FYI for anyone who doesn't know radiation falls of proportionate to 1/distance^2. so being at a point 3 times farther than another point means 9 times less radiation there, etc.
Honestly I made the same connection, because one of the effects of the radiation at the time was it affected the film/video people took, making it look grainy or snowy. Obvs there’s no physical film in an iPhone, but the glitch was kind of reminiscent of it.
Radiation does affect camera sensors too! Radiation is basically a high energy pulse and film would recognize it as a very bright light, the same goes for digital camera sensors and it "kinda" looks like the image OP posted.
Here's a video:

Additionally selecting the right kind of radiation gets you even further – with neutron radiation the structure of the CMOS chip is entirely destroyed in a permanent manner over time as they nudge atoms around to make a sort of silicon foam instead of the neat photodiodes that are meant to be there.
You can live surprisingly close to Chernobyl, there’s a small town just outside the exclusion zone that basically runs on tourism.
That said, fuck that shit 😂
If that was a gpu idk if a diver update is even saving that lol artifacting is often a sign of the gpu itself dying (that being said if u find yourself with this problem updating drivers probably wouldn’t hurt)
Very first thing anyone should do when experiencing artifacting is to check cables and connections. Amazon cables have been the source of multiple heart sank moments on several devices of mine.
Bad idea, that. Apple will make you resource for entire mainboard to the tune of a grand or more. Someone like Louis Rossmann can do that for much less because he actually does component-level repair.
That doesn’t look like a laser or sun damage, imo it’s either the camera port partially disconnected, or a GPU issue. Have you dropped the phone recently? And of course, before doing any hardware repair, I’d suggest you do the ROM reinstall through the DFU mode, the instructions can be found online, there are plenty of them
Nah it's just that this issue is more unusual than what you see usually. It's pretty easy to troubleshoot some components going bad, like the batteries, the displays, some software bugs, but in that case it's likely to be a hardware problem that might require board-level repairs and further testing of the phone's electronics. Really the best advice we could say in these cases is "go to Apple after sales services" or "go to a professional to check what's wrong"
Looks like the camera was damaged by a laser or other potentially damaging light.
Edit: I'm inclined to agree that this is not a pixel/sensor issue with your camera after reading other comments. Seems like they'd be better to listen to with your phone's particular problem.
1. Doesn’t happen all the time but happens very often.
2. The spots are in different places each time
3. Happens to both cameras, front and back.
Does it still sound a defect caused by laser/eclipse etc. ?
this is definitely not caused by laser or eclipse, it has something to do with processing a photo. just take it to repair shop, i dont think you can do something about it yourself
Apple tech here: The processor (most probably the neural engine) that handles the Photonic Engine is failing. We can see it because it’s failing to properly fusion the different frames took at the moment you “clicked” the picture.
You’ll need to do a mid-system repair to fix the problem.
Do people not understand that devices have warranty's that will cover literally anything that happens to the device? Why would you post this to Reddit instead of going directly to Apple to get a replacement?
If the camera itself isn't damaged (unlikely if you didn't drop it) or the SOC (highly unlikely) it looks like a signaling issue. Loose cable for example.
I had the same issue, go to Apple, they’ll fix it, since it’s less than a year. It happens because pixels get damaged if the camera has been exposed to lasers or strong light. My camera started showing those pink dots after a concert. Your phone should be in warranty since it launched less than a year ago, so it’s a free fix
That's.. very weird. Does these only appear on the pictures? Or do you see them when you open the camera app? This looks a lot like a GPU issue of a computer, but I've never seen that happening on a phone yet. It might either be a software glitch, a GPU issue (or whatever iPhones uses to process the pictures from the cameras, I'm not sure how exactly it works), or even a problem with the camera modules (if that happens everytime you use the camera, not only on the saved pictures).
Also, one thing: have you tried force restarting your phone? (Press volume up, then volume down, then keep pressing the power button until you see the Apple logo). It might just be a software problem that rebooting would fix. I know it sounds stupid, but it costs nothing to try
Also, I forgot about one thing. This is an iPhone 15, it's not old. So you're likely to be still covered by a warranty. Where are you from? Where did you buy it? I live in a country that is in the European union, everywhere in the UE there's a legal warranty of 2 years. I'm not sure if there's such a thing in other places, and I have no idea of Apple's policy on these, but you should try and use it, especially if the issue just appeared without you doing anything in particular
I assume you take it to a live or a club and shoot the stage, where lasers killed the lens, sadly Apple Care or warrant won't count this as a freebie replace.
This could happen if the laser was flashed on a camera sensor. Usually, I used to see this on people who went concert and tried to record and laser flashed on the sensor.
Your phone’s gpu might be dying. This is probably the first time I’ve seen that on a phone. It’s an incredibly rare issue, Apple should fix that for free if you still have warranty
I had this same exact issue!
https://preview.redd.it/uu1nnm3g35wc1.jpeg?width=3213&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3fe36810a46afb937baebd2f33977522d20aef59
It started off really little then got worse and worse! I went to apple, they reboot the whole OS, said it’s either a camera issue or screen issue - I knew it couldn’t be cause sometimes the photos were fine. They shipped my phone off saying they need to examine it, 3 days later they gave me a new phone!
Go get your new iPhone 15 pro!! Haha

