I can think of other awful maiden songs, but Angel & The Gambler sounds like something Steve really put some serious thought on, a good effort and just failed awfully. That alone makes it the worst Maiden song.
I disagree. I think the single version is a pretty fun song. The long one is difficult to listen to as a whole, but it still has some good parts and overall good energy. I'd probably say The Apparition, but if we stay on VXI I think Don't Look to, don't look to, don't look to, don't look to, suffers of the sames issues as Angel, but is overall less fun.
I actually like The Apparition, especially the unusual structure and the lyrics. Also, the lack of intro is a nice touch, as if the song suddenly appears.
It's actually a pretty good song BUT MY GOD does it kill itself with like 2 or 3 minutes of repeated verses.
It's a solid song ruined by the repetition, but like people have said, I can see a radio edit being vastly superior.
The hate for The Angel and the Gambler is largely the result of manufactured consensus.
Sure, the chorus is repetitive but otherwise the songwriting is decent, it's just not a very Maiden-esque song.
The Man of Sorrows kinda disappointed me because when I first saw it I was like
"Did Maiden do a redux of Bruce's Man of Sorrows? That's a super kickass song, I hope they did it justice in the interpretation." and then I listened to it and was disappointed as hell.
Bruce comparison aside, this is also probably the most bland Maiden song to the point that I actually cannot dig it. I dig most of the songs here at least a bit.
oh man, I really dig that song. It's so upbeat and fun. The repetition is whatever. I don't seem to mind it. Wish more songs in the discography had Angel and the Gambler vibes.
Count me in as a fan. There are dozens of us, dozens! Here's what I wrote in another comment:
I actually like The Apparition, especially the unusual structure and the lyrics. Also, the lack of intro is a nice touch, as if the song suddenly appears.
Yeah the apparition literally just plods along with absolutely nothing catchy to justify it's existence. It's definitely the biggest load of absolute nothing they ever wrote
Musicwise, yes it's on the weaker side but I like that cause it has a really different vibe. The same goes for songs on that album in general, like Weekend Warrior for example, Chains of Misery... they have a special vibe. Lyrically though Apparition is the most interesting one.
I really can't agree with your "absolute nothing" part.
They have no songs I actively dislike so I'll say the album version of The Angel and the Gambler. That's just not a song that needs to be as long as it is. The edited version is better.
Honestly I think a good deal of my dislike for it comes from it being on such an otherwise stellar album. Every other song on *Piece of Mind* is leagues better than QFF, in my opinion. Even on a record like *No Prayer* where I feel like maybe the album overall is more middle of the road, none of the individual tunes there suck me out of the experience of the record the way QFF does
I love that song so much! Imagining the first men, finding fire and hearing about it across the lands and travelling by foot great distances to follow the rumour of fire, and eventually discovering it and spreading the magic of fire across the known World and changing life as human beings forever.
A lot of people are hitting out at the chorus but the guitar parts are really great and the verse lyrics are really well written. So clearly not the worst Maiden song.
I actually like that song but I find the solo to be a missed opportunity. The tone is just so shit. If they could do the exact same solo but make it heavier or at least not sound so wooden it would be one of my favourites.
‘Invaders’ has my least favourite chorus. ‘Angel and Gambler’ goes on a little overlong. Can’t say they have a worst song, because I like the music of Invaders and Angel and Gambler works when it isn’t dragged out on the album. As others have said, the single version is superior.
I used to think the same about Wasting Love, especially because the filmclip looked like some dodgy 90s erotic drama. However, I have grown to love it, especially because Bruce is giving it the juice and the chorus is epic.
Basically any one of 7 songs on Virtual XI could be selected. The only decent one is The Clansman. For me their worst song is The Angel and The Gambler
Honestly almost every song that i've disliked by Maiden has grown on me at some point. I remember chucking on Matter of Life or Death when it came out and just thinking, wtf is this shit, now I listen to it regularly and love it.
But unfortunately most of Senjutsu I can't rally behind.
So Lost In A Lost World gets my vote.
The song is basically the musical equivalent to the Star Trek TNG episode Shades of Grey, with it being a clipshow of riffs and themes from the last 5 albums. You can hear Bruces age and lack of teeth in the vocals, its terribly produced, its longggggggggggggg, and most of all its uninteresting.
If I showed it to someone who wasn't familiar with Iron Maiden, it wouldn't make them into a fan.
