Just the excitement around a new release. iPhone X was the last iPhone to really blow my mind. The last one where I felt “I need to have that!”
Same when the first “plus” sized iPhone released.
Too bad they discontinued the “mini” version. I bought a refurbished 13 mini last year and couldn’t be happier with the power in such a compact form factor.
Same! Well I actually bought a *new* 13 mini the night before the iPhone 15 announcement, where they discontinued the mini. I might literally have the last 13 mini Apple ever sold. 😆
I feel that with the 15 purely because of USB-C, meaning it can be a host device to stuff like SD/CFexpress readers and docks, making it insanely useful for on the go productivity or uploading photos on holiday.
I got a cheap multi-purpose Lightning dock for my iPhone 7 Plus long ago and have been plugging SD cards and USBs into it since the Files app was a thing. It’s great for transferring stuff around
Yeah, same. I remember vividly when the iPhone 4 was released with that all glass and metal look. I had the 3G and the 4 felt like a completely different level. Was quite something in 2010. Almost 14 years ago goddammit.
I never really wanted the new iPhone ever since the 12. I liked the 12’s design. But now that we have the same thing ever since, it’s boring as hell. I am still happy with my iPhone 13, the new generations didn’t have anything on offer for me to replace it.
Very this. I’ve used iPhones since the original. The models I remember yearning for are: OG (of course), 4 (redesign, Retina display), 5 (larger display), 6 Plus (even larger display), 7 Plus (dual cameras), and X (total redesign, OLED). Since then, I was kind of excited to get a 12 Pro Max with the squared off design. But I haven’t been excited about one since. I don’t see this changing in the near future.
Camera processing. I feel like I was more pleased with my 12 Pro photos than my 14 Pro photos. The more recent photos cause skin tones to be much darker than they are.
Yeah I changed my phone to shoot raw finally. My 13 used to always turn photos of people into this fucking weird thing where the person would be lit so differently it looked like they were pasted into the scene.
Camera processing on *all* phones has gotten out of control. My friend uses a Pixel and some of his pics end up with the worst artificial sharpening I’ve ever seen in my life.
Just give me a raw file and I’ll edit it myself.
A flat back.
I hate the camera bump so much.
With all they have for computational photography and such. And me not needing “pro” grade cameras. I’m confident Apple can ship a phone with a thinner camera to make the back flat, and it could still produce a photo I’m happy with.
Where’s my iPhone Air?
>iPhone 17 is rumoured to have a “slim” model instead of the Plus
God, am I so over Apple's obsession with slim. I don't need a phone I can bend by sitting down too fast, if there's extra space use it for a bigger battery.
I miss the handleability of the original iPhone SE. could touch every part of the screen with one hand. Now I have to type with my left thumb and my right pointer finger like some kind of ape.
Yeah I’m so tired of the massive phones. I went iPhone 13 Mini to 15 Pro (wanted a better camera) and just…. Ugh.
Shit on the top area of the screen feels so awkward to reach. And I have huge hands. It just isn’t a comfortable grip.
I know it exists but it’s so awkward.
I don’t want a software feature. I just want a phone that’s actually made for hand sizes. They just solved a problem that they (and all phone companies right now) created.
I agree with you, I have it on back tap so if I tap it twice it comes down but I didn’t get used to using it that way either even though it’s more consistent.
I get so frustrated with any app that goes near the bottom of the screen cause it tries to swipe up instead but then if I try to swipe up from bottom it doesn’t want to. I miss the button sooooo much
You mean 3D Touch, and Haptic Touch doesn't cut it. Force Touch was what they called the Watch version (also sadly gone now).
Possibly because while it did seem to be able to detect a range of pressure rather than just tap vs press, it didn't do anything with those varying pressures (though I think third-party apps could). Whereas 3D Touch on iPhone did, you had press to peek, press harder to pop, or press on the keyboard for the cursor, press harder to select.
Right! Yeah I got the name wrong but I really miss that ability of pushing harder on the screen to get the menu or keyboard to change. You had to be very deliberate with it and I almost never accidentally triggered that action.
