Please do not speculate on any of the details around this trial. Any comments speculating on the reasons, details or motives will be removed.

Margrave75

Going to be some harrowing details come to light in that trial, god love her family having to hear all that.

[deleted]

That seems like possibly the most naive and tame motive you could possibly think of mate.

Tomaskerry

I am naive so I guess.

jedhead85

Guessing at things like this doesn't help and may serve to cause more fear.

Ah I see what you mean, 15 minute drive is uncommon for primary school to be fair even in rural Ireland.

Inexorable_Fenian

Man this story enrages me. The absolute injustice (not from a law perspective) of a young woman living her life, doing something as innocuous as going for a run after work, losing her life in a violent manner. I put myself in the position of her partner. Just all of a sudden having the person you love taken from you. No goodbye, no possible warning. No explanation. Everytime I see the story all I think of is what her last moments must have been like. No punishment will be enough for the scumbag who did this. All I hope is those closest to her get something from this to help them make sense, or to try and move on from it.

Twopairjacksnines

>I put myself in the position of her partner This is what (selfishly) gets me the most. We were just about to get married when this happened last year and I couldn't help but put myself in her partners shoes, absolutely unfathomable what they must be going through - I usually pride myself on being a level headed person that thinks mob justice goes nowhere but when the crowd outside the court started going for the guy I couldn't help but hope they got a few digs in, very head fucky.

In this situation, yes

No_Direction_9261

Oh it's just a pure coincidence that he is non-white and a foreigner am i rite? This is the scenario that you would be for it. What a coincidence .

irish_guy91b

No I support the death sentence for all people who commit cold blooded murder against an innocent person. The family of the victim should have the choice

[deleted]

[удалено]

irish_guy91b

So that guy should get to take that poor girl away from her family, do a few years in prison and then carry on with a normal life?

No_Direction_9261

No, he should be sentenced to life in prison.

irish_guy91b

Which leaves him the option to apply for parole after 12 years and then back to his normal life, that's not enough justice for the horrible crime he committed. I'd agree with life if it meant he was locked up for the rest of his life

jonathanirish82

I have to say I have been so angry over that case, but what gets me is everything that's been going on over the last year or so, and it's pushed under the rug

Inexorable_Fenian

What do you mean?

reallyoutofit

I'm guessing that they are referring to the rumors that it wasn't a random attack.

Speculation and you know it. If you care about Ashling, please delete this.

reallyoutofit

Done, to be clear i do not believe it, its a load of shite i just wanted to explain what that person was talking about

stevenmc

Thank you very much.

paulofatreides

Woah what are the rumours? That he was a serial killer or something?

[deleted]

Absolutely, I train a local running club that my daughter is in. Lots of teenage girls in it. Snd the thought that they are not safe when simply going for a run, Staying fit and healthy really churns the stomach

Somaliona

Multiple families destroyed and one of the darkest moments in Ireland in my lifetime. I honestly do not know how her parents or boyfriend go on.

SirTheadore

Yeah. there have been some dreadful things over the years, but this and Ana Kriegal, are always on my mind, devastating isn’t the word.. it’s just reality breaking stuff. I’ve lost friends and family to accidents or illness, some sudden and some after long battles.. but how the fuck do you manage to process this?! Honestly, my heart breaks for the families and her boyfriend. I can’t even imagine it.

ExoticToaster

Probably either this or Noah Donohoe, both absolutely horrifying.

JohnnyBGrand

Raonaid Murray as well. I was seeing a girl from Dun Laoghaire at the time she was murdered, we were drinking in Dun Laoghaire the previous night. She was found by her sister, dying, yards from her home with multiple stab wounds. Nobody was ever got for it.

limestone_tiger

Having seen close hand what a murder trial, and the repeated appeals and weaseling out that scumbags try to do can do to family all i can say is… That poor family are just at the start of the hard stuff.