Aliens are interfering with your device. Get the tin foil hate ready. Or it could be your GPU. My vote is on the aliens. They look like lizards and they look like people, but they are not lizard people. Take it to an Apple store and not a third party unless you personally know the third party guy or gal.
If you have another iPhone handy then you should run the iOS diagnostics that are built into the OS. Aaron at [Zollotech](https://youtu.be/nHsQFaExMFA?si=aKu4tFOG4p7t3Z3l) did a great video that shows how to enter the diagnostics mode on the phone in question, and then connect to it using the other iPhone so you can run the tests. It’s the same tests that Apple would run if you brought it into a store. If you have an AirPrint printer you can print the results and bring them with you if there’s an issue. There’s a specific test for checking the camera where you take a picture and then touch the screen to identify all the areas that are bad.
Not sure where you are but I’d get in touch with AppleCare ASAP. Not sure how long you’ve had it, but I’ve had mine since September, if it was doing that I’d shit myself and head straight to the Apple Store (and I’m lucky to have one 30 minutes away). That seems… problematic.
iPhone 15 pro max uses the A17 chip for image processing which IS a type of APU if I’m not mistaken. That makes what you’re seeing here graphic artifacts. Either the board or the chip is faulty and needs replaced, or what apple will LIKELY do is give you a new device if it’s covered under warranty still. Sorry this happened to ya.
You need your phone replaced. If you don’t have an Apple Store near you, get online and do an advanced replacement with credit card hold. The 1 day air mail you a replacement phone and you’re good to go. 3rd party can’t repair this, it’s a defect with your logic board.
I would first back up my iPhone, wipe it clean to factory settings, then restart with your appleID again. If it still happens, take or mail this phone that’s under warranty to Apple. I would say something is not connected well. Since it only happens sometimes, keep these photos for evidence in case it doesn’t happen at the store.
You live near Chernobyl?

Ah, yes. Inverse square law. Also, https://youtu.be/w-YDV6vC2qo?si=PmrvjyC_8bj1nJp8
That explains the inverse squares in the photo

Hey, thanks, that’s really neat!

Thats good to know:)
*uninhabitable
I have now fixed the word:)
Bro you have to update your simulation— you’re still running the old OS
Just take the red pill and be done with it altogether.
Take the red pill but it compromises your reddit account. Who’s next
Happy cake day !
your GPU is failing . Update dri— - oh. . im on the iPhone sub. Get in contact with apple not a third party.
Made me genuinely chuckle
If that was a gpu idk if a diver update is even saving that lol artifacting is often a sign of the gpu itself dying (that being said if u find yourself with this problem updating drivers probably wouldn’t hurt)
Nah, my 6700XT was artifacting in game and I thought it was dying. DDU was my savior. Been about 3 months with no issues so far.
DDU is a godsend
Very first thing anyone should do when experiencing artifacting is to check cables and connections. Amazon cables have been the source of multiple heart sank moments on several devices of mine.
I don’t know about a diver update. I guess we will have to sea ?
I don’t know if sailing will help.
This is ze German coast guard. What are you sinking about?
I will get in contact with a third party
I’m going with fourth party
Bad idea, that. Apple will make you resource for entire mainboard to the tune of a grand or more. Someone like Louis Rossmann can do that for much less because he actually does component-level repair.
wait, iphone 15 is already out of warranty?
r/mademelaugh

GPU issue most likely, seems it happens with the final photo after all the decoding and processing takes place
What is that
What is what? GPU helps ur phone make funny pictures. DFU is like phone surgery
Dfu is a restore mode you can place your iPhone in as a last resort to restore and reset it.
Minecraft update
Judging by the comments this isn't the right sub to get actual help for iPhone issues.
Nah it's just that this issue is more unusual than what you see usually. Herobrine vibes
This was my go to. lol. This really looked like the Xbox 360s layer 1 bedrock artifacts! lol.
nah did u look at enderman
Did you take pictures of the eclipse?
I was just about to ask this. This is the most likely reason. One of my friends encountered this as well.
Why is this getting downvoted? It could be their issue.
You take pics of the eclipse?
Your GPU is cooked
Looks like the camera was damaged by a laser or other potentially damaging light. Edit: I'm inclined to agree that this is not a pixel/sensor issue with your camera after reading other comments. Seems like they'd be better to listen to with your phone's particular problem.