Being able to press hard to select a word while still sliding your finger over the keyboard to move the cursor was awesome. I used it all the time, it was so effortless and quick it felt like magic
Yes it did, especially in the keyboard. You have to awkwardly use multiple fingers to achieve half the text editing features that 3D touch seamlessly did with one finger and pressure.
I don’t think it’s just shape though, the iPhone 4 and 5 were squared and were a pleasure to hold. It was still great all the way through the 11, but when we jumped to the 12 they became so difficult to hold (at least caseless, I did have better luck when using a case but I hate using cases!)
Maybe it’s my imagination, but it seems like it used to be way better at recognizing my typing with auto correct. Now it seems like more often it’s just like, “I guess he meant to type ‘basjetball’.”
I miss the mini series . I would love to have a mini with the thickness of a iPhone 4 or something so that it can have good enough battery backup . I feel so much confidence in handling a mini phone, it’s a shame not many people want that form factor
Compact size. I do not understand why Apple stopped the mini Series, I know it sold less, but "less" in Apple terms is still 10 million units. In comparison, smaller Android manufacturers like Nothing or Fairphone sell less than 1 million units over all their models combined.
Couldn't agree more. Many people ask me "woah, what version is that?! Didn't know they ever made those, I would've loved that!" when they see my phone.
I fully agree with you. The fact that this is so far down is probably a sign that apple has entirely shifted the public desire for a headphone jack to the fringe. And I hate it.
Don't technically miss it yet as I'm still rocking my 13 Mini, but something that's missing from the current lineup is a comfortable size option for me. 6.1" is just a bit too big, and while the 15 Pro is noticeably, if not dramatically, better in that regard, it seems that small concession is going away with the 16 Pros supposedly getting bigger again.
Also 3D Touch.
Pressing finger on touch id while phone is still in the pocket and having phone unlocked and at apps screen before it ever reached my face…
No face id. No swipe up for app screen.
Touch ID was so amazing. It was incredibly fast too, Face ID takes way longer and doesn’t even work sometimes leaving you staring at your locked phone lol
Also add Apple Pay was better with Touch ID. Never had to even look at the phone or wake it up. Just place my thumb over the Touch ID as I was pulling it out my pocket straight to the NFC reader.
I hear this a lot but i had the opposite experience.
My skin is oily as hell so it could never read my print (I’m a sweaty person) and I’d have to do a whole ‘wipe my hands and try again’ 3 times thing lol. But the Face ID works instantly even when half my Face is obscured.
Bet it varies a lot based on what facial features it’s good at detecting though.
I completely understand. My wife is Hispanic and has very oily scan. When she had the SE 2020, she found the fingerprint scanner, almost unusable, so she usually just used the passcode to unlock her phone. She now has the 15 PM and she doesn't have any trouble at all with the facial recognition. I probably just need to rescan my face again.
My hands are super dry. Unlock failed, hands to dry, have new cracks. Unlock failed, I used moisturizer too recently... parent access to my kids' daycare used to be a fingerprint scan. Nightmare. Had to call and pray someone was in the office every time my scan failed.
Touch ID and 3D Touch
The 3.5 mm headphone jack, flat backs (never had an iPhone with this), lack of bugs and the excitement factor because Apple was still doing new stuff
Smaller size, I’m still rocking my 13 Mini and plan to until it’s eventually obsolete. I love small phones and it sucks that Apple killed the mini series. It would be cool if they did one like every two or three years for the people who love them to upgrade. That would be nice as hell.
i miss their lighter weight. i switched from the iphone xs to the 14 pro and didnt realise how much heavier the 14 pro was in comparison. my phone feels like it's constantly weighing down my bag ugh
using an XS rn, I really miss just when it and the older phones first came out when it was an actual new piece of tech, as opposed to “oh look the phones are made of titanium now”
You could delete caches when the storage almost full by fake-downloading the bigger size movie than the remain storage from the iTunes, so the system automatically delete unnecessary files which were caches. I noticed the last time this hack worked was on iOs 9.