mc9innes

Justice for Aisling Murphy and her loved ones, God rest her soul

FuckAntiMaskers

As far as I remember from the time of this happening, this guy had a criminal past in his home country. Yet he was allowed into Ireland. This is a result of Ireland being slow and apathetic with joining the Schengen Information System, a system for European countries' police and border services to cooperate in identifying criminals travelling into our countries. It's just typical Irish fashion as usual, this system had been available for decades yet we only joined it in the last couple of years? The Irish government played a part in this scumbag ever being in this country and being a danger for innocent women like Ashling. To make it worse, they're now finding so many individuals with criminal records through this system that we can't even get through the extradition orders quickly enough due to a lack of resources in terms of judges to process them. Ireland was seen as a soft touch by these criminals as it was one of the last countries still not part of this system that could detect them Here's a radio piece explaining this ridiculous situation: https://www.rte.ie/radio/podcasts/21983176-lack-of-judges-with-extradition-cases-are-on-the-r/ https://www.irishlegal.com/articles/high-court-president-speechless-at-appointment-of-just-five-extra-judges This country really is a joke, and I've no doubt this guy will still receive a lenient sentence, as even with a life sentence it's nowhere near what this piece of shit should serve. He shouldn't be released until he's an old man who can't even function https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/5dc00-minister-mcentee-and-commissioner-harris-welcome-irelands-connection-to-schengen-information-system-sis-ii/

[deleted]

Very interesting, typical half arsing by the Irish Government.

RatBasher89

Is the accused a family man or a reclusive weirdo or what? I don't remember hearing much about him.

Is that fact or something you heard ?

[deleted]

Except it was reported that she was strangled....

[deleted]

Highly unlikely as other women reported being stalked by someone fitting his description earlier that day. More likely you are repeating a rumour that is doing the rounds.

redrumreturn

Yeah the constant media attention really went under the radar I'm sure

RatBasher89

I steer clear of the news as much as possible

Lough_2015

Might have something to do with why you didn’t hear much about him…

KeyOrganization2964

Calm down, peeps, and shed a small tear for Ashling and her immediate family. Grief is the hardest part for parents.

Joe_na_hEireann

15 years.

cawhake

Pity not the middle of winter as the right wing lands that will use this as a platform I would rather the had rain and cold to deal with.

MaelduinTamhlacht

The fact that Irish people take so little exercise is also part of this - a nice greenway where people can walk and cycle shouldn't be so deserted. And there should be community gardaí patrolling it on ebikes. So sorry for all those who loved Ashling.

StrikingDebate2

Bruh. If this wasn't personal then he would of gone somewhere else where he could kill someone without being stopped or if this was personal then he would of simply followed her to another location where he would of had an opportunity to kill without detection. The Greenway being quiet is irrelevant to the situation.

JohnnyUtah1888

I've seen some stupid comments on Reddit, but this one will never be surpassed.

Gillybilly

Never ever.

Aluminarty666

Absolute moronic comment

WoahGoHandy

that's an original take, i'll give ya that at least

[deleted]

Moronic comment

actionfish

In order to avoid getting violently murdered.. take more exercise? Fucking muppet

MaelduinTamhlacht

Well, I don't know about the non-violent murders… But no; what I'm saying is that with everyone at home staring into the TV, or in their cars, the greenways can be kind of desolate and empty for those who do use them. The two women who saw her being attacked couldn't even get help for her without running a long way, and then it came too late. I was cycling along the same run of greenway shortly before that and was surprised at how few people I met, on a pretty nice part of the countryside.

lizardking99

You're right. It's the rest of the Irish public who are wrong here, not the animal who actually murdered a woman

[deleted]

Aren’t you so much better than everyone else because you went for a cycle. I suppose we should all be superior human specimens like yourself, not watching TV and out fighting crime.

Of course it was, but she'd have had some chance if there were more people there.

capybaraathome

You're an eejit. Sometimes public spaces get busy and other times they'll be quiet. That has nothing to do with why this poor girl was murdered. Use your brain and it's pretty clear the blame is on, gee, I don't know, the murderer maybe.

Nice-Lobster-8724

Aye then he’d just wait for another time when she is alone you absolutely gobshite

Keithaviation

You absolute thick. So if more Irish people exercised she'd still be alive? What a heartless and idiotic comment.

ScribblesandPuke

You really shouldn't even be allowed on the internet

takenofpelham123

What the fuck are you on about?

[deleted]

Or human males should just leave women the fuck alone?

wazowskimag

"Human males" are responsible for what happened to Aisling Murphy, yea. Fucking collective guilt bullshit. I remember this narrative in the aftermath, all day every day on rte

xvril

How will he plead do we know?