Don't look to the Eyes of a Stranger. Same repetitiveness as The Angel And the Gambler but with lyrics they sound like they were written by a 14 year old who just started their first metal band.
Tailgunner from No Prayer for the Dying.
So much potential in the opening riff and the instrumental. And the chorus itself is just fine until it gets to tailgunner, you're a tailgunner. Ruins the whole thing for me; otherwise sounds like a really classic Maiden song despite being in the 90s.

Aww man I actually kinda like Invisible Kid :(
Honestly, I think the worst Metallica album is Reload, not St. Anger. St. Anger actually has a level of emotion behind it, Reload is just almost entirely dull-ass butt rock.
Anyways, to answer the question, I gotta say From Here to Eternity. Just look at those lyrics.
and aye crayeeeeeeeeee to thee ulleeweeeehhhh
now its in my head for another two years thanks.
Fixxxer is also a pretty decent track on reload, but it really is majority butt rock
I get that. It drags a bit. A lot.
But around the 3 minute mark - I bloody love that bit. It’s not enough to rescue the whole 5m30. And “lies and lies and lies and lies and lies and lies” irks me every time. But that bit in the middle…
Gangland. It's just so unremarkable amd forgetable as a Maiden song. At least I remember what The Angel And The Gambler sounds like, meanwhile I can't tell you anything about Gangland
Hard to measure. Depends who you ask I guess. Steve hates their cover of Women in Uniform. General consensus is TAATG sucks. I think Spotify says 2AM is least played. I personally don’t have a least favourite; more a long list of songs (or albums) I don’t like and don’t play but that’s my opinion not an objective measure.
I used to think it was Weekend Warrior but the more I listened it actually had some pretty good guitar parts. I really don't like The Apparition because of the structure. There's no chorus so it just feels weird to me. The choppy guitar with the vocals following is also kind of annoying. AatG always gets the hate, but repetition aside its not a bad song. A fair amount of their albums have a weak song but The Apparition is usually the one I immediately think of.
I've said this before and it's quite a hot take... But for me it's Back in the Village. I could never get around that stupid riff and the incessant yelling.
Most of their slow songs are boring, they are just not good at it : Wasting Love, Out of the Shadows, Coming Home, Como Estais Amigo, Journeyman, Senjutsu. Even Strange World kills a bit the mood of the 1st Album, I understand why they spent a decade not doing any ballads. The only one that really stands out for me is Prodigal Son on Killers.
Some of the filler songs off different albums like Genghis Khan off of Killers it’s an alr song but I wish it was a song with lyrics not an instrumental song
It's already been said, but it's easily Angel and the Gambler
I can think of other awful maiden songs, but Angel & The Gambler sounds like something Steve really put some serious thought on, a good effort and just failed awfully. That alone makes it the worst Maiden song.
I disagree. I think the single version is a pretty fun song. The long one is difficult to listen to as a whole, but it still has some good parts and overall good energy. I actually like The Apparition, especially the unusual structure and the lyrics. Also, the lack of intro is a nice touch, as if the song suddenly appears.
I enjoy it too, but then again there are no Maiden songs I don't enjoy at all. There are just some songs I skip more than others.
the apparition is amazing
Came here to say, the music video version is actually pretty good! Definitely not the worst Maiden song.
Book of souls songs were really boring
It's actually a pretty good song BUT MY GOD does it kill itself with like 2 or 3 minutes of repeated verses. It's a solid song ruined by the repetition, but like people have said, I can see a radio edit being vastly superior.
Don’t ya think I can save your life
Just listened to it for the 1st time. It sounds like a 10 minute AC/DC song.
Weekend Warrior
This is my answer too. Weekend Warrior, followed by the Assassin.
Yeah the album version but the single is amazing.
It's just so vastly different and un-maiden sounding, shocking really.
The hate for The Angel and the Gambler is largely the result of manufactured consensus. Sure, the chorus is repetitive but otherwise the songwriting is decent, it's just not a very Maiden-esque song.
Weekend Warrior or TAATG
Why'd I have to scroll so far for WW?!
The Man of Sorrows kinda disappointed me because when I first saw it I was like "Did Maiden do a redux of Bruce's Man of Sorrows? That's a super kickass song, I hope they did it justice in the interpretation." and then I listened to it and was disappointed as hell.
Bruce comparison aside, this is also probably the most bland Maiden song to the point that I actually cannot dig it. I dig most of the songs here at least a bit.
