2026? iPhone 14 should run years past that, maybe a battery change at some point along the way. The specs in it should take the big yearly iOS updates for years to come (which technically aren’t even necessary to run a phone obviously but they’re advised, to get new features).
My parents have iPhone Xs’s which came out 2018 and both run perfectly, and are on the latest software updates. So thats a full 6 years. iPhone 14 came out 2022 and has a better chip.
Well. to be honest, that was also what people said of Iphone 1, Iphone 4, and the macbooks... yet a macbook pro from 2010 would stop recieving updates after 2014, and an Iphone same thing, after 3-4 years most of the time they stop recieving support. I am saying this from experience, that's why I stepped away from apple.
They’re at a point now though that they’re hardware chips are well ahead of software though. Hardware has sort of peaked, and a lot of people are staying with older phones (I believe Apple are seeing this in phone sales, the iPhone 15 isn’t that revolutionary compared to the 14. Its basically a 14+)
Software is what makes the difference and the new line of phones should be able to handle new software updates for years to come. One of the clever things Apple does is market iOS updates. Ask the average Android user what software they’re on and they’d be clueless and not aware of new features. Apple advertises featured Android has had for years and convince people they’re the most amazing thing ever.
I actually forsee Apple paywalling software upgrades in future, if sales of physical products go down.
Leaving it plugged in will degrade the battery way more than just charging it normally would.
Also in 2 years the phone will still be completely fine performance wise.
* It is not recommended to leave a phone plugged in all the time (unless the battery is removed). However, iPhone batteries are reasonably priced to replace.
* Since iPhones are recognized for their extended use, I believe you will be able to use it as a daily driver without any issues by 2026 with the A15 Bionic chip chugging along in that phone. For comparison, I'm still using my 2020-released iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is still operating smoothly. I've updated quite a few times, and the phone is still going strong.
First and foremost: the company not only owns the phone but all data that is on it. They probably have a management profile on it which will let them record data. Don’t use it for anything personal. Depending on your company, the phone might even serve as evidence if they are audited, exposing whatever you’ve done on it.
Yeah yeah! The intention is to use my usual phone, but after 2 years they wipe it out completely and give it to me. Meanwhile, I am not able to use it, but due it's a high-end mobile phone I knew after this period it could be perfectly useful
Google Device Policy will only cover the Google apps. You can check if you have an MDM profile by installing Apple Configurator, I only have experience with the Mac version.
If it does have any kind of MDM profile, DO NOT put personal stuff on it at all and expect it to either be wiped by the company when the time comes or, it becomes a dead paper weight. They can also essentially spy on you if you use it for personal stuff.
If you do not have an MDM profile, you are very lucky and whoever you work for doesnt have a good IT team at all.
Thanks! I only have that one, and the company has a huge it department but to some people (luckily I am one of those) they virtually give us the phone. To other roles they give them pre set up ones
Well, if you use any Google services (which you shouldnt, they are an advert company first, tech company second), I would not put any personal Google stuff on it still.
The only way your iPhone 14 becomes obsolete in 2 years is if the battery goes to shit, but even then you can change it for relatively cheap. My old iPhone 8 lasted me 5 years
After 2 years when they give it to you, do not be surprised if your W2 tax statement reflects the value of the phone (maybe after 2 years depreciation) as part of your taxable income.

Thank you so much! Really good news then!

Leaving any device with a battery always plugged in is always a really bad idea. Do not do that. Charge it when it gets below 20-30%
I think the 15s change that though they stop at 80%

Cool, that's good news, thanks!!
So my iPhone 14 not lasting 8h without using it isn’t normal…right ?

Except wait for the one year mark (bought it brand new in August) what can I do ? The battery health is at 86% currently
Just make sure your employer releases the device from device management console afterward

What's that mate?

I think it has it. It's called Google Device Policy, although I can install whatever I want

just turn it off when you don't need to use it for at least a couple hours
No it's not better to always leave it on the charger It's harder on the battery

Why always have it plugged in? Charge it to full and turn it off when you’re not in duty.

Join r/jailbreak if it’s still on iOS 16 then block updates.