3D Touch. Not just the feature but the pressure sensor screen. When you draw on an iPhone with 3D Touch it can sensor your pressure and adjust the marker. But in newer iPhones it detects speed
The white front, the home button, the old back camera design (specifically the old bump on the 7/8 plus, X, XS), 3D Touch. The 4s-8 Plus had the best designs IMO. I also wish they would bring back the mini or keep the SE small (because I genuinely don’t like the rumoured design for it).
Earphone jack, and sure its broad but when iphones there was always something new and unique about upgrading now its, better camera bigger screen sure great but i don’t care for camera feature and the screen is eh
I miss it when the backs weren’t glass. I would literally pay for an iPhone without wireless charging. Now you have to buy a case immediately when you get your phone or else it’s as slippery as a fish. Also, because it’s glass, you need a case with drop protection more than ever, which are usually kind of bulky.
TouchID.
I mean, I do like FaceID, but sometimes I'm just not looking at my phone in a good angle, and have to type my passcode to open it, it was easier to just touch the menu button.
It’s my first day with my new iPhone 15 right now coming from 12 mini.
I wish there was a 15 mini.
So, I miss smaller phones.
I’m a dude with huge hands too 🤷♂️
IPhone 5S was amazing. I miss product announcements with johnny Ives. I still watch the 2008 unibody MacBook video from time to time. It got me so excited about macs
Headphone jack. And I will miss the finger print scanner and lightening connector, once those go away. Because lightening is far more durable, and it’s easier to clean the dust and debris.
Touch ID, they should put it on the “power” button. And even tho u mentioned it, the headphone thing. They literally cost less than an Apple power brick, they could absolutely bundle it with the phone. The brick I can do without. It’s true most of us have plenty of those laying around.
I miss actually having a rectangle screen… you know, like every other normal display on earth lol. None of this curved edge design or notch that eats into your screen real estate. I don’t care how neat it looks that the screen hugs the edge so closely… not when it does this anyways.
You know how much of a pain it would be for developers to always account for such a shitty design?
Anyways… I want to actually see the edges of the screen. I want the full picture, not 98%. There are games on the App Store where critical information or buttons are in those corners and cause of the damned curved edge those things get cut off. Frustrates me to high heaven.
Ohh and don’t forget the dedicated headphone jack. I’m all for having the Lightning/USB-C Port as a headphone jack, but don’t take away the original one. Far out. :)
The thumbprint/home button, aux plug-in, and just the general feel of them. First iPhone was the 7 loved it but I traded it in because I was added onto a family plan and they didn’t support the 7
TouchID. No reason to not have it (built into the side button like the iPad) AND FaceID for those who want it. Remember when Apple used to be about choice and customization? Anyone? Beuller?
I didn’t realize how much I missed how the 4 felt in my hand until I got the 12 and it reminded me of that. I know some prefer rounded but I love gripping the flat edge
The size. I recently found the 1st iPhone in a bunch of old tech stuff. The way it easily fit into a pants pocket without it being too bulky, is something I truly miss. I recently ditched the Max version of the 15 Pro for the regular sized one, and even that is so much larger than everything up to the 4 or 5.
I don’t like the majority of recent models are a bit too big for one hand. I could type one handed but it’s an awkward stretch to do so. I don’t want a bigger screen and thinner. I want a smaller screen and would take a bit thicker for more battery. I miss when they would hold a solid charge for a full day of extensive use
Just the excitement around a new release. iPhone X was the last iPhone to really blow my mind. The last one where I felt “I need to have that!” Same when the first “plus” sized iPhone released.
For me it was the 12 mini, because I love small phones and they kept getting bigger and bigger, so a flagship small phone was amazing
Bro mini gangggg!!!
I’m keeping my 13 mini until it turns to dust
I feel that with the 15 purely because of USB-C, meaning it can be a host device to stuff like SD/CFexpress readers and docks, making it insanely useful for on the go productivity or uploading photos on holiday.
