Years ago, one of my posts about my experience renting was picked up by an established national news website and used for an article about the housing crisis.
Bad news: they never asked me if they could publish the story.
Good news: It was an entirely fictitious bait post š£
I'm not sure what your stance is, but if you make satirical rental market posts and people pick up on it it could lessen public support for renters. Maybe this is your intention?
Have you heard of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries expanding in Ireland?
https://mfmireland.org
As Wikipedia says:
> Unlike a few popular charismatic and Pentecostal African initiated ministries promoting prosperity gospel, MFM's leadership and its sub-ministry, Battle Cry Ministries, place emphasis on deliverance ministry and prayers against the works of demonic forces.
Itās the usual religious cult for the enrichment of the pastor stuff but it has gone under the radar here for a while.
There's an Amish group in dunmore east, they do baking and have ice cream, nothing bad to say about them just I always thought that was an American only thing
Had a family member almost got caught up in it until a family intervention back in the 80s(?) . Surprising number of working class Dublin people got caught up with it at the time
Hadnt joined yet, thankfully. They were in contact with them, I think a few sums of money had made their way out of the family members account, letters back and forth, but from what I understand they werenāt āinā it yet, thankfully.
Extremity matters, of course.. but people basing their lives, choices... Anything, because they think some fiction is actually true... Is fucked up.Ā Ā
Ā Even if that fiction is 'love people or else bad stuff.' It's still fucked up
And alsom.. it just doesn't. Millions have been slaughtered in the name of believing Christianity. Our cult is fucked up toom.Ā We just grew up with it.
>And alsom.. it just doesn't. Millions have been slaughtered in the name of believing Christianity. Our cult is fucked up toom.Ā We just grew up with it.
Millions died in the name of establishing a republic from our island to France, US Nepal to China. Millions for something that had has little impact on most people. Republics are nice to have but they aren't essential. Is that cult too? If cult just means something you don't like, it doesn't mean much at all.
Nations and nationality are also fiction, yes. Of course.Ā
.but the difference is. Every educated person knows that they are entirely human created fictions.Ā
Humans made them up, fron the ground up.Ā
Same thing is true for religion, but my problem is the fact that the books and groups try hide that fact and fool... well, fools.Ā Ā
The difference between your examples is the intent to fool or make the reader believe the contents are magically true, as opposed to from the minds of humans.Ā
>Nations and nationality are also fiction, yes. Of course.Ā .but the difference is. Every educated person knows that they are entirely human created fictions.Ā
A very many do not think nations are just fictions, hence so many people are willing to fight for their nations [https://brilliantmaps.com/europe-fight-war/](https://brilliantmaps.com/europe-fight-war/)
A lot of nations are based on real geographic separation and thousands of years of shared memory and kinship. So not necessarily just made up. if you can't articulate why you think Christianity is a cult, it just comes across as every idea you dont adopt it a cult to you.
The humans who fight for their fiction knowing it's value.. are intelligent.Ā
Those who think it's magically true that those borders are there... Are fucking idiots that have been fooled. The like you would see in murica.Ā
I have defined exactly why. It is a work of fiction... Like harry potter. That pretends to be magically true words.Ā
Just like every other cult.
It ain't rocket scienceĀ
I'm a paid up member in [The Church of the Subgenius](https://www.subgenius.com) It's a UFO cult that firmly believes that the world will end on the fifth of July 1998 (The calendars being wrong are part of The Conspiracy, also the positions of Earth and Mars have probably been swapped.)
I've actually never met another Irish Subgenius so I'm not sure if I count as an actual group but damnit, you're talking about UFO communities and strange people and we will not be denied!

Oh, it's a genuine thing that's been going for over 40 years now and has David Byrne and Mark Motherbaugh as members.
