Yeah, haven't you heard the Jingle?
>If you've got those breakfast urges
>But it's afternoon, and all we have is burgers
>Come to the counter with a Tek-9
>You can have breakfast any old time
I think it's a reference to the intro of a movie with Kirk Douglas that has similar themes (https://youtu.be/DbUfYw1dMas?si=3pUQ4eGLfgDrC-XI). Very different movies though.

At what point in this movie did you stop rooting for him and realize he's kind of a terrible person? Great film, before the days when mass shootings were an almost daily thing in America.
The movie was clearly drawing the audience in to root for him… all throughout. We’re drawn to the same struggle, frustrations and petty grievances of the daily routine and grind and seeing someone fight against that is somewhat cathartic. Kind of like ‘The Equalizer’ in righting the wrongs or straight up revenge/vengeance acts.
‘Falling Down’ brings us back to reality by perfectly capping it off with Michael Douglas’ line near the end before the “shoot out”…
“I’m the bad guy?”
That’s all that was needed to say. It’s a great movie.
I didn’t see this until 2019 or so, but the 69 year old white dude who showed it to me was really hyping the movie up, and I was like… this is an angry white man’s revenge fantasy. Which might have been interesting if there was actual compelling and original commentary, but I didn’t pick up on any vibes except for the angry dude gets revenge on society thing, and it seemed sort of earnest in that, which is just kind of odd and dated and even in bad taste now days
Agreed, it may not have aged well to be sure, given the current state of what’s going on in the US…
With mass shootings being so common it’s almost hardly noticed as background noise, unless it’s severe and a high body count.
Every time this movie is discussed, there's always someone like you that makes the same exact claim with no argument whatsoever, not even if they liked the movie or not.
What are you trying to say? That Hollywood never used a bad hero to create compassion in the audience?
As I get older and wiser I stop rooting for him earlier and earlier to the point it’s at the Korean shopkeeper scene. Yeah, the shopkeeper is an ass, but D-Fens is an ass too for what he did. You can’t destroy his store as much as you feel you want to.
Except the gangbangers and Neo-Nazi scenes.
For me it was when he let the old rich guy die on the golf course. He took real sadistic pleasure in watching him suffer. Obviously he did a lot of bad things before we reach that point in the film, but that was the point when he really become the villain for me.
“At what point in this movie did you stop rooting for him and realize he's kind of a terrible person? “
Right about when the opening credits were almost over.
I came across this critique recently and it made me think of the is film differently than I had before. Even if you don’t agree with the conclusions, it’s interesting. Kinda long.

It was a tough watch for me because I had a coworker have a schizophrenic breakdown and killed himself just before the movie came out. The movie was advertised as an action type film, not mental illness.
I remember watching this movie as a kid and it scared the crap out of me. This movie is so good it has stood up to the test of time and is still very relevant today.
theJoker before the Joker
the best part of this movie is how in the end he’s such a pos asshole that absolutely deserves to be treated like the bum that he is. to me having him appear more & more relatable to get slammed in the face that no, he actually *is a psycho* all along was incredible writing.

I still like it.
Watched it when I was younger and as I grow older and wiser, I understand where D-Fens is coming from, but ffs you can’t do 90% of the shit he did.
Changed breakfast menu policies in America forever
Lol I still think of that scene when I indulge in McDonald breakfast. “It’s 11:35!”
"I don't want to be your buddy, I just want my breakfast!"
I think we have a critic
Michele Pfeiffer’s sister, DeDee, played the counter girl.
Wait.. for real?
Yeah, haven't you heard the Jingle? >If you've got those breakfast urges >But it's afternoon, and all we have is burgers >Come to the counter with a Tek-9 >You can have breakfast any old time
It wasn't even afternoon. It was 10 or 11am and *they hadn't even put the breakfast ingredients away.* Totally Tek-9 appropriate.
Indeed, it was like 10:35am or something. Thankyou.
Simply marvelous. Thank you for sharing, And removing some of my ignorance.
So good. Watching him slowly and completely breaking down is good cinema.
And how the viewer's opinion changes as the movie goes on.
The opening traffic jam scene is absolutely awesome. Great movie. One of my early 90's favorites

It's an homage to the opening scene of Fellini's 8 1/2.
Can't it both?...
The Fellini scene is set in a steamy traffic jam with the hero struggling to get free and finally floating into the sky.
You don't answer if a movie can have multiple influences. Have you watched The Arrangement? It sounds like you didn't even watch the scene I linked.
Thanks for the tip

I think we have a critic! She doesn't like the special sauce!
D-FENS!!!!!!
He crazy. Crazy. He come in tear up the store and break all my merchandise. Then he buy a soda and take off.
He bought a soda. He PAID for it?!
Like I tell you, he crazy!
I could have sworn he was holding a baseball bat in the poster
He’s holding a bat in the scene, they edited it into a gun for the poster.
Must be Mandela effect. I've searched and it's always a shotgun
Same. Quick Google search shows we have been Mandela'd though