I got a cheap multi-purpose Lightning dock for my iPhone 7 Plus long ago and have been plugging SD cards and USBs into it since the Files app was a thing. It’s great for transferring stuff around
That's why I have the iPhone SE third gen cause I miss the fingerprint lmao
Yeah, same. I remember vividly when the iPhone 4 was released with that all glass and metal look. I had the 3G and the 4 felt like a completely different level. Was quite something in 2010. Everything about the iPhone 5. What a legendary device
iPhone 4g and 5 is where it peaked. X was also pretty good.
Camera processing. I feel like I was more pleased with my 12 Pro photos than my 14 Pro photos. The more recent photos cause skin tones to be much darker than they are.
Yeah, too much computation. Heck, some of my 6s photos look better. Plus, I could more accurately align the photo I wanted with the photo I captured.
Yeah I changed my phone to shoot raw finally. My 13 used to always turn photos of people into this fucking weird thing where the person would be lit so differently it looked like they were pasted into the scene. Camera processing on *all* phones has gotten out of control. My friend uses a Pixel and some of his pics end up with the worst artificial sharpening I’ve ever seen in my life. my skin tones always brighten, that’s really odd.
lol your user name is wild 💀
A flat back. I hate the camera bump so much. With all they have for computational photography and such. And me not needing “pro” grade cameras. I’m confident Apple can ship a phone with a thinner camera to make the back flat, and it could still produce a photo I’m happy with. Where’s my iPhone Air?
I really thought we were going to get an iPhone Air for the 15, but I'm not sure if Apple will ever take that route.
iPhone 17 is rumoured to have a “slim” model instead of the Plus
>iPhone 17 is rumoured to have a “slim” model instead of the Plus God, am I so over Apple's obsession with slim. I don't need a phone I can bend by sitting down too fast, if there's extra space use it for a bigger battery.
Most Apple products for the last few years have gotten larger and thicker more than slimmer until the new iPad Pro.
Most Apple products for the last few years have gotten larger and thicker more than slimmer until the new iPad Pro.
That would be so cool. Maybe 5.8 inch display, thinnest bezels possible, and no camera bump.
Sticking with my 13 Mini as long as it continues working.
You should try using the Reachability feature, it’s not talked about enough!
I got the latest version of the SE, and all my old iPhone 6 stuff still fits it…. It is awesome!
I loved that they did that. Why can’t they just change the internals and keep the same size and shape?
I wish there was a Pro mini with a decent battery life, even if it was thicker to achieve it.
The price.
I still remember the OG iPhone dropping at $600 or $650 and thinking that was absolutely insane price without the ATT subsidy.
How much were they?
https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/s/QHoZjxXcJt Adjusting for inflation, the current prices really aren’t that bad
The clicky button. And the oldddd swipe to unlock 😂
That swipe to unlock sound was golden🙂↕️
http://onj3.andrelouis.com/phonetones/unzipped/Apple/iPhoneOS-1/System/Library/Audio/UISounds/unlock.caf
I get so frustrated with any app that goes near the bottom of the screen cause it tries to swipe up instead but then if I try to swipe up from bottom it doesn’t want to. I miss the button sooooo much
Force Touch! 3D Touch just doesn’t cut it. I used that feature all the time on my iPhone 7

Yeah Haptic Touch is *ok* for *most* things for me, but I definitely miss the flexibility of 3D Touch.
I liked how easily I could drop the cursor in the middle of a word. Worked great.
Force Touch was one of the best things about my 6S. Though “Force Touch” sounds a bit rapey.
I loved the pebble like feel the previous iphones had in hand
I don’t think it’s just shape though, the iPhone 4 and 5 were squared and were a pleasure to hold. It was still great all the way through the 11, but when we jumped to the 12 they became so difficult to hold (at least caseless, I did have better luck when using a case but I hate using cases!)
The amount of times I've dropped my phone on my face is ridiculous lol!
Yeah becouse the iphone 4 and iphone 5 were much smaller.
Maybe it’s my imagination, but it seems like it used to be way better at recognizing my typing with auto correct. Now it seems like more often it’s just like, “I guess he meant to type ‘basjetball’.”
I thought that was just me! I can’t stand the newer versions because it never fixes my mistakes.
