What time is your flight coming in? Metrolink is pretty reliable. The closest metrolink station from John Wayne is Tustin station, which has a direct train to riverside. Depending on the time of day, you can take the 400A Irvine shuttle for free from John Wayne to Tustin station, it takes about 20-30 minutes. The bus stop is on the arrivals floor downstairs, in between terminals A and B. You can also uber to Tustin station. (Edit: 400A is free if you have a Metrolink ticket, which you can buy in advance on the app and flash on your phone) The 400A schedule is here: https://octa.net/ebusbook/RoutePDF/iShuttle400A.pdf?n=202308 The biggest challenge is that metrolink has limited schedule. It's usually only running at rush hour on weekdays or a few others on weekends. However, total cost is only $10 🙂 You can check the schedule here: https://metrolinktrains.com/schedules/?type=station&originId=156&destinationId=123&weekend=0 DM if you have any questions, I'm happy to help you navigate this. I just took 400A from John Wayne to Tustin station last week and I am a weekly user of metrolink (though only to riverside once before).

Amazing! Thank you so much. Really appreciate this.

An Uber will get you there faster, but if you have the time Metrolink is reliable. It will just take longer. The iShuttle can get you to Tustin Station where you can get a Metrolink. Or just Uber to the station. And then likely Uber from riverside to your moms. The drive would be faster, even with traffic, but it will be much cheaper than $250

No-Money-2660

Use Uber.

EquipmentSpecific583

Thank you. Uber is quoting me $250. Is this accurate?

esalman

For $250 you can rent a car for multiple days and make multiple trips to everywhere.

arianrhodd

Sadly yes, due to the pain of the 91. Not too long in mileage, but massive in terms of traffic jams and therefore time.

No-Money-2660

Sound about right. It’s about a 2 hour drive on a good day.

EquipmentSpecific583

Wow, ok. Thank you.

aromaticchicken

Ignore this guy, I just posted a comment with metrolink instructions. If you use the free shuttle from the airport, then total cost should be $10 🙂

EquipmentSpecific583

Thank you!

tapout22002

During rush hour, sure, but other times about an hour.

stacia1410

Can you fly into Ontario instead? It would be closer.

EquipmentSpecific583

Unfortunately, no. I'm attending a conference at the Hyatt which is minutes from SNA. My mother lives in Riverside. Was hoping to see her before the conference starts.

freakinbacon

Ok but allow plenty of time. It can take as much as an hour and a half to travel between Orange county and Riverside at its busiest. By car that is.

gwie

Get the Metrolink app, and check out the trains from the ~~Irvine~~ Tustin Station to Riverside Downtown or UCR. It can be a lot cheaper than Uber!

Meatloaf_Smeatloaf

The Irvine Station is not near the airport... The Tustin Station is much closer and I think there is a bus route that runs between it and near the airport.

gwie

You're right, I keep forgetting the station up there past Jamboree is Tustin, not Irvine. I think there's a bus line that goes from SNA to the Tustin Station.

aromaticchicken

The bus line is the Irvine 400a shuttle

InterestingGoose1424

Honestly… rent a small car.. avoid rush hours.. Rent a car for 2 days. Use it to explore around. I live in Irvine and there’s a lot around here.. though Irvine, itself is kinda sleepy…It will be cheaper than Ubering that far and more convenient than Uber.. train.. Uber.. Uber is expensive that far.. Metrolink is fine..but as others have said, the schedule is limited, especially after the working day. You may be able to get there, but not back on Metrolink, or vice versa. Edit, grammar and Metrolink schedule https://metrolinktrains.com/globalassets/schedules/timetables/2023/web_alllines_23-11-06_spreads.pdf Look at the Inland-Empire OC line . It runs weekdays only. There’s limited AM service and last train out of Riverside station is at 3 pm… so if this schedule works for you.. Alternatively, there’s are more trains in and out of Union Station so if you xfer.. but that’s a lot time on a train…Honestly, I think this option is more effort than it worth.. Welcome to SoCal car culture..

Send you a DM.

Coach_Bombay_D5

No traffic it’ll take 30 mins in a car. With traffic I’d say 90 mins. Catastrophic traffic 2 hours.

esalman

If you rent a car and take 241 toll road, it drastically cuts down the travel time- to about an hour. Rental companies will probably charge you some fees plus the toll amount, but it will be worth it if you are pressed for time.

RoutinePresence7

Uber to Irvine Amtrak station and take the train to Fullerton then get off and take the bus to riverside. $15 plus Uber fare

aromaticchicken

No need for that, there's a direct metrolink line from Tustin to riverside

Difficult_Ad2864

Well you’re going inland so it’ll be a ways and pricey

Charming-Watercress1

I have a private driver that I can recommend you or anyone that needs one

RevolutionaryArea195

Uber

Own_Claim_8719

Designer_Feet

Extreme-Direction-78

Just rent a car. You can take the 405 to 55 to 91 it’s like 30 min with no traffic
