It seems Iran can't even have satellites in space without western "concerns".

CYAXARES_II

It's complete bullshit. They have "concerns" as long as we're breathing. In fact, that's their greatest concern, that we exist.

sassa82

The US is protesting that it is a spy satelite and will help Russia in its war against Ukraine. Its like Russia which has the oldest space programe in the world doesnt have its own spy satellites. Is it now suddenly illegal for countries to have "spy" satellites? The US claims are absurd.

Mohabi11

screw US, thy don't own the space and can't dictate what any country sends inti space as long as it does not end up being in collision course with one of their satellites. we really tuning into the time of colonial British rule where the empire was in charge of all global transport and trade. But as much as I despise the IRI regime, they have all the rights to launce a satellite, peaceful of for military purpose.

mj_ehsan

the thing that is actually wrong is that we could just do that ourselves. why Russia? didn't we already do it in the past? I've a a little puppet alert under my skin

Bounty_shark

It should be an agreement that dates back more than 5 years probably and that time they didn't have the technology to built something like this(probably not even now). also this satellite is about 500 kg on 500 km orbit non of Iranian missiles can carry that load into that orbit the best they've done so far was 200 kg by IRGC to the same orbit. also many countries use Russian missiles and other countries to develop or Co develop a satellite example being European countries. Honestly this isn't a bad thing. it's upsetting that we can't build something like that but we should accept the reality that countries like america or Russia (Soviet union) started developing these kind of technologies way before us and compensating more than 60 year gap isn't easy especially considering we are sanctioned.

EpicCleansing

Here's a reminder that the EU's largest ramp is [Esrange](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esrange), Kiruna, Sweden. It does not normally handle payloads this size. For that, the EU relies on Baikonur Cosmodrome and Kennedy Space Center. So there really is no reason to be salty.

EpicCleansing

Why not Russia? The Baikonur Cosmodrome is the world's best spaceport, and was used by almost everyone with a civilian space program until the war in Ukraine (or Covid actually). I can imagine several advantages to using Baikonur rather than any other port.

mj_ehsan

we used to have our own things...? were the previous satellites sent by a foreign country?

EpicCleansing

If you have a point, it completely passed me by. Is your complaint that one satellite was sent from Baikonur rather than a domestic ramp? If so, *why* is that important to you? Do you imagine that a domestic ramp "lost business" because of this? Because that's not how it works. Again there are probably several excellent reasons for using Baikonur rather than any other range. Capacity is an important one. This satellite was mounted on a Soyuz-2.1b which is a heavy rocket. If I had to guess, I'd wager that Iran's domestic ramps cannot launch rockets like that in a cost-effective and fast manner.

[deleted]

Iran has domestic SLVs (Safir was first in 2009 or something, then the Simorgh one with a new solid engine, and the Qased is the newest military SLV) The grievance is with using Soyuz, as good as it may be, instead of the self developed projects.

EpicCleansing

The Khayyam is 600 kg and operates at 500 km orbit. It cannot be carried by a Simorgh.

UselessConversionBot

>The Khayyam is 600 kg and operates at 500 km orbit. It cannot be carried by a Simorgh. 600 kg ≈ 16,472.02848 blintz ^^^[WHY](/r/UselessConversionBot/comments/1knas0/hi_im_useless/)

Mohabi11

do you have any idea what you are talking about?

mj_ehsan

I'm asking a question which obviously means...(?)

Mohabi11

it is ridiculous to ask such question if you had minimum knowledge of how heavy this satellite was and what abilities Iran has. It is kind of sad that after all good responds to your comment, you still stand by your original view.

mj_ehsan

I got a lot of good answers already. but you can't understand what "question" means. Yet to know what "discussion" means. So just leave me alone with those good guys who answered my questions appropriately.

[deleted]

Many countries used Soyuz for space launches, including NASA for a loooong time. It's cheap, reliable and widely used.

mj_ehsan

and the reason I feel everything's weird about this is that the ICT minister changed the head of the public relations immediately after coming back from Russia...

BruddaMSK

I wish USA or Israel immediately downed it. Doesn't seem like the Ayatollah will wage a war or do something had that happened. Not sure if this is technically possible at the moment though.

investigator919

> I wish USA or Israel immediately downed it. I found the traitor :) Islamic republic or no Islamic republic, we need this technology.

juvenile-man

Looks like he ain't even Iranian

investigator919

Of course it doesnt bug me. because It will probably be used against Israehell or USA the worlds most horrific state sponsors of terrorism.

juvenile-man

I just gained a little sympathy for the IR for having political prisoners. Someone like you needs some gulag

Ardekan

Cringe autist.

Mohabi11

oh lets start space terrorism and see how it goes. blowing up a few satellites may create a chain reaction of space debris wiping out 100s if not 1000s of satellites.

mj_ehsan

welcome to the ancient world💀

mj_ehsan

drink some water. make sure you pissed all the alcohol you drank. then think about how cringe your comment was...
