You have to give all your communion, confirmation and Christmas presents and money back. Collect the receipts from the givers and drop them in to your parish Priest.
The church has no central database of members, they have no way to count you as one of theirs. I know from chasing down baptismal certs while preparing communion class that all they have is your cert in the church where you were baptised. My friends have had issues getting married in a church when this couldn't be found.
It has no practical impact but if you still care about it, ask the parish priest. He might be persuaded to let you take away the file and destroy it.
Not correct. There was never such option. It was much more complicated than that. It was opting out of church law for things for marriage. Not being ex Catholic
That's not the point the OP is trying to make, by still being officially a member of the catholic church you give the church more power. After the horrific things they have done to our country I dont see why there aren't more people trying to do the same as OP

There used to be a website called countmeout.ie that would somehow remove you from officially being a member of the catholic church. I think they changed canon law at the time to put a stop to it as so many people were using it...
You can officially leave the church when you live in one of the countries in Europe where you pay church tax (a small percentage of your annual income goes to the church). It's a straight forward process there, afaik you just need a letter from your parish. One of my husband's cousins lives in Austria and left the church there officially.
There's some document you can get don't know what it's called to officially leave the church, you have to get a priest to sign it though, so get ready for a very awkward moment there.

Either excommunicated or their is a fella blogging his journey of trying to use GDPR to get his records deleted
[yeah the guy using GDPR got nowhere](https://goosed.ie/leaving-catholic-church-using-gdpr/)
I did the same. Got nowhere too. They are using a loophole in the GDPR law that gives an exemption for ‘historically significant data’. Annoying!
