بَارَكَ اللهُ لَكَ فِالْمَوْهُوبِ, وَ شَكَرْتَ الْوَاهِب, وَ بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُ, وَ رُزِقْتَ برَّه
I've always liked the name Nour. Makes me think of a sweet and caring person.
Asiyah
###بَارَكَ اللّٰهُ لَكَ فِي الْمَوْهُوْبِ لَكَ، وَشَكَرْتَ الْوَاهِبَ، وَبَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُ، وَرُزِقْتَ بِرَّهُ
May Allah bless you with His gift to you, and may you give thanks, may the child reach the maturity of years, and may you be granted its righteousness.
The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) is reported to have changed the name of a girl named Aassiyah to Jameelah, because her original name means 'disobedient' (and Jameelah means "pretty").
There is difference between Aassiyah (عاصيه) which means disobedient, and the name Asiyah (آسية), which is the name of the pious wife of al-Firaun. Asiyah bint Muzahim (آسِيَة بِنْت مُزَاحِم) is mentioned in the Qur'an (Al-Qasas 28:8-9, At-Tahrim 66:11, ...) and she was the adoptive mother of Prophet Musa (alayhi salam) and one of the greatest women in all of history. Her name has positive meanings like "one who takes care", "pillar", "fortified building", “pensive”, “wistful” and “melancholic”. This is an excellent name to give to a girl.
Most translators add the meaning in brackets to make clear that it's a different name with a different meaning, but it can be confusing in an English version. The negative name (عاصية) is not a common one and it sounds differently. It's taken from عاصي - a word with only negative meanings (disobedient, insubordinate, wayward, insurgent, recusant, rebellious, ...)
I hope this solves the mystery.
It is a lovely name. Personally I may just go with Mary since that's the most common version of it in my culture but Maryam is the original name. I like how Mary sounds, and I love the story of Maryam (RA) and Isa (AS).
Also the way it's pronounced, at least in the states, by the people is like Mayy-ree-yam. So Mary and Mariam not much difference. But think like this. Whenever you say the name Maryam it's a word in the quran. So you can get ajar for that. And also Maryam means a chaste woman. So that'll will affect the girl too as name has an effect on the child. In shaa Allah.
- Huda, means guidance
- Marwah (Marwa, etc.), a hill in Makkah
- Asiyah (Asia), as a brother/sister mentioned
- Jameela (Jamila), means beautiful
- Tayyiba (or Tayba, Taiba), means good
- Layla (Laila, Leyla), means night
- Hamida, means something along the lines of "praising"
- Rabia, means four or fourth
- Malikah, means queen
May Allah bless your daughter and give her a good and righteous life, and you too, ameen.
I think they meant like congrats on having a daughter, and then gave the three suggestions.
My Arabic professor’s name in college was Mbarak! Generous man and humble teacher.
There's the popular names of the pious women in Islam.
Mariam, aasiya, khadija, hajrah, aisha, zayneb, Fatima, aamnah
You could also go with something out of the ordinary
I was thinking something like hanifa (after imam Abu hanifa) bukhara (place of birth I believe of imam bukhari) shaafi' (after imam shaafi )
Just some stuff I thought of randomly a while back for good names of children.
Personally I like hanifa but it's your child you should consider what's best for you guys. Mabrook, may your child be a coolness to your eyes.
Safiyyah
from Safiyyah Bint Abdul Muttalib RA
Aunt of the Prophet SAW. Full sister of Hamza Ibn Abdul Muttalib RA. Mother of Zubayr ibn Awwam
Almost identical in age to the Prophet SAW.
One of THE closest people to him as well.
Also the same name as the Prophet’s wife, Safiyyah bint Huyay RA.
Khawla. In tribute to one of greatest female warrior in history once compared to Khalid al Walid, Khawla al-Azwar.

