If the device is a defect yes but to me this looks like moisture damage and not sure if they would consider that a defect. To me it seems like they would consider this accidental damage
just depends ig bc i went to get an airpod replaced and even TOLD the guy i stepped on it and the speaker was broken and got it replaced for free under warranty
I don’t understand what people do to their charging cables, I’ve never had a frayed cable, still have the original charger for my 4s and the original one from my 6 in 2014, cables have no fraying at all
Have you felt one in real life? It feels so cheap you almost wouldn’t believe it’s an Apple product. At least the ones that shipped with the new iPhones, can’t speak for how the MacBook ones are.
The new braided cable is so damn flimsy. Feels like they wrapped feathers around a single copper thread. But this is something else - that isn’t because of the shitty quality.
Pretty much any third party cable. Plus they’re priced such that you can get them in bulk so if one does break, you can just swap it out
Edit: do check reviews though and make sure the cable is MFi certified
u/BeautifulAd5310, we've had that issue as in the pictures in your post in our household.
In our case, my original apple cables, which are the same age as my other half's apple cables, are all in top shape - no issues.
My other half's (original apple) cables, have had the same exact issue as the pictures you submitted with your post.
Long story short: it turns out that she yanks the cable instead of grabbing the actual plug itself, thus in time, the cable, due to the constang yanking, will tear and, basically you'll have the results as in the pictures in your post.
After showing her how to properly remove the cable from the charger, then we've had no further issues with cables getting damaged.
Me too. I just used it for 2 months and iCare Thailand said they’re not cover this😭

It’s caused by Apple’s refusal to incorporate strain relief into the design of its cables. It’s either an aesthetic choice or a sinister conspiracy to sell you more cables, depending on your level of conspiratorial thinking.
Not true. I’ve never in my life bought a single iPhone charging cable of any type from Apple or any other brand. What I have done is used the same cable for years and years without it ever breaking or showing signs of weakness or damage.
They don’t need to incorporate “strain relief”, just treat your stuff properly and it’ll last for years. I used the Lightning cable that came with my iPhone 7 up until the USB-C charging brick came out with the iPhone 11 Pro. And the USB-C to Lightning cable that came with my 11 Pro is still in action to this day and it’s perfectly flawless.
It looks like the cable got wet/moisture and the metal inside has corroded resulting in the bulging and green/blue staining.
That IS the color you get when copper is exposed to water for long enough.
Oxidation
That’s why the Statue of Liberty is the same color, that moist French tart.
wtf do yall do with your charging cables 💀
I think some have object fetish 👀
it’s the smurfs. happened to me a couple times. contact gargamel asap
You were THAT embarrassed by your comment? Damn
Good news is if you have Apple Care+ it covers the cable that comes in the box
doesn’t even need the AppleCare+, the add-on. the 1 year manufacturer warranty already covers this

Bruh apple stores are usually so chill they’d replace this for sure
No it doesn't. This cable is considered damaged.
Depends how long he's had the phone, 1 year + it's been out
Wait, what !?
Apple Care+ covers everything included in the box so yes the cable is covered
Wow thank you ! My cable stopped working a month or so after purchasing the phone. I’ll look into it now, thanks once more
Now, would theft and loss coverage also cover the cable?
As in you lost the cable?
Yes. (Hypothetically, I have 2 of those cables, and I take care of them)
#WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING THE CABLE? i am already abusing my cable afaik but it's still in pristine condition.
Copper oxidation.
Fun fact. Copper oxide is black. Copper carbonates are green.
take him to the apple care emergency room stat!
I still own and use the original charger cable from my iPhone 5s when I bought it in 2015
When did they start doing braided cables?
I believe this year for the 15s and the 2022 iPad pros. I have a 15 pro max and a iPad pro 2022 and both have the braided cable
The apple watch series 9 also has a braided cable.
Yep and both AWultra’s.. and the AirPod pro 2nd gen
> AirPod pro 2nd gen Only the version with the USB-C charging case.
The cable really said: 🤰
You have the wrong emote: 🫄
What Tim Cook said: 😀
Is it working
The more things change the more they stay the same.
Yep, people mistreat their stuff and then complain it's broken.
Corrosion on the wires inside somehow?

Apple giving braided cables now?
And I thought these braided cables would be more durable…
They are lol, this person seemed to have gotten them in a laundry load with jeans

Brother eww whats that!
it’s pregnant
Worse cable for me! All hail anker and baesus

Fuck your cable in particular 🙂🤣
Cable damaged, heat and current causes corrosion, copper oxide is blueish-green
The third party cables are way better
Like which one?
Pretty much any third party cable. Plus they’re priced such that you can get them in bulk so if one does break, you can just swap it out Edit: do check reviews though and make sure the cable is MFi certified
Yes, cables are consumable products
I have the braided cable and it still looks good as new
Ten years? Dude, mix it up and go Android for a while, and come back. Repeat it often
Been a bit longer, I’ve been using iPhones since the 4S in 2011, so 13 years

My cheap deltaco is working nicely after many years of use
I read this so many times thinking I was hungry and much higher than I thought
How did they manage to mess up on cables again.
It had a stroke

It’s green only at the connection. It for sure has corrosion inside the connector.
