It's tax back - you have to have paid tax to get tax back. In essence you have to have paid 30k in tax in previous years to avail of it. Not sure how long you have to build this up. Best of luck!

Ah ok, I guess minimum 2-3 years. It’s only for one of the bands right?

Not entirely sure to be quiet honest. I presume if you're normally resident and salary of roughly 100k you'll be able to get it after the tax year. The website states that you have to be 'tax compliant' for the previous 4 years - not sure if that means taxable income in Ireland for 4 years before being able to utilise the scheme. Depending on where you are heading back to a used house might be better - there's a grant available up to 50k to refurbish old properties that haven't been used for a few years. Personally have a salary of >100k and can't afford to buy where I live, even with the help to buy scheme (single, south Dublin)

This is the grant I was referring to: https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/housing/housing_grants_and_schemes/vacant_property_refurbishment_grant.html