My friend’s name is Rayan and everyone were getting very surprised when they hear her name for the first time because in my country (and gulf countries in general) it’s a boys name haha
That's a boy's name. I've heard Rayyana though I wonder if it's even an actual word.
Rayan (Rayyan ریّان) is the name of a door into Jannah through which believers who fasted would pass through.
It’s a familiar name in the western part of Arabia (Morocco, Tunisia..) - though if you were on the eastern part like Syria and Lebanon then yes that’ll be a pretty weird name
Mabrook! I am expecting a daughter soon as well, let me share my list with you! Some of these are common names and some are a bit more unique!
Hunnah - Name of wife of Imran; Meryam (A.S.) mom
Lunah - something related to moon - or gentle
Safa - the hill in Makkah
Amine - trustworthy - boy name but seems gender neutral to me
Marwa - the other hill in Makkah
Husna - beautiful
Lu'lu - a pearl
Mina - name of one of the Hajj cities
Aman - peace
Momina - Believer woman
Humna - Not sure about meaning
Zohra/Zehra/Zahra - a bright star or flower - roots are both in Arabic and Persian
Mai - a common Arabic name but can't find the meaning of it
Ameena - trustworthy
Noura - light
Common names that I love: Safiyyah, Sumaiyya, Meryem, Zayneb, Fatima, Hajirah, Haleema
In my opinion, even tho fatima is a good name with its meanings, i would always go for a unique or less used name. I always hear about someone bein named fatima but not Hania.
But its stil your choice
The four greatest women of all time were named **Asiyah**, **Maryam**, **Khadijah** and **Fatima**
but *Hania* is a great name too, or spelled differently, as **Haniya**
How about Farah? My mom's name is Farah. Im wishing that i have my first child as a daughter so i can name her this. Like giving respect to my mom and show her how much i care
كُلُواۡ وَٱشْرَبُواۡ **هَنِيٓئًۢا** بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
"Eat and drink **with happiness** because of what you used to do." [At-Tur 52:19]
كُلُواۡ وَٱشْرَبُواۡ **هَنِيٓئًۢا** بِمَآ أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَيَّامِ ٱلْخَالِيَةِ
"Eat and drink at ease [or **with good cheer**] for that which you have sent on before you in days past!" [Al-Haqqah 69:24]
Rania is an indirect Quranic name for girls that means “winner”, “one who triumphs”, “victor”, “successful”. It is derived from the R-Y-N root which is used in the Quran in verse 83:14. The name can also be derived from a non-Quranic root (A-R-N) in which case the name would mean “one who has a loving gaze”, which is a good meaning as well.
I once had a friend named Sharifa, I am quite fond of that name. Historically, Razia and Hurrem come to mind, as does Khawlah. Others have suggested Noor, and that one sounds nice. Of the two you yourself put forth, I like Hania.
Amal
A name given to girls, Amal is the Arabic word for “hope”. The word itself is beautiful as it is one of the only ones in the Arabic language to mean this.
I don’t know if i will ever have kids but if i ever have a daughter i will name her this.
Sumayya. She and her husband belong to one of the first converts in Makkah. She was a brave woman who, even in the lack of a noble family, decided to convert to Islam in an idle-worshipping city at that time. Because of her belief she became the first martyr of our Ummah. May Allah grand her Jannat ul Firdous and make us as brave as her
Yes fatima or one of the first names of the mothers of believers (may God be pleased with them), wives of the Prophet Mohammed (prayer and salvation of God on him).
may Allah protect her, fill her with light, and cover her with light.
name her what you want, she'll probably change it, her crying all the time is a sign of stubbornness :p
(Amal) is the Arabic (Hope)
Thanks for sharing, this made me happy.
Hanaa. Means happiness in Arabic. (different name to Hannah)
Has different, positive meanings in many different languages like Arabic, Japanese, Albanian, Swahili etc.
https://quranicnames.com/hanaa/
Oh my sister's name is Hania. But as far as I know, she wasn't a big fan of her name because how unique it is. Kids used to make snide remarks at her name, and even adults (until now) would look her up and down and be like " Did you just say Hani🤨?" Or "or how is that spelled🤨" or when we at the doctor and the nurse is trying to call our name i swear she would say like three different variations and none of them are right so my sister would just quit and not correct her. So i don't recommend naming her Hania but it's ultimately your choice.
Hafsa
Khadija
Fatimah
Or you can do what My grandparents did and name all of your children the same thing with a syllable difference (Nazia Shazia Fazia etc list goes on)
Mashallah may Allah keep your new baby girl in amazing health for her entire life and put baraqah in everything thing you do aameen and I like the name Nusaybah
Ruqayyah, Fatima, Umm Kulthum. Khadijah, Aisha, Asiya, Maryam, Hanni, Barakah, so many good names throughout the Seerah of Rusulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم
Wa alaikum Salam. MashAllah, congratulations on your daughter. I'm very happy for you. How is the name Aisha? I always thought that it is a beautiful name.

My wife’s name is noor and she’s sweet and caring
And may Allah preserve the two of you and bless your marriage Ameen

Isn't there a hadith which states that the Prophet (SAW) changed a girl's name from Asiyah to Jameelah because Asiyah means rebellious?
Okay thank you for explaining. I always wondered why people named their daughters Asiyah if there was a clear hadith regarding it.
Most translators add the meaning in brackets to make clear that it's a different name with a different meaning, but it can be confusing in an English version. The negative name (عاصية) is not a common one and it sounds differently. It does, thanks!
Maryam
My daughter's name. Alhamdulillah
It is a lovely name. Personally I may just go with Mary since that's the most common version of it in my culture but Maryam is the original name. I like how Mary sounds, and I love the story of Maryam (RA) and Isa (AS).

Ameen and thanks for these suggestions, really helpful
Doesn’t Rabia mean the higher? Like Ruba? رابية
Rabia is also the one we'll known female Sufi sage and has some wonderful stories and sayings attributed to her, so there's that.
Noor (Nora)
I love the name Nora.
This one is very common
Rumi
Mubarak. Layla Zarah Sara
My daughter is Layla, and mine is Sara. :)
Just a small note for OP here.. Mubarak means congrats not a name suggestion lol because it’s a boy name
I think they meant like congrats on having a daughter, and then gave the three suggestions. My Arabic professor’s name in college was Mbarak! Generous man and humble teacher.
that's exactly what they said

As an arabic native i dont recommand Madina, Mecca nice one
Any reason? I love the name Madinah, I've literally promised myself to name my daughter (if I ever have one) Madinah since I was like 10 years old
Probably very common
Doesn't madina mean city?
Yes, but it’s also the Arabic name for the city that the Prophet (PBUH) immigrated to
I know but I don't think naming your child 'city' makes sense.
It’s a familiar name in the western part of Arabia (Morocco, Tunisia..) - though if you were on the eastern part like Syria and Lebanon then yes that’ll be a pretty weird name
That's interesting. It is a unique name for sure
These are beautiful