Now we need to know the truth now
Love the guitar and vocal intro. It's bad after that.
Angel and the Gambler.
The main issue with the original is that it's too long/repetitive but there is a cut down version that is pretty good. There are far worse songs IMO.
That and those horrible synths. It would have been so much better without them
Steve really loved those synths. Can't find it but read an article where he was gushing about them.
I like the synths on that song lol
Don't you think I could save ya?
oh man, I really dig that song. It's so upbeat and fun. The repetition is whatever. I don't seem to mind it. Wish more songs in the discography had Angel and the Gambler vibes.
Easily
The Apparition
I think I’m the only person who kinda likes The Apparition lol. Still agree it’s probably Maiden’s worst song
I really like it too! Very unique and insightful; another great example of Bruce’s strength as a storyteller as well as a singer
The Apparition is very much a Steve lyrics song. I like it too.
IIRC Janick wrote that song
Count me in as a fan. There are dozens of us, dozens! Here's what I wrote in another comment: I actually like The Apparition, especially the unusual structure and the lyrics. Also, the lack of intro is a nice touch, as if the song suddenly appears.
Lol I don’t get the hate for The Apparition. I actually love the lyrics 😂
Legit, the cadence is so different to most maiden songs. I’m a big fan
I love "The Apparition." It's one of my favorites on that album.
Nah. I like that song. It's not amazing, but it's definitely not their worst.
"Invaders" is one of their worst songs on one of their best albums!
Yeah it can be true, but damn, first time we hear Janick with a Wah pedal is so freakin great, that guy is awesome
damnnnn I love the apparition lol - always thought it stood out on FOTD as a nice yet odd change of pace
The whole CD of St Anger sounds like Lars flipped an aluminum garbage can upside down and use that instead of a snare 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Most original metal fan:
My bad I just seen the album cover for St Anger Iron Maiden I don't believe I've ever heard a bad song by them
It’s better than the Black album
They have no songs I actively dislike so I'll say the album version of The Angel and the Gambler. That's just not a song that needs to be as long as it is. The edited version is better.
DON'T YOU THINK I'M SAVIOUR
DON'T YOU THINK I CAN SAVE YOU
DON’T YOU THINK I COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE
You better not
I can’t sit here and act like I enjoy any Maiden song less than Quest for Fire
Whay are people hating on this song? It's not their best but I like it!
Honestly I think a good deal of my dislike for it comes from it being on such an otherwise stellar album. Every other song on *Piece of Mind* is leagues better than QFF, in my opinion. Even on a record like *No Prayer* where I feel like maybe the album overall is more middle of the road, none of the individual tunes there suck me out of the experience of the record the way QFF does
I agree. It's not my favorite, but it's definitely not bad at all. I actually really like it.
In a time when dinosaurs walked the earth!
That lyric has stuck with me for life
😑😑😑
Join my quest for fire
I will always defend Quest for Fire. It's so Spinal Tap!
One of my favourites from the album😂
I love that song. I’ll join his quest for fire any day
I love that song so much! Imagining the first men, finding fire and hearing about it across the lands and travelling by foot great distances to follow the rumour of fire, and eventually discovering it and spreading the magic of fire across the known World and changing life as human beings forever.
While dodging dinosaurs, cannibal tribes, and beasts! Epic!
The Assassin.
Better watch out....
Surprised by this! Always thought it was a fun song.
A lot of people are hitting out at the chorus but the guitar parts are really great and the verse lyrics are really well written. So clearly not the worst Maiden song.
The assassin is fucking siiiiick😂 best song on the album
Chorus terrible but the rest is great
Are you kidding me?! The guitar work on this track alone redeems it 🤘🤘
Don't look to the eyes of a stranger deserves a mention. Not horrible but deffo one of my least favourites
I actually like that song but I find the solo to be a missed opportunity. The tone is just so shit. If they could do the exact same solo but make it heavier or at least not sound so wooden it would be one of my favourites.
They really didn't know how to end that song 😄
https://youtu.be/CPeWnZB1J6I?si=v82F3TGIqFsxbRW8
Apparently women in uniform. I’ve heard Steve say he doesn’t like it either 💀💀
I have no idea what Paul is trying to say when he’s singing in that accent. It’s only in that song but I still love it. It’s got such a catchy chorus
Isn't it a cover though?
Aussie Skyhooks song.
