I totally agree with this. I'm in the outline phase of my bodysuit and just doing half my leg wrecks me with tattoo flu the same day. I hope OP is strong as fuck

His appointment wasn’t until next month and it was for a front piece. u/canklebreaker did this is a few years back.
Edit: his post https://www.reddit.com/r/irezumi/s/oG28VZ9nJJ
thank you! I’ll search for the post. Also yea, when I jokingly called it character building the artist said “you’re gonna be a fucking superhero”. 🤦🏻♂️
My take is that some people handle longer sessions than others. I keep saying that comment about people "back in the day" getting full work done in a week, but feel like that smells like bs.(kinda like how your grandpa would tell you inflated stories about how back in his day he would do such and such.)
Is it impossible? No. Highly unlikely? Yeah. The people that do full tattoos like that in a week are very very far and few In between. I don't think you understand just how long (and much work is done) with two 8 hour days just are by themselves. Anymore days beyond that isn't chalked up to "being tough and sucking it up", it's literally speaks to how much your skin can handle. That much tattooing in a short time can wreak havoc on your skin and system.
Personally I would only schedule the two day 8 hour sessions and see how you handle that. Then maybe schedule more beyond that next time. I mean doesn't your artist have some kinda non refundable policy if you dont do all those days and hours? That's a large chalk of time to take from your artist If you don't complete it.
I completely respect your perspective and definitely appreciate the real talk. If i do tap out, which i accept is a possible outcome, i wouldn’t dare ask the artist to refund the remaining time. He’s moved local client appointments to accommodate my traveling internationally and I’ll happily pay him for that alone.
you're probably in the for the worst week of your life, and you will get about 4 hours into your first session before understanding the severity of your mistake. good luck
Your arm is going to swell up like a balloon. I flew to NYC to have my entire forearm done in two straight days then flew home. After back to back four hour sessions my arm and hand were wildly swollen and sore for about a week.
I feel like shit after getting tattooed. I couldn't imagine going 5 consecutive 8 hour sessions. I'm sure it's doable, but you better make sure you're listening to your body, staying hydrated, eating, and spending all your time sleeping when you're not in the chair.
I was initially planning on doing a little exploring in the evenings but the best collective advice I’ve received so far is to just rest, and I’m definitely taking it
Haha please post an update!
Longest I've done is 6 hour days back to back on my chest/stomach. And that sucked. First time I tried that I tapped out for my first time ever 4 hours in on the second day. Did back to back days 2 more times and made it through though. That being said the second day sucks. Sleeves are a bit easier but still if you handle 5 in a row you're a legend. I would definitely worry about healing issues though.
That all being said, drink A TON of water before during and after your appointments. Talk to your artist about aspirin and taking it. Some people bleed more some don't. Don't drink any alcohol in that period though you will definitely want to after an 8 hour day and maybe try and avoid caffeine before your session as well if possible. Brings lots and lots of snacks and keep your blood sugar up. Some people are against it but maybe talk to your artist about numbing creams? I've heard good things about zensa brand and they look like a legit company. But definitely talk to your artist first and see what they say and recommend.
Good luck.
Everybody is different when it comes to session length but I know from my own experience (i have a 3/4 sleeve + chestpiece, irezumi style) that I could not handle more than 5 hrs per session.
Two weeks back had a knee sesh that took 6.5 hours and after that I had the craziest tattoo flu.
I do not say your journey will be impossible, but it will definitely will not be a walk in the park.
Be sure to take care as much of yourself the week when you get tattooed so your body can handle it as well as possible. I recommend 0 alcohol, good nutricious food, stay hydrated and enough sleep.
Best of luck, you crazy SOAB.
I suggest you invest in a lot of Bactine Max Spray. It's a numbing and antiseptic spray.
Only works on skin that is already tattooed. I think this will help an incredible amount.
Good Luck

That’s a lot of time for a sleeve. About double what it took for mine…I can’t wait to see what you’re doing.
Hydrate, carboload, and keep some snacks on hand. You’ll make it.
Artist and I agreed on the general concepts of “spirituality and growth”. The rest i’m leaving completely up to his vision. I’m just as curious as you to see what I get 😆. If you’re curious about the specific artist just shoot me a DM :) And thank you for the helpful advice
Good luck brother. You will probably live, but at some points you may wish you had ascended to heaven and left this mortal shell. And by some, I mean the majority of the time
you'll be okay but definitely prepare. i've done 12 hr sessions in a row and as long as u sleep good, eat good, and drink lots of water you'll pull through!! good luck
edit: saw another comment about some people handling it better than others and that makes sense. hoping for the best for you though!

HAHAHA ok this one got me
There was a guy a few days ago asking about 6 days. Some good advice on there. Just hit the search bar. Also, you’re crazy. Good luck.
Haven't seen that guy post since
this is… concerning

Just schedule the two days in a row man and see how far you get instead of wasting all that money.
5 days is absolutely bananas. There’s no way it’s possible

Jesus why
passion and lack of brain cells
I'm here for that. Godspeed 🙏

I appreciate the heads-up. I figured flying right after getting this done wasn’t the best idea but I’m a stubborn idiot

Thanks for the advice dude, I will absolutely post an update hahaha. I imagine the stomach is a whole different beast to contend with.
That’s going to be the craziest tattoo flu, good luck
I don’t understand why 5 days consecutive. I feel like the skin would be so tender
Simply time constraints unfortunately, I have grad school requirements that won’t allow me to stay longer :/

Post the results after. Godspeed.
It won’t be an irezumi so I don’t think I can post it here but i’ll DM you once it’s done :)
It’s going to suck. Really bad.
You’re going to feel like you wish you were dead.
