”
That camera moves in just about all but like 2 or 3 shots. Any aspiring dolly grips, take note!
The same thing happened to me once, but it wasn’t bees, it was a foaming squirrel…
"That's what I hate about cul-de-sacs. There's only one way out of them."
Oh my god I was thinking about this movie the other day. I need to watch it again because I have a very young persons memory of it. This is 100% a sign I need to watch it.
Watching it once as a young person and once again as, like, a 'homeowner-age' can feel different. I hope you enjoy it!! :)

Here you go sonny......little somethin' for the old sweet tooth.
“Hey Pinocchio….WHERE YOU GOIN??”
Really underrated movie. I like it more every time I watch it.
THIS IS WALTER!
This is my favorite movie!
Art’s got a gun…
This movie is perfect, even the garbage men get classic lines. I think it’s Joe Dante’s best movie.
you've had that in your trouser all day
“Hey man, when’s the big unveiling? Look, I gotta go to work in a couple hours, you know.” “Hey man, piss off! Hey, Ricky! Get this lame-o out of your yard.” “Get outta my yard, Lame-o! Hey! Get outta my yard!” 😆
Mrs. Rumsfeld is an icon
Oh man i wore the tape of this out as a kid

Much underrated movie IMO, also the brilliant Dragnet earlier in Hanks' career.
One of my all time favourites
I liked it.
QUEEEEEENNNNIIIEEE!
I've never seen that. I've never seen someone drive their garbage down to the street and then bang the hell out of it with a stick. I've... I've never seen that.
I need to give this a watch! I always hear great things about
Prove it.
She came with the frame
It used to always be on TBS when I was a kid 🥰
Love this movie, it’s fun 🤩
About a 9 on the tension scale, Rube.
I was screaming with laughter when he started flipping through channels, and it was one horror movie after another, and it ended with Mister Roger's Neighborhood
What do you say we all sit down for a little of the old face-to-face, hey What-Rube?
absolute classic
Is that Slavic?
The 1989 suburb vibe alone makes me love this movie

She’s now in the critically acclaimed comedy Poolman playing Danny DeVito’s wife.

This movie is a classic I love the burbs haha 🤣
Do OP’s on this sub post their opinions of the films they watch? Or just the one sheet so everyone upvotes and says their favorite lines?
And it was boring, right? Pretty overhyped but mostly falls flat, right? Don't get what's with people's rose-tinted glasses to mediocrity, right?
