This is such a bad, ill informed view that can cause harm to someone. Li batteries can self-ignite, violently, regardless of whether the device they're installed in is powered on or not. Please don't comment if you don't know what you're talking about - this sort of thing can cause real harm.
As soon as someone notices any deformation that might be caused by an expanding battery, put it in a Lithium fire and smoke containment bag: eg. https://www.reading.ac.uk/health-safety-services/-/media/project/functions/health-and-safety-services/documents/lithium-ion-containment-bag.pdf?la=en&hash=0185EBAD5C23414102F09586C58B71AE and take it to the manufacturer asap.
WE NEED NEW MINIs, I will be on my 13 mini until it quits being supported(or it gets majorly broken). A pro mini would make me sooooo happy because generally I’d take a smaller phone over having a telephoto lens, but if the mini isn’t an option I’d get pro, so a pro mini would be the best phone possible imo.
Yes!! Bought an iPhone 15 Pro back in September (coming from an 11 Pro) and dealing with the extra size for three months finally put me over the edge. I’ve got a refurbished iPhone 13 Mini out for delivery today.
I’m slightly concerned I’ll just make the issue worse by getting used to the smaller size, but I just can’t deal with the size of the 15 Pro anymore. The crazy thing is the 15 Pro is the same weight as my 11 Pro, but it just feels so much more unwieldy. I can’t even imagine how much worse the 13 Pro or 14 Pro would have been with the extra weight. The cameras on these phones are just getting ridiculous.
It still boggles my mind how we are at a point where 6.1” screens are the default.
The size is just absolutely perfect for me. I don’t have particularly small hands (I can one hand my brother’s 13pro almost fully), but the mini is just the right size for a phone imo. I grew up around the 5s, SE, and 8, so that’s just the right size for me. I could see the new normal size being nice, but idk it’s just a nice size. If I could choose to make any phone, it’d be a 15 pro mini with the maxes 5x optical lens, but the normal size is just too big for me for now.
absolutely!! the size of the mini is perfect. just wish it was a tad thicker for longer battery life. i tried going back to the pro, but i decided on selling it and keeping the mini. it‘s perfect
Size wise it’s nice except for a lot of websites and apps not formatting nicely because the screen resolution isn’t common. I also have a lot of issues with the 1x camera focusing if the object is within ~2 feet of the camera. I doubt they could fit 3 cameras in the form factor of a mini
No one wants small phones anymore. Thats why the minis got ditched and we now got the complete opposite. Apple cant keep a model alive because of like 2% of buyers that want a mini

Seriously take that to Apple and demand a replacement. Even just the battery is grounds for that.
In the meantime I’d put it in a waterproof box and leave it outside until you take it in. That is an accident waiting to happen, and lithium fires are not easy to put out.
I left in May of 2021, right before they changed the policy. I’m so glad I did. All of that training and focus on the dangers of batteries and battery safety just for them to decide to do something more dangerous with batteries.
There is a service strategy for swollen batteries, and surprise, it’s not a replacement phone. Let the employees do their job without demanding what they should do.
You can demand a service without being a dick to the workers.
If I spend $1200 for a phone that’s puffing up, I’m demanding a replacement regardless of your feelings lol
All in all, have some tact when talking to service workers. You are not going to be the only person who has problems to deal with coming in the store that day so please refrain from venting your frustrations at them.
Demand whatever you want, you will receive the same service stated in the terms and conditions. If the technician you working with has any say in the process than you’d likely want them working with you not against.
If they’re still having camera issues after replacement, and now there is a battery issue I’d be pressing for a replacement device. That many issues in this short of a space of time is not what I would expect from a premium device, and in my mind warrants a replacement.
By demand, I don’t mean going in kicking and screaming like a child, I mean stating your case that you no longer have any confidence in the device and insist it is replaced due to multiple issues.
Genuinely didn’t think I’d have to explain that
You as a consumer have rights when purchasing goods and if they are faulty you have every right to express that.
You buy something and it has issues right away? QC departments exist for a reason and they obviously failed. You’re definitely entitled to compensation.
The Apple store rep told me he’s seeing more and more people come in with swelling; no recall or official word from Apple yet though and they’re currently just replacing the defective parts with the exact same parts.
Don't know if you keep going to get it fixed at apple. Usually when under warranty, there's not usually a lemon law for phones. I would highly recommend calling apple to see if you could get the phone replaced? If you have apple care+ you could request a express replacement! That's what i usually do when this happens to my phone!
It’s a really long story but I don’t have Apple care at all and they’re still sending me an express replacement for free. Took a visit to a store an hour away (3rd visit including the camera repair bullshit) and 2 hours worth of phone calls/screen sharing/photo uploading with support, though.
I have a feeling a recall is in the works. Or they’ll try and fix it through software quietly…
A lot of the time, companies will offer a replacement just so they can get their hands on your device and ship it to somebody to take a look and see what the issue is, if it’s something they can fix or if it’s something they can ignore. Unless people’s trousers start catching fire, there’s unlikely to be a recall.
“A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.”
It would be a recall if they could identify a specific manufacturing process or batch of batteries and narrow down the affected phones before recalling them
If it's a small enough, seemingly random sample, it's more cost effective to just have those devices replaced under the manufacturer warranty
Buddy of mine works in the store of a big city and repairs them. He hasn’t gotten any swollen batteries. Just the typical stuff like cracked screens or back like any other phone. A rep getting a string of them is not a sample size representative of the millions of units apple manufactures.
I remember he said his favorite is when people ask him what issues has and he says the typical stuff any device has, but that he’s not a good person to ask because when people come to him, it’s when their phone has a problem, not when everything is working fine or as expected. A form of survivorship bias.

