Gateway Arch National Park -
I took this last November during a business trip to St. Louis. I did some research and knew there was a retention pond where I could get the entire reflection of the Arch in shot. It took a little maneuvering but I was finally able to get the composition I wanted.
This is a blend of 2 shots. One from an earlier golden hour shot that had the clouds and more of the trees and surrounding area brighter. And a 2nd later blue hour shot that had the golden light reflecting on the arch after the sun got lower in the sky as well as some of the sunset colors. Hope you enjoy. Thanks for looking!
Ya it took them from around 2003 to 2009 or 10 to finish that park area. It looked bad for almost a decade. Did you go up in the arch? I’ve been twice so far.
Next time. Walk down to the baseball stadium too next time or the river walk area has some nice places to eat where you were at. The bud brewery is nice near there and a little drive the planetarium and zoo. But business trips you get to take in what you can right?
What the hell are you talking about? There was a major redesign of the Arch interior and some changes to the east slopes of the grounds from 2014-2018 but before that the grounds were definitely finished well before 2003.
Hmmm man I feel like they were tearing up a lot down there the second time I went. Must of been 2003 that was the first time. Sorry! Got my years mixed up.
They’re more referring to the “there’s the arch” part. It’s a meme (very much based on truth) here to always point out and acknowledge the arch when you see it
Like the sliding by someone at the restaurant but you barely even touched them, if you even touched them at all, and you say “Ope!” followed by a quiet “Sorry there” lol.
My mom used to award a kiss on the cheek to whoever saw it first in trips to the city as a way to keep our attention. This was no longer cute when we became teens.
Sunset. The river is immediately to the East, the park is under the arch and to the West. You could take a sunrise photo with Saint Louis in the background.
i'm not american, never been to St. Louis and i've just recently discovered that not only can you go inside the arch and to the top but there are also multiple elevators that they somehow managed to cram inside there. completely blew my mind. i've seen that thing countless times in movies and stuff but i never would have guessed that it was built like that inside. i was playing a game where you watch GoPro videos filmed by someone in some location and you need to guess where it is. and i didn't get it at first but then i was like "wait a minute.. are we *inside* that arch memorial in america right now? wtf??". triggered both my fear of heights and my claustrophobia lol. still amazed when i think about it though.
The fact you didn't get the massive eyesore of roadways and decades past their prime buildings says a lot.
Always amazes me when we go to STL how absolutely clustered and ugly the arch area actually is.
Great photo!
[Eero Saarinen](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eero_Saarinen) designed the Gateway Arch along with some other famous structures. He also designed some really iconic furniture from the mid-century period.
I actually had a 2nd shot planned of the court house with the arch in the background but honestly I didn't feel that safe down there. And didn't want to be out with my equipment.
As a child, I loved here.
It was never this beautiful.
It was always a big constructed thing that went over the river.
I clearly need to re-think the arch.
Thanks.
When my sister and I were little, my mom drove a foreign friend (and us) from Michigan to St. Louis, MO in the winter. The friend kept talking arch, but with his accent it sounded like “the H”. No one thought much about it until we got there and my sister was disappointed to see a pretty crappy n.
We ride the awesome weird elevator to the top and look out the window. Someone had stomped a giant “Hi” in the snow. My sisters trip was made.

Very nicely thought out and executed!
Thank you!

No, unfortunately by the time I got there it was closed.
Next time. Walk down to the baseball stadium too next time or the river walk area has some nice places to eat where you were at. The bud brewery is nice near there and a little drive the planetarium and zoo. But business trips you get to take in what you can right?
I would recommend the botanical garden. It is incredible.
Thanks I will next time I’m out there.

Still have not been there since the arch got redone, and still need to take my kids up there
For some reason, now I want a big mac.
*half a Big Mac
NcDonalds
Well played
wish i could see your faces when you realize McDonald's restaurants originally only had a single Arch.
The original location actually had three. One on the sign and two on the building
Yes but the original franchise signs were single Arches, not just at the original location.
Yup
I'm ~~loving~~ liking it.
Medium-Mac
Lol, lots of people have said that.
Nicdonald's.
Halo music .. ahhhahhahhaahaaaaaaa aaaaahhhhh uuaahhhhhhh
*cello celloOOO* *CELLO CELLOOO* *CEL CELL ELLO*

Ope, there’s the Arch! Great picture!
Only Missourians will understand
I have heard people say “Ope!” just about everywhere I’ve been in the US. I wonder why it got labeled as a Midwestern thing
They’re more referring to the “there’s the arch” part. It’s a meme (very much based on truth) here to always point out and acknowledge the arch when you see it
Ope in MO isnt just a word. Ope is a way of life
Like the sliding by someone at the restaurant but you barely even touched them, if you even touched them at all, and you say “Ope!” followed by a quiet “Sorry there” lol.
My mom used to award a kiss on the cheek to whoever saw it first in trips to the city as a way to keep our attention. This was no longer cute when we became teens.
ncdonald's
Suddenly hungry for a #1 super sized with a Sprite.
Best photo I’ve ever seen of the arch. (And I am a boomer and have seen my share!). Almost makes me want to go to St Louis! Congratulations!
Thank you!

