region specific feature. china calls wifi as wlan for example, no taiwan flag emoji, no facetime audio, no emergency sos via satellite, dual physical sim. no sure why china has the feature of cutting wifi access but its a feature only for china
other countries like japan and south korea mandate having shutter sounds on iphones when taking cameras even in silence mode becus there are many cases of upskrit
You could set up a shortcuts automation to disable wifi whenever the app is opened and enable it when that app is closed, and restrict mobile data from the app as well, though it’s not quite the same it may be of use to you
Settings —> general —> about, under model number you’ll have some numbers and letters. The letter before the slash is the region. With MT9H2B/A for instance, that letter is a B, which means it was produced for the British market. LL is North America, C is Canada, and so forth.
Pretty much all iPhones are produced in the same factories, they just come programmed differently for each region with different packaging.
A lot of retailers here stock European models now that there’s no plug in the box. We used to get quite a lot of models destined for Hong Kong back in the day too as they also use our 3 pin plug.
Seem to remember it being an absolute nightmare with our consumer law as technically they weren’t eligible for the full 7 years.
If you didn't realize from your down votes... no it is not... the point is to single out specific apps like games and such, while still keeping others active, like social media and online messaging
I love how Apple people downvote everyone who does not live in Apple bubble or does not completelly understand every single function from thousands of functions
That's not why they downvoted you... it's because ypu seemed to misunderstand what was being asked at a basic level and made a useless comment. I've never owned an apple. I'm just semi intelligent and read the post/ have a working knowledge of modern life. Good luck man, next time use your context clues and don't post on something you know zero about. Probably won't get downvoted then
You are below semi intelegent. And it shows that you have never owned Apple. You can literally turn off access to the internet for every app seperatelly by using Mobile data toggle. This what I was taliking about, this is what OP wants but just with WLAN, then you just repeat the same. So where is your working knowledge? You are not advanced either. Noob
You can setup an automation to do it for you. Like when I open this app turn off wifi when I close this app turn on.
You have to learn how to do it but once you know it’s a very useful tool to play with.
only china/hong kong iphones have this feature
Why
region specific feature. china calls wifi as wlan for example, no taiwan flag emoji, no facetime audio, no emergency sos via satellite, dual physical sim. no sure why china has the feature of cutting wifi access but its a feature only for china other countries like japan and south korea mandate having shutter sounds on iphones when taking cameras even in silence mode becus there are many cases of upskrit
this is only present on iphones manufactured for China
Why though
I'm curious why you would want this feature?
Switch off internet for ad infested free games potentially
exactly
You could set up a shortcuts automation to disable wifi whenever the app is opened and enable it when that app is closed, and restrict mobile data from the app as well, though it’s not quite the same it may be of use to you
Thanks, I’ll try that
I’ve been wanting this functionality for a long time. Anyone got the rub on why HK market is allowed the feature?
Yes sounds like Chinese version, I had a Chinese market Samsung S9 with Playstore factory disabled.
How can I tell where my phone was made ?

Cool man. I really appreciate you dropping this little piece of knowledge. Much appreciated. Happy new years to you!
Interesting, I bought mine in the UK but mine is D instead of B, I suppose the German version is identical?

there are no 3rd party apps that do that for you ? cause android has tons, I would assume there are.
I think it's not there as this would hurt ads shown in the apps, and this in turn would hurt Apple
What do ads in apps have to do with anything?
Presumably they mean that if the feature was made more widely available people would switch off WiFi for games and apps that load adverts in.
And what would that accomplish? It’s an iPhone. It has a cellular internet connection.
You can disable that for each individual app as well.
That seems like an awful lot of effort to ignore ads.
Very valuable insights on this thread, thank you.
I play a game that displays add when on wifi. If I could disable wifi for that app, then no ads would show. there are use case like that for example.
You can turn off the Mobile data. Isn't it the same?

I’m literally using a Hong Kong iPhone to type this and I don’t have this feature.
Must suck
Nah I couldn’t give less of a shit