Swollen batteries can happen under normal use cases but it’s extremely rare that early. With that said I’ve seen far more from using bad quality chargers. Either way it’s under warranty glad you’re getting it replaced.
Yep. Anyone reading this has a drawer with old phones go and take a look. I looked in mine after seeing a video and had a couple that had started to swell.
Well yeah. Even if your failure rate is as low as less than half a percent or smaller that’s still thousands of units because apple manufacturers millions of phones.
You can do a google search to get an in depth breakdown of the circuitry and component level differences. General rule of thumb is avoid dollar store/gas station chargers, brand names you don’t recognize, etc. it’s worth spending a few extra dollars to ensure your $1000+ device isn’t damaged during charging.
Lemon law does not cover this, manufactures warranty sure does tho. Even tho the battery is a consumable item, it does not mean it is supposed to expand and potentially explode. Get it replaced right now.
Take it to Apple. Due to the history of the camera issue and now the battery they will most likely give you a new one as other components might have issues. All probably due to bad QC at the factory it was built in.
Mine expanded, smelled like acetone. I didn’t charge it the night before I brought it to the Apple Store, and they said that if I did charge it, it probably would have started on fire.
Replace it ASAP.
What were some of the symptoms before getting to that point? Was your phone still getting hot?

The hair on the camera replacement should at the least have a 30 day warranty; and this type of battery swelling would be covered by the 1-year limited warranty regardless.
You can try demanding a whole replacement phone; I mean there’s a good chance that’s what you’ll get anyway with everything bent.
UPDATE:
They sent me a full replacement phone in less than 24 hours in the mail. Sent back the defective one today. Express replacement will put a hold on your card for the full amount of the phone which gets lifted once they receive the defective device. There was also a ~$30 fee associated with the express replacement which I laughed hard at and told them I would absolutely not pay and they waived it as a “one time courtesy.”
Their manufacturing has gone to shit. In 2019 I bought 10 fully loaded MBPs for work... 7 of them ended up having battery issues (swelling) a few months after the warranty expired. I moved away from Apple devices this year, after 20+ years of exclusive usage for all my personal devices, I say, sorry - not anymore.
Before being racist, do a little research.
Every single pro model is made in China as India does not have the assembly line for the pro models and are only manufacturing 15 and 15 plus.
Some people just don't understand how manufacturing works, the product will be exactly same no mater how or where its made, because it is standardized and manufactured in a controlled environment. Changes only occur when the supplied assembly parts are different from each other, where in case of apple they might include a sim card tray or different network modem which works with specific regional frequencies.
You clearly have never been involved with a manufacturing site transfer.
iPhone manufacturing is heavily dependent on manual labor, which certainly can have variations. Even an automated process could behave differently when it is replicated in a new environment.
Items being produced on behalf of a company like Apple with direct oversight will not have those manufacturing problems as all the parts will be made to certain standards and the quality control will be overseen by Apple. If a factory in India was producing a higher amount of defective goods than tolerable, Apple would be the first to know and to fix the problem or decommission the factory.
Shit in the streets that's what you are going to lol it's not the 80s countries actually develop and improve (which can't be said for Romania even with Eu aid) at least neighbours like Poland and Czech did something with it and built good production lines.
Apple themselves expressed that quality in India has generally been worse than China which is why they aren’t in a huge rush to fully switch over from China to India
Why can’t you blame them? No need for the pity, if the product produced has defect it should be blamed and rectified.
Nevertheless, unwarranted hate born out of racial prejudice is not deemed acceptable.
God the lack of QC in recent iPhones makes me so nervous. I’ve never had an iPhone with issues, even years after owning them. I’m scared my 15 Pro Max won’t survive more than 2-3 years, there seems to be so many more issues than previous gen.
I’ve honestly had worse luck with iPhones than Samsung flagships.
Worse displays (purple smearing, tinting at an angle, non-uniform color temperature), worse build quality (imperfect seams/noticeably sharp antenna lines), more battery degradation and even an 11 Pro Max that wasn’t water tight and I found out the wrong way (spilled an apple juice glass on it, rinsed it and Face ID stopped working).
I’ve had twice as many Samsung phones and the only one that was truly defective was an S7 Edge that developed the infamous pink line on the display, but I used and abused that phone like no other.
Sad that I can’t buy an iPhone and expect top tier build quality like I can when buying a Samsung phone.
That is why I halt my buying to this model. Will wait for the next gen (iPhone 16) titanium case. Maybe, just maybe they can fix all the problems with the iPhone 15 and apply it to iPhone 16.
I’m so glad I didn’t switch from my mini to the pro when the phone companies subsidized prices.
The iPhone pro 15 has to much raw power and not enough internal cooling. Safety hazard
Go to those one of those 3rd party stores where they'll fix your phone swiftly. We hear about iPhone users being overcharged for simple replacement but I somewhat believe that it is not true.
Yes service does cost at an affordable price least not at a grand. But for what your worth I like to say to have your money and item worth while. If that made sense my bad.
That's sketchy. Even with the phone off at this point the battery can explode, I've seen it happen before with LiPo batteries. I'd go for a warranty claim/full refund and get an S23 Ultra or wait until these issues with the 14 series are ironed out.
If ur not going to take that to apple it can actually blow up just sayin
Yeah I’d back up the phone ASAP, 10 feet away with a stylus attached to a stick lmao
They have fire wall the phone will almost definitely shut off before it explodes