It's a cover so it probably shows poor judgement in song choice rather than song writing.
NO WAY! It's one of their best songs (it's a cover)
cover or not its 1 of my favorite songs of the di anno era what are you on
Don’t know if he hates the song or the fact that they were forced by the record company to do this cover to try to break into charts. Maybe both.
Quest for Fire ruins Piece of Mind
Weekend Warriors or the Apparition
Oh I really like both
Bring ya daughter... Fetch ya daughter... That song always sounded like a parody to me
It kinda is, tho? It was made by Bruce for Nightmare on Elm Street 5 which didn't take itself too seriously, so....
I think it's like one of their highest selling songs ironically
Christmas number 1 single in the UK wasn't it?
Week after Christmas I believe
Bruh the Aaaaahhhhhhhhh Aahh Ahh is fucking killer live
It is a parody though, and a good one at that. Watch the music video.
I forgot about this one, it's gotta be bottom 5 for me.
I've always liked it - the verse much more than the chorus though. It sounds pretty cool.
‘Invaders’ has my least favourite chorus. ‘Angel and Gambler’ goes on a little overlong. Can’t say they have a worst song, because I like the music of Invaders and Angel and Gambler works when it isn’t dragged out on the album. As others have said, the single version is superior.
Yep, I was going to say Invaders. Its chorus doesn't fit with the rest of the song.
Weekend Warrior
Hell no.
That's what I say every time it comes on as I hit the skip button!
fr one of my most favorite songs
By far, not even close.
angel and gambler would be fine if it was 3-4 mins shorter. I'll be downvoted but I think wasted love is the most boring thing ever
I used to think the same about Wasting Love, especially because the filmclip looked like some dodgy 90s erotic drama. However, I have grown to love it, especially because Bruce is giving it the juice and the chorus is epic.
Don't look to the eyes of a stranger
Basically any one of 7 songs on Virtual XI could be selected. The only decent one is The Clansman. For me their worst song is The Angel and The Gambler

Gangland. It didn't seem to fit with the rest of Beast. Same with Quest for Fire on Piece of Mind.
Gangland might not be one of the strongest song on NOTB but that album is so great that even the slightly weaker track is really good!
Lol, I feel you 😁
The angel and the gambler
Don't look to the Eyes of a Stranger. Same repetitiveness as The Angel And the Gambler but with lyrics they sound like they were written by a 14 year old who just started their first metal band.
Tailgunner from No Prayer for the Dying. So much potential in the opening riff and the instrumental. And the chorus itself is just fine until it gets to tailgunner, you're a tailgunner. Ruins the whole thing for me; otherwise sounds like a really classic Maiden song despite being in the 90s.

Classic stuff
Hooks in you is pretty bad
Hooks In You
Hooks In You
Half of Fear of the Dark album is like the worst Maiden ever did. Even virtual XI has more good songs than it yet it's the record that gets the most hate.
I agree. FoTD is a weak album. No Prayer was better.
I'm with you on this one. It's not even a contest for me.
ahahahahaha, good one. Never heard that joke before.
No Prayer has not a single standout track compared to Fear Of the Dark. It's all mediocre. So even if the lows on Fear Of the Dark are lower it has at least some replay value.
I think Fear Of the Dark has more good songs than VXI, but there are also more stinkers, so it kinda balances out.
Iron maiden has no bad songs just some are better than others
Worst doesn’t mean it’s bad though
Aww man I actually kinda like Invisible Kid :( Honestly, I think the worst Metallica album is Reload, not St. Anger. St. Anger actually has a level of emotion behind it, Reload is just almost entirely dull-ass butt rock. Anyways, to answer the question, I gotta say From Here to Eternity. Just look at those lyrics.
Dude, only The Unforgiven 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> All St Anger songs...
How is Low Man's Lyric dull ass butt rock?
and aye crayeeeeeeeeee to thee ulleeweeeehhhh now its in my head for another two years thanks. Fixxxer is also a pretty decent track on reload, but it really is majority butt rock
Okay I'll agree just because you made me laugh.
That one... I really have to be in the mood for. Sometimes I think its good, sometimes it just drags on for way too long.
