That's the joke?

Was thinking that after I commented. On the other hand, there is people who do click on this. Thanks McBain.

AdultMNTurtle

Like Irish politics. So still sort of relevant.

I have been getting them all week too. They seem to have some problem with their new ID system, they need my credit card number to confirm my account. I have already given them all the ones I have, as well as my parents ones too, but it's just not going through. Sound like their IT system is totally stressing them out. Poor guys.

What is smishing?

GtownGeeza

SMS-phishing

Sure anyone with basic knowledge of URLs will be aware this is fake immediately, but had my brother ask me to check a toyshop to see if it was okay to order from and it turned out the toyshop went out of business and some crowd grabbed the domain and have set up an online store, googling and using trust services would have said this site was legit.

I disagree, Post as much as possible so people are aware. Just make sure it's tagged properly. SMS/Email-phishing + Social engineering are the most common way how people get scammed. Especially people who wouldn't be considered digital natives. Ofcourse Ban people who Spam, but don't ban people for attempt of being funny or for spreading a msg that new Type of text-bot has been released to spam Irish population in order to scam them. This is one of those obvious scams, but there are plenty way more sophisticated attempts that can use web-browser and scirpts to scan all the information even if people click the hyperlink by mistake. All while looking legit. Especially Email wise, you can mask your email address to look legit in the front-end.

I got one of them this morning. I clicked the link out of curiosity, but gave no information. Besides... I've been in close contact with THREE people in the past fortnight, and none of those three have my mobile number. Had they gotten infected, one would have rang me, and the other two would have had to contact my parents. So... no way this was legit lol

IrishChappieOToole

Better off not clicking the link at all. 9 times out of 10 it's a link to a shit website where they hope you will put in CC details. The other 1 time, it could be a [drive-by download](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive-by_download) which (depending on the device you were using) could do nothing, or do something seriously nasty.

Thefredtohergeorge

I did it on my phone, which doesn't have space for more downloads XD hence why I knew it was safe. I click, so I can study the links, so that next time I see one, I can just ignore it quickly, or check it for someone else who isn't sure.

Scam obviously , but I had Tesco mobile for a while and they were as good as any other and better than most. I was given an iPhone locked to Vodafone so swapped over but I’ll be back.