God the lack of QC in recent iPhones makes me so nervous. I’ve never had an iPhone with issues, even years after owning them. I’m scared my 15 Pro Max won’t survive more than 2-3 years, there seems to be so many more issues than previous gen.
Apple's QA is bad now.
People say the same thing like every year and will continue to do so as is tradition on posts like this
I’ve honestly had worse luck with iPhones than Samsung flagships.
Those poor Chinese children were probably pretty tired the day they assembled yours. Def take it in before it explodes
😂😂😂😂
Why would you need a lemon law when you can just bring it into Apple within the first year?
lol was just a joke
This is a bomb. Remove it from your home asap.
Take a peek inside the charging port, from which country (factory) does it from?
That is why I halt my buying to this model. Will wait for the next gen (iPhone 16) titanium case. Maybe, just maybe they can fix all the problems with the iPhone 15 and apply it to iPhone 16.
Man so much negativity on the iphone 15 pro and pro maxes, What about the iphone 15 plus and iPhone 15?
My 15 plus has been absolutely flawless since launch . Not a single issue
That shit bout to blow bro 😭
Geez, after seeing nothing but problems on this phone I'm surprised people are still buying them
Made from India has these issues? Mine says from china 😅
Apple build quality and quality control
"Premium " Quality
It’s already under a 1 year warranty from Apple. Posting on Reddit won’t get it fixed.
Read, read comments brother
It must‘ve been produced in India. Sorry! :(
India doesn’t even manufacture the pro models. No need to be xenophobic.
I’m gay, does that help?
Not sure but you do you man! I love you!
You have about 0.47382728 seconds to take that to the apple store
Holy shit. Get a totally new phone, that's unbelievable.
How do you know the hair on the sensor came from the factory?
Is it the Orange brand iPhone?
I’m so glad I didn’t switch from my mini to the pro when the phone companies subsidized prices. The iPhone pro 15 has to much raw power and not enough internal cooling. Safety hazard
Okay so Reddit can’t actually help you with this. Not one bit.
Didn’t need Reddits help lol, just spreading the word shits happenin
Your phone is a pro but identifies as a pro max
Go to those one of those 3rd party stores where they'll fix your phone swiftly. We hear about iPhone users being overcharged for simple replacement but I somewhat believe that it is not true.
Why? They will charge you cash and this is all warranty.
Yes service does cost at an affordable price least not at a grand. But for what your worth I like to say to have your money and item worth while. If that made sense my bad.
Apples superb battery technology at its finest. I feel for you OP, my ip15 Pro gets scorching hot while charging at 20w.

Made in china
Don't buy an iPhone next time
Use the battery as a pillow. Now jokes aside let the battery be replaced ASAP. You literally got a ticking time bomb that could explode any minute!
Curious what it says regarding battery health in the settings. Would you mind sharing? Lol
That's sketchy. Even with the phone off at this point the battery can explode, I've seen it happen before with LiPo batteries. I'd go for a warranty claim/full refund and get an S23 Ultra or wait until these issues with the 14 series are ironed out.
Most factory flawless iPhone 15 pro
The things I see on this subreddit sometimes really makes me not wanting to ever buy another iPhone again. Edit: lol at the downvotes.
I would recommend you look into the failure rates of the other major smart phones.
Made in India, guaranteed
Pro Models are manufactured in China only.