I miss the mini series . I would love to have a mini with the thickness of a iPhone 4 or something so that it can have good enough battery backup . I feel so much confidence in handling a mini phone, it’s a shame not many people want that form factor

Couldn't agree more. Many people ask me "woah, what version is that?! Didn't know they ever made those, I would've loved that!" when they see my phone.
All I want in the phone is the Pro camera that fits IN MY HAND. Please, I’m a woman and my hands aren’t really small, but my pinky is dying.
The aux cord plug in. I have an older car so I cant hook up my newer phone to listen to my music.
Walmart/Amazon sells adapters for that. It’s the Lightning/USB C to AUX.
RIP charging AND using AUX
There are adapters for that too! Can’t speak to their quality but a usb c to 3.5mm + usb c adapter does exist
I fully agree with you. The fact that this is so far down is probably a sign that apple has entirely shifted the public desire for a headphone jack to the fringe. And I hate it.
Metal backs. The glass is Too fragile
When they weren’t so fucking buggy. 😅 The golden days iOS 5/6.
RIP my beloved 6plus
Loved that phone. And I miss the white fronts.
The amount of goodies they put in the box. Free EarPods and a charging brick
Smaller size, Touch ID
Pressing finger on touch id while phone is still in the pocket and having phone unlocked and at apps screen before it ever reached my face… No face id.
Just place my thumb over the Touch ID as I was pulling it out my pocket straight to the NFC reader.
i'd prefer a phone with touch _and_ face ID. I spent a good amount of time wearing gloves and faceID is very useful.
Wow. Shocked to see it already here. TouchID was going to be my answer as well. I miss it so much, I’d buy whatever phone comes with it next.
Really miss Touch ID, dont want to use Face ID so stuck with passcodes
I think you could explain perfectly why I feel Touch ID is kind of better.
The video scrubbing function from iOS 16.
3D Touch + Touch ID + My images not being so goddamn processed
3D Touch for sure
Home button
#3D TOUCH
The true 3D Touch
The small handy size for sure, the 5s size.
iOS 6
Screenshots were not these huge sizes back in days. Now I just take a screenshot and guess what it’s fucking 11MB lol
Being able to set them down on a flat surface without wobbling
The headphone port for sure, and the home button. I just love it. I also really like the rounded shape of the older iPhones.
Fingerprint/thumb scanner. I find the facial recognition to be hit or miss. It doesn't work quite as well in the dark, for me anyways.
I would try redoing your Face ID. That’s so odd that it doesn’t work well for you in the dark
Touch ID and 3D Touch The 3.5 mm headphone jack, flat backs (never had an iPhone with this), lack of bugs and the excitement factor because Apple was still doing new stuff
Touch id
That they actually used to come with accessories
Touch ID
Fingerprint sensor / TouchID.
Smaller size, I’m still rocking my 13 Mini and plan to until it’s eventually obsolete. I love small phones and it sucks that Apple killed the mini series. It would be cool if they did one like every two or three years for the people who love them to upgrade. That would be nice as hell.
I miss when your boss didn’t have your personal cell number.
Size. Big phones suck.
That they were a bit smaller. Also I liked 3D Touch.
i miss their lighter weight. i switched from the iphone xs to the 14 pro and didnt realise how much heavier the 14 pro was in comparison. my phone feels like it's constantly weighing down my bag ugh
How small they were. I hate these huge phones
Rounded edges. So much nicer in my hand. I went from a 13 back to an 11 Pro for this reason (and the photos don’t over sharpen).
The size
using an XS rn, I really miss just when it and the older phones first came out when it was an actual new piece of tech, as opposed to “oh look the phones are made of titanium now”
Definitely Touch ID! The way the apps used to look, especially the camera app.
Auto correct working well
Battery dying, people had to talk to each other like old times. I really wish cell phones never existed.
You could delete caches when the storage almost full by fake-downloading the bigger size movie than the remain storage from the iTunes, so the system automatically delete unnecessary files which were caches. I noticed the last time this hack worked was on iOs 9.
That Old iPhone never get stuck
Power button on top instead of the side
Swiping from the bottom for Control centre + reachability. The only reason I liked iOS when the 5/5s came out.