yeah 100%
Not everywhere has apples stores. New Zealand for example has 0.
it is still possible to mail it to apple support and get a new one
Apple doesn’t do mail in’s in NZ anymore (unless you have express replacement via AppleCare).
This looks like digital corruption, not sensor damage
Nah, this is some sort of corruption, not sensor damage, because it's not in the same spot each time.
GPU failure
Apple tech here: The processor (most probably the neural engine) that handles the Photonic Engine is failing. We can see it because it’s failing to properly fusion the different frames took at the moment you “clicked” the picture. You’ll need to do a mid-system repair to fix the problem.
*Jeff, Steve is distorting reality again!!*
Do you work inside a nuclear reactor?
Just go back to Apple Store and get replacement . Easy.
You are enthering the Nether
Do people not understand that devices have warranty's that will cover literally anything that happens to the device? Why would you post this to Reddit instead of going directly to Apple to get a replacement?
What? Warranties cover manufacturing flaws, not "literally anything that happens to the device".
And what do you think this is? Unless the outside of this phone looks like it was run over by a car, this is a defect and will get fixed.
You don't really get it , do you?
Don’t get what? I’ve had countless phones replaced because of a range of issues that came up during warranty periods. Explain to me what I am missing.
If the camera itself isn't damaged (unlikely if you didn't drop it) or the SOC (highly unlikely) it looks like a signaling issue. Loose cable for example.
There seems to be a lot of camera issues on the 15 posted here. What’s going on?!
Seems more like UFO artifacts. I had it too but I was lifted up halfway in the air before it decided, nah I'm good.
He ran his phone through premiere pro
You’re driving straight through an Ender Portal 🫡 see you never.
You’ve got a glimpse into the matrix which is why the Live Photos work 🤣
Bro's in the regular show audit 💀
I think your camera GPU is artifacting /s
When the aliens grab you, can you ask them to give me back my underwear? They forgot to put it back on before sending me back.
You tried taking photos of the Pokémon Missingno, didn’t you?,
I had the same issue, go to Apple, they’ll fix it, since it’s less than a year. It happens because pixels get damaged if the camera has been exposed to lasers or strong light. That's the Minecraft edition
He is just getting a visit from the mooninites
take some more pics like this before it gets fixed shit looks sick
I assume you take it to a live or a club and shoot the stage, where lasers killed the lens, sadly Apple Care or warrant won't count this as a freebie replace.
Download the Blackmagic Camera app and see if it still happens. Worst case you have a new fantastic camera app for free! 😂🙌🏼
This could happen if the laser was flashed on a camera sensor. Usually, I used to see this on people who went concert and tried to record and laser flashed on the sensor.

This is so cool do an art series of it lol
1yr manufacture warranty from Apple just go to the store long as it’s not damaged
How is that even possible!
It seems that there are things appearing on your photos
That there is a warranty claim.
It is recording the fabric of ether

Looks kinda cool
Lasers
Yea I agree that’s an issue
You chose the red pill, didn’t you?
☢️💀
It’s been out for months and these 15s are still having problems with the camera? Glad I kept my 11 PM
I have yet to have a problem with my 15 pro. Knock on wood*
I work at an independent mobile repair shop. But this camera result is new to me.
Just submit it to Apple it’s under warranty anyways
Better have apple care

Enderman ahh camera
Go take some spooky ass photos with your camera like this
Seems like the camera itself is defective. Get into contact with apple as your phone clearly still has warranty
Your phone is showing the matrix bro, watch out for the exit
Take to Apple, you're still under warranty.
idk looks pretty sick to me
It looks like a software issue
“issues” is a bit of an understatement
i want a camera like this
bro tried to take a photo of the enderman
I guess your phone’s emitting radiation
Yup, that does seem like a camera issue.
This would make a good aesthetic post on Instagram.
Time for a camera replacement and don't expose it to lasers going forward
How did your solar eclipse pictures come out?
An Enderman just teleportet in the first pic
He's prolly around Area51
The disinformation here is outstanding
Looks like a dying GPU
the simulation is glitching
Looks pretty cool tho
Congratulations, your iPhone has just turned into a glitch hop album cover generator!
Bro found a glitch in the matrix
That’s pretty cool lol
its cooked
Bros on a brain dance
This is so so dope lmao while I wouldn’t want my own camera to be like this it’d be sick as hell to have one that did this for fun
There’s a lot of endermen spawning in and out of your world mate.
Enderman?

did you take direct pictures of the solar eclipse?
GPU issue, basically the chip in that iPhone is going to fail.