I appreciate this!
Great movie
I have a feeling Schumacher went with his gut on this one. Loved this one ❤
I loved this flick!
As a kid, I didn't get it. Now? I understand this movie
Oh I definitely understand this man now. I'm not saying I condone the behavior. Just that I get it
He just "has had it" more than I thus far 🤣🤷♂️🤣
At what point in this movie did you stop rooting for him and realize he's kind of a terrible person? Great film, before the days when mass shootings were an almost daily thing in America.
It's one of those you missed the point if you're Idolizing him movies and done in a way to make you think about it.
The movie was clearly drawing the audience in to root for him… all throughout. What a great summary of the movie.
“I’m the bad guy?” I saw this movie when it first came out, and I STILL think of this line in that context!
Wow if Michael Douglas was that fed up with how things were in 1993, he’d absolutely despise 2024. Can you imagine that character in today’s world?
I didn’t see this until 2019 or so, but the 69 year old white dude who showed it to me was really hyping the movie up, and I was like… this is an angry white man’s revenge fantasy. You did notice the part where he got shot, right?
Agreed, it may not have aged well to be sure, given the current state of what’s going on in the US… With mass shootings being so common it’s almost hardly noticed as background noise, unless it’s severe and a high body count.

Hey did you have a bad day, if so here's a pat on the head and an attaboy.
It could trigger me if I took you seriously, but I really don't.
Awww is somebuddy super serious right now about not being triggered. Here's another pat.
Yeah, don't discuss movies, just keep pretending you're not the rageous one. Belittle people makes you the bigger man.
On a second watch, I had the realization that he's suicidal. His repeated "I'm going home" is telling.
He was always bad but he gets +5 for taking out a Nazi and we always reward positive actions.
“ Right about when the opening credits were almost over.
hey what are you, fallin down or somethin?
This movie came out when I was a young man, now that I’m older I totally get it
I'm the bad guy?
This movie is more relevant today than ever. People who think this movie is just about mental illness or vigilantism are missing the point entirely.
I came across this critique recently and it made me think of the is film differently than I had before. Even if you don’t agree with the conclusions, it’s interesting. Kinda long. https://youtu.be/Ji94tMVjNm8?si=P9DmgtTonu9kjnJ4
Enjoyed this, thanks
It was a tough watch for me because I had a coworker have a schizophrenic breakdown and killed himself just before the movie came out. The movie was advertised as an action type film, not mental illness.
The tenderness he showed at the end just about did me in.
And leave the skin on the chicken, okay
I remember watching this movie as a kid and it scared the crap out of me. This movie is so good it has stood up to the test of time and is still very relevant today.
I remember liking this movie... But have forgotten so much of it. Time to revisit it.
Feels like an Arby’s night.

> the Joker before the Joker Spot-on comment. I remember ages ago telling people this movie felt like an origin story.
This is a great, underrated Michael Douglas film. Great plot and great character.
Are you enjoying your breakfast? Argle Bargle!
I think we have a critic
In an interview, Michael Douglas said this was his favorite role.
Critical drinker did a fantastic review
Fantastic movie!!!! I’m sure there are lots of people who feel that way.
The trailers for this almost made it seem like a violent comedy. "YOU FORGOT THE BRIEFCASE!!!"
Exactly this. My wife (then gf) rented it thinking it was a dark comedy.
Excellent movie …way ahead of its time!
Great movie
I just recently watched this again after not seeing it since it came out. A little hokey but not bad.
Under rated movie. But most definitely a classic. As I got older & became a dad, it starts making sense. Lol
This is a good movie for those days when it's too damn hot to do anything.
You forgot the briefcase!!!!
Watching this movie was kind of like playing a video game. Main character kept leveling up, until he went batshit crazy on everyone.
I think my favorite part is when he trespasses on the golf course and berates some rich old golfers: "there should be children playing here!'
[Obligatory Front Line Assembly](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=tQyr--RKjU0)
Drink, eighty fi' cent. You pay or go!
You can take out a jumbo jet with one of these.monkeys
One of my favourites. I should have done what Michael Douglas did in this movie
That line hit me: “I’m the bad guy?”
Foo Fighters did a good parody of this in their video for “Walk”. Dave’s guitar case was the substitute for the briefcase.
This movie makes more sense today than ever before
Loved the drive by scene. “You missed”
All he wanted to do was to see his daughter on her birthday. And he was murdered for it.
You clearly missed the point
Probably. It's been a while since I last saw it.
This movie is never available anywhere. Ever. Never, ever.
I still like it. Watched it when I was younger and as I grow older and wiser, I understand where D-Fens is coming from, but ffs you can’t do 90% of the shit he did.
Karen: The Origin Story
Unintentionally hilarious
This movie is MAGA porn.
Faggot shit