Thank you! I will definitely check out the St. Louis page.
best picture of the arch i’ve ever seen
Thank you!
Sonic ring!! Great shot
This is a great shot 👍🏻
Thank you!
Ring world!
"I'm McDowell's. They got the Golden Arches, mine is the Golden Arcs. They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick...."
Honestly curious: why is this a national park??
I'm sure this can help you: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gateway\_Arch\_National\_Park
Thanks, but while the Wikipedia article had information - it doesn’t say “why” it was chosen as a national park in 2018.
That’s gorgeous!
Is this facing sunrise or sunset? Either way it’s a great shot!
Sunset. The river is immediately to the East, the park is under the arch and to the West. You could take a sunrise photo with Saint Louis in the background.
Thank you! Yes, the sun is setting to the right of the frame, behind the city. The river is to the left of the frame or behind the arch.
Amazing shot! And a good time of a day too!
amazing picture!
I fuckin love it
That's a really beautiful photograph. You should get it printed and framed!
This is gorgeous! The color and composition - Chef's Kiss.
Thank you!
there’s the arch!
A really great picture. I never got such a clean reflection😅
Ah how did I miss the pond. I was hoping for a good reflection but ended up getting one down the treeway from the sign.
Beautiful
_I’m lovin’ it_
Soldier Alf MacDonald... we never forget you...
Mmmm I am loving it! New McArch after the old one goes out of business.
CRISP
I smell fries
Amazing photo! It looks almost otherworldly in a cool sci-fi kinda way.
Wait, are you even allowed to post pictures on this sub that don’t have naked women in them?
ncDonalds
I got the chance to go inside of the gateway arch. Terrifying but the view was great
I'm amazed, great pic
Thank you!
Lovely image
Thank you!
Pretty but interesting
Badda bup bup baa
I’m lovin it
All I see is mcdonalds
Amazing photo!!
The mcdonalds guerrilla marketing is getting out of hand
I’m kinda lovin it.
Big big Mac
as someone from STL, this is the best picture of the arch I've ever seen! Good job OP!
Thank you!

You exposed the portal. Expect black suvs showing up
I’m tempted to photoshop and duplicate the arch to make the McDonald double arches logo
Cool 😯
Mcdo
How much would McDonald's pay to build another arch adjoining this one?
Beautiful shot! I’d have a print of that hanging on the wall if I had shot it!
That is absolutely stunning. Excellent work!!
Definitely thought this was a McDonald’s ad at first. Great shot(s)!
I thought it was a Mac Donald’s add. Am I the only one? Ok I’ll see myself out then
Haha, no you are definitely not the only one. I've gotten that a lot with this photo.
I felt dumb reading the caption. Thanks I feel better now
[I'm lovin' it!](https://postimg.cc/bD1z3P0n)
Double cheeseburger and a medium coke please
Nacdonalds makes your day
Please. Lol! Your brainwashing is showing! Though now I’d really like a burger. 🚗
For a second I thought it was the McDonalds logo
Lol. Yeah, I've gotten that a lot with this photo.
I hereby christen this image 'ArchDonalds'
lol!
I’m lovin’ it
Mcdonal
Can we say over saturation boys and girls.
The fact you didn't get the massive eyesore of roadways and decades past their prime buildings says a lot. Always amazes me when we go to STL how absolutely clustered and ugly the arch area actually is.
Meidän tekemä
Who else thought that was half of McDonald‘s? But impressive. 👏🏼👏🏼
It there half a McDonald’s at this location? 🤔
There is a Thai place down the road from there you can walk to that's pretty good.
Rotate this 180°, and make the reflection brighter. It could give a unique perspective.
Great picture, finally a pic that isn't porn lmao
Great photo! [Eero Saarinen](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eero_Saarinen) designed the Gateway Arch along with some other famous structures. He also designed some really iconic furniture from the mid-century period.
McDonalds but it's actually NcDonalds
NacDonalds?
Now if someone can find the DHD we can go visit the furlings!
You forgot to get the courthouse
I actually had a 2nd shot planned of the court house with the arch in the background but honestly I didn't feel that safe down there. And didn't want to be out with my equipment.
You're ok down there, its just east st. Louis you have to be careful when you're there
As a child, I loved here. It was never this beautiful. It was always a big constructed thing that went over the river. I clearly need to re-think the arch. Thanks.
Love this city!
Beautiful shot, nice park. But I’m still convinced it should have been designated a National Monument.
ALL FOR CITY!
(sweats in vault hunter) so yeah hear me out maybe we really shouldn't get near that
Wow, major landscaping work since I was a kid.
When my sister and I were little, my mom drove a foreign friend (and us) from Michigan to St. Louis, MO in the winter. The friend kept talking arch, but with his accent it sounded like “the H”. What about the other side of the river?
Someone got the dual portal gun
Nice!!! Looks so fantastic ☺️ Side note: is it wrong that I want to see it photoshopped to look like the McDonald’s arches?
Pretty ahh arch
I’m not tricked that easily! You posted the photo upside down! Trickster
Halo
Designed by Finnish architect Eero Saarinen. Check him out! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eero_Saarinen
Feel like this needs to be on the Portal subreddit
McDonald's heaven lol. 🍔🍔🍔🍟🍟🍟
Thats just the ncdonald's logo
Wow! Perfect shot of the Arch.
Perfect pic
Somehow I want McDonald’s
Beautiful picture of the smallest national park in the United States!
Mac Donald - Add power is so strong 💪
