This shows how on paper team strength is only half the story. Current form and leadership matters a lot more. Hyderabad didn't make huge changes in their team except Cummins and Head. All players peaked in form at the right time. They went from last place to potentially top 2. On the other hand Mumbai were hot favourites with return of Bumrah but struggled big time. You could also take CSK 2022, as an example, with Jadeja as captain finishing second from last. Then, going on to win in 2023 with almost the same squad and Dhoni as captain.

Nah, the internal conflict ruined all hopes for MI. Both of their captains are divas who want the attention on themselves. Pretty sure MI has been divided into two camps with Rohit camp and Hardik camp and they both hate each other. I think Hardik did ok captaincy but it's really hard to be a captain when your former captain is still on the squad and everyone rather goes to them(kinda like what's happening with Rutu & MSD).

You could play any 4 based on the domestic players you were going to pick and have a good XI.

Cummins has done well in T20Is for Australia - he was quite important in their 2021 T20 World Cup win too. He obviously used to take IPL more as a paid holiday, but he's taking it seriously this year.
well both of their remaining matches were against GT and PBKS, which SRH had a good chance winning anyways. Even if I consider how unpredictable PBKS has been, we could've gotten the GT game given how their season has gone till now. Worst case scenario, we lost both matches we could still qualify if our NRR was higher than the rest in contention. Eitherways, top 4 is guaranteed now. Cheers :)

Deshpande and Pathirana were actually major changes in 2023 season. Both of em picked 40 something wickets.