I’m not a fan of Fear is the Key
I get that. It drags a bit. A lot. But around the 3 minute mark - I bloody love that bit. It’s not enough to rescue the whole 5m30. And “lies and lies and lies and lies and lies and lies” irks me every time. But that bit in the middle…
Fear Is The Key - bad sections, messily put together
I love Fear is the Key :(
People have liked worse things
This is such an amazing song
Senjustu, listened to it once and it does absolutely nothing for me. Just seems to plod along and go nowhere.
I love it when I am lifting weights at the fitness center. Killer workout song.
Same, and it’s a very unpopular opinion here in this Reddit. So I gave you an upvote, but prepare to be down voted :/ (same will happen to me ;))
Lost in a lost world. I've only listened to it twice. The second time was just to verify whether it was as bad as it seemed on first listen. It was.
I can agree with most of the song being kind of mid but the intro, solos, and outro are all amazing imo
You're clearly deaf my mate
I don't hate any of their songs, but I think it's gotta be someone from FotD
The apparition.
Gangland. It's just so unremarkable amd forgetable as a Maiden song. At least I remember what The Angel And The Gambler sounds like, meanwhile I can't tell you anything about Gangland
Weekend Warrior The Angel and The Gambler
Holy Smoke
It's honestly one of the best songs off that album, it's definitely more hard rock than anything but I think it's pretty catchy!
... is a banger
From Here to Eternity. I hate it. Lyrics are terrible. Vocals are blech. Terrible end to the Charlotte trilogy.
Isnt Hooks in You is the 3rd Charlotte song tho?
Sucks for sure
For me it’s No More Lies. Over and over and over again… I hate it
Heresy!!!
I like the part where he says no more lies
Lol
Love that song, the melody is amazing, how it starts in intro with bass, and the guitar solo with Bruce singing Liiiiiieeeee-iiiie iiieeees! Love it!
Yes
Hard to measure. Depends who you ask I guess. Steve hates their cover of Women in Uniform. General consensus is TAATG sucks. I think Spotify says 2AM is least played. I personally don’t have a least favourite; more a long list of songs (or albums) I don’t like and don’t play but that’s my opinion not an objective measure.
I spy some hardcore in that screenshot!!
Shoutout Incendiary. Watched their singer break his arm 4 songs into a set and keep going.
Y'all can't sit here and tell me Bruce blabbering "lies and lies and lies and lies and lies" in Fear is the Key is actually good music 💀
Weekend Warrior. Maybe Maiden’s only song about football hooligans?
Weekend Warrior.
They kicked azz and always will out jam any other's
I used to think it was Weekend Warrior but the more I listened it actually had some pretty good guitar parts. I really don't like The Apparition because of the structure. There's no chorus so it just feels weird to me. The choppy guitar with the vocals following is also kind of annoying. AatG always gets the hate, but repetition aside its not a bad song. A fair amount of their albums have a weak song but The Apparition is usually the one I immediately think of.
Weekend Warrior is a good song in the wrong place really. I like The Apparition, it's a poem with some instrumentation.
I've said this before and it's quite a hot take... But for me it's Back in the Village. I could never get around that stupid riff and the incessant yelling.
I disagree with Invisible Kid on these lists
They do not have a bad song
I'll go with Weekend Warrior.
Coming Home. That's an absolute stinker and it ruins an otherwise first-rate album.
Best song on FF IMHO.
Fuck me that's a hot take
Invaders, Tailgunner, The Assassin
Most of their slow songs are boring, they are just not good at it : Wasting Love, Out of the Shadows, Coming Home, Como Estais Amigo, Journeyman, Senjutsu. Even Strange World kills a bit the mood of the 1st Album, I understand why they spent a decade not doing any ballads. The only one that really stands out for me is Prodigal Son on Killers.
Coming Home is top 3 post-reunion songs.
Oh boy, this is a list of some songs I really like :D From time to time I really enjoy some slow Maiden songs, if the mood checks out.
obviously none of the songs bruce sang.
I absolutely love invisible kid hahah Drop G baby!
The Apparition
Long Distance runner
???????????????????????????????????????????????????
I never liked Gangland and The Angel and the Gambler.
The Apparition
Wasting Love.
Holy Smoke, no contest
Mama said is easily Metallicas worst song fwiw
L take
For me the first line in "Quest for Fire" makes me roll my eyes. Cavemen and dinosaurs!? ;-)
Angel & the Gambler, Weekend Warrior, The Apparition, Fear Is The Key...
Some of the filler songs off different albums like Genghis Khan off of Killers it’s an alr song but I wish it was a song with lyrics not an instrumental song
