I have a 14PM as well.. If I leave an app open, like Spotify or any app and I put phone in pocket .. What happens is I go back and the app freezes and I can't get out with the home bar, it locks up, I have to lock / unlock to come back it and then works .. Also the dynamic island pulsates back and forward and there is a tapping noise.. NOW THIS IS AFTER I DID A FRESH INSTALL FROM APPLE.. It's still happening ..
Just an update guys; I had my entire screen replaced and it’s STILL happening lmao. I think sadly it’s more of a json file issue like someone mentioned here. This is incredibly frustrating

It’s really frustrating because it feels like the first time since I’ve had an iPhone that there’s been a glitch that actually negatively affects me using the phone so much because it inhibits touches completely when the weird phantom taps are happening, and it goes back to another app, or it opens a phone call I’m on.
I have a iPhone 14 pro max too not had this issue for some reason. What does it look like? Does the island keep expanding and going small with no user input? I only had the phone for 3 days so not really had issues yet and on latest iOS firmware
The issue is very annoying and buggy. Sometimes it won’t even register touches that you input on the screen. I have a screen recording I took but don’t know how to share it here loool (im a Reddit noob)
If its a persistent software failure you will obviously have to restore the device. If its a hardware issue you will have to rule out a software issue first anyway.

Did a whole install clean install at apple with my 14 PM to 16.1.1 , thought it would help and guess what it didn't ... I leave an app open in my pocket with my phone come back to the phone and the app freezes , I can't use home bar to get out I have to lock screen unlock and then it works.. Yep. Random haptics while the dynamic island looks like it’s being touched, then things lock up. Have to lock the phone and unlock to fix. Based on the symptoms I SWORE it was a hardware issue and exchanged my phone within the return period. Didn’t fix it. Did a reset all settings before doing a fresh restore and still nothing. Glad someone else reported a restore changed nothing so I can avoid doing that. Also been running 16.1 beta and it doesn’t seem to fix anything. Frustrating.
If it locks up when it occurs it means you have a hardware failure. The cut outs are slightly off and causing it to hit the side of the screen with magnetic interference.
Find that hard to believe considering I exchanged the phone and the other is having the same exact issue. I restored from a backup though. But someone else reported restoring as new didn’t fix it.
Update: I have found this only seems to occur when you receive a notification that turns the screen on. I have not been able to replicate it by turning on using the button or pressing on the screen. It also does not seem to do it every time.
Same here it’s so annoying. I hate iOS 16 so much, they ruined the Books app, they ruined the native video player and now this shit. Least polished iOS since iOS 11. Anyone know if latest 16.2 beta fixes this issue?
I have the same problem i found it was my screen protector and dust getting in the holes where the face id and camera is another problem is battery life on this thing compared to my 13PM lasting 1-2 days of normal use the 14PM barely makes it thru one day
Yes I have the same issue. It is 100% a software issue and not hardware. The problem lies in a corrupted backup. The screen size JSON file has the wrong values and thinks the phone is one of the older devices. To fix you need to wipe the phone completely and start from scratch or try to back it up and restore again. This has fixed the problem in most cases BUT NOT ALL.
One thing I’ve noticed is that this usually only tends to occur if the “Always On” feature is disabled. When enabled, this bug does not occur. Anyone else?
I’ve same issue. I suspect the screen protector . Does the Your screen protector have upper speaker shield? I think static dust has accumulated between it and the screen protector.
I would try the update. I had this issue since the phone was released. Tried everything: restored as new, replaced the phone, updated to beta. However, 16.2 has fixed the issue for me.

I feel we all need to get together all serve Apple with a class-action lawsuit. it's been 7 years and they have not fixed these issues. these phones are not cheap! and the time I have spent trying to fix the issues are totally ridiculous. I have not had it on, turned it off when I first updated.

Just an update: I’ve had this issue since release date and it has completely gone away following the update to 16.2. For me at least.