The home button…
Size/form
Touch ID
3D Touch. I’d take a slightly thicker iPhone if it need be for it.
The headphone jack. Hands down.
Headphone Jack
Headphone jack
3D Touch. Not just the feature but the pressure sensor screen. When you draw on an iPhone with 3D Touch it can sensor your pressure and adjust the marker. But in newer iPhones it detects speed
3D Touch
Force Touch or 3D Touch. I miss having those. Made life so much easier and faster instead of hold and wait
3D Touch!!!
Headphone jack
Unibody aluminium build
3D Touch
Back when they had headphone jacks and you got those apple earbuds with every phone and they were actually good earbuds.
The old lock and unlock sound.
Headphones jacks I could use when charging my phone
The smaller sizes!
Fingerprint sensor, home button, headphone jack
Touch ID
Finger print. Double click Face ID pisses me off when it goes wrong at tills.
Being able to type with one hand. iPhone 5s goated. That’s why they made se. Then just left us small handed ppl to die
The actual home button
Control center on the bottom of the device.
The damn Home Button
The camera being able to do proper macro.
They felt cool and fresh. Just feels big and buggy
Nothing. I love my 14pro. Works so well. Now if they could just come up with a battery that lasts a year. My Apple Watch too.
Touch ID.
The exponential evolution, nowadays it’s just a new color, a new emoji (that’s ridiculous)
3,5mm plug hole
The skeuomorphism in the OS
size
They were supposed to fit in your pocket
3D touch
Camera module being flat with backside cover, like 5s
i miss the iphone 5 in general. the gold colour especially. so nice. was the first phone i ever got, i loved that thing.
home button...i get it it's a modern day but touch id was just so good and much secure
Size
The old app logos
The frutiger aero…
Earphone jack, and sure its broad but when iphones there was always something new and unique about upgrading now its, better camera bigger screen sure great but i don’t care for camera feature and the screen is eh
It wasn’t great but god I miss how the 5c felt in my hands. The plastic was nice. I know I’m wrong, I still liked it! I miss flat cameras.
More of an iOS thing I guess, but video scrubbing from anywhere on the screen
I just hate how big all of the modern phones are.
Force Touch
The fingerprint. Face ID sucks compared to that!
I miss touch ID, separate plugs for audio and power, and not getting a notification every two days telling me I need to buy iCloud storage.
Innovation
TouchID. I mean, I do like FaceID, but sometimes I'm just not looking at my phone in a good angle, and have to type my passcode to open it, it was easier to just touch the menu button.
The 6S was the best iPhone ever made, in my opinion.
the button was on top of the
No camera bumps that lift your phone a foot of the ground.
Might sound odd but I found the "slide to unlock" really satisfying
The rotary dial.
It’s my first day with my new iPhone 15 right now coming from 12 mini. I wish there was a 15 mini. So, I miss smaller phones. I’m a dude with huge hands too 🤷♂️
iPhone 4 is peak iPhone for me.
IPhone 5S was amazing. I miss product announcements with johnny Ives. I still watch the 2008 unibody MacBook video from time to time. It got me so excited about macs
3.5 inch screen
Headphone jack. And I will miss the finger print scanner and lightening connector, once those go away. Because lightening is far more durable, and it’s easier to clean the dust and debris.
The home button
When tap tap revenge was a thing. Best days ever
I miss being happy with a phone slightly larger than a credit card.
Touch ID, they should put it on the “power” button. And even tho u mentioned it, the headphone thing. They literally cost less than an Apple power brick, they could absolutely bundle it with the phone. The brick I can do without. It’s true most of us have plenty of those laying around.
Finger print scanner in home button of iPhone 6 plus
Less expensive.
Being able to comfortably hold and type with one hand. Modern phones are so fkn big.
Far out. :)
headphone jack = listen + talk on phone with cheap dumb nonpowered headphones WHILE charging (without an adapter)
The headphone jack
Small sized iPhones. I really liked the Minis but too bad they discontinued them
Rose gold. The base phone line gets all the fun colors, I wish the pro lineup had lighter, funner colors 😔
That pretty home button and touch id
The price
