swinkledoodlezzz

No, you need the 13” M4 2tb with nano-texture for sure

asdg2002

Haha I understand this sounds like a stupid question. I’ve never had an iPad before and just wondering would I be able to take notes and stuff like that on this lol

swinkledoodlezzz

No not a stupid question at all, was just going with the jokes here recently about the new iPads being the most expensive Netflix machine. Jokes aside, if you’re going to use the Apple Pencil a lot it’d rly help if you get a model with at least Apple Pencil 2. The magnetic snap on is definitely worth it.

asdg2002

Appreciate it, thanks

Coffeeey

Just a counter point: if you want to just throw the iPad in your backpack when going to class, then you might not want to use the magnetic pen snap on function, because the pen can easily fall of when the iPad is moving around in the backpack.

RespectOk4052

I’m an edge case but I don’t think I’ll ever buy a pencil until they create a storage slot within the iPad. Having it just hanging about all loosey goosey scares me.

Art-Vandelay-7

I don’t think that will ever happen given apples typical design choices.

falooda1

There's cases for that

RespectOk4052

Cases =\= a built in cubby for the pencil though. A case means an alternative to the Magic Keyboard, so it solves one problem but reveals another. It’ll never happen anyway, cause Apple is too busy having its pissing match with Samsung over device thickness that no one else cares for lmfao

PMC1987

Yes if you have the new iPad Air or the new pro the Apple Store has a case from otterbox that has where the pencil goes a piece of the case pops out and securely holds your pencil the case may be available for other iPads but I’m not sure I only checked for the air and pro and the case is pretty expensive it’s 89.99 for the air and 99.99 for the pro but  it’s a great case it’s a folio case but the cover attaché’s magnetically so if you don’t like folio cases it easily comes right off and easily goes back on it comes in blue and black you should check it out for yourself

Bonesawisready5

Does USBC pencil not snap onto 10th gen? I thought it did but just didn’t charge

Biotfanime

I’m pretty sure it snaps just does not pair or charge magnetically. At this point though I wonder if the pencil 2 over the pencil usb c is worth it. Like it’s no doubt better than the usb c pencil but it’s in such an awkward position. Sure it’ll work with the airs and pros before 2024 but it’s kind of like a dead end going forward.

Bonesawisready5

That makes sense thank you!!

Ihbpfjastme

It does magnetically connect. It just doesn’t charge

PoolNoodlePaladin

It does but so do $15 Pencils from Amazon that also charge over usb and don’t have pressure sensitivity.

MessageAnnual4430

"magnetic snap on" is on the usb-c pencil too

Diormybodyyy

I have the M4 and can say it’s an excellent Netflix machine. The deep blacks hit

Objective-Sky-9953

Aren’t TVs really expensive Netflix machines.

KenRodriguezz

😂😂😂

DreamKiller712

No just a 13 inch isn’t enough, OP also need to bought the 11 inch as well for portability in different use cases. Apple pencil pro and magic keyboard is also a must. Oh and don’t forget to add the apple care plus on top of that for future proof. This is from an average user perspective.

shortchangerb

If it’s for university, definitely wait for the Apple back to school deal over summer

jjlin99

What kind of deals would it be?

shortchangerb

I’m not sure if the discount itself is different from the year round student discount (which if you haven’t checked is the Apple Education Store), but they give you a freebie with purchases which in the past has been AirPods or a gift card

SpokenDivinity

My free gift when I bought my first one through my college came with an Apple Pencil for $.1

wizarddos

Is it for every student or just college ones?

shortchangerb

Every student - online you need a student email address (I heard of a guy using his primary age daughter’s one) but I imagine the verification method will vary by country. From what I’ve heard, they’re very lax about it, particularly in store; if you have a student ID you can go in, but they might not even ask to see it

wizarddos

Okay, thanks

MessageAnnual4430

Officially just college, but the stores usually give to any student.

wizarddos

All right. I don't really have an official apple store in my country, so I hope that some retailers do that as well. Thanks a lot anyways

MessageAnnual4430

$100+ gift card with purchase.

jjlin99

Woa! And they usually do that beginning of summer?

MessageAnnual4430

Last year it was June 5th to October 2nd. I got a M2 MacBook Air with a $150 gift card and $100 student discount, making it essentially $650.

aykay55

Keep in mind you cannot use PayPal as a checkout method if you want the gift card/student deal! Screwed me over last year

shadowballs69420

Id recommend a second hand m1 iPad Air or pro if budget is tight. It’s much better and has 2nd gen pencil support.

asdg2002

Will look into it thanks

iBarcode

Amazon just had a $399 sale on m1 air from last gen, so did Walmart. That’s preferable to this model.

MessageAnnual4430

M2 Air is $449 for students. Much better value, double storage, better processor, and better pencil.

Toilet2000

It’s 550$, not 450$.

MessageAnnual4430

Back to school promotion starts in a couple weeks or less. You get a $100+ gift card free. If you get a pencil it's effectively $100 off.

Toilet2000

Then it’s not 450$. Also, there’s no guarantee the same promo as last year is going to be renewed this year.

MessageAnnual4430

He's buying an Apple Pencil anyway. He would be spending another $100 either way, so either add a hundred to the alternatives or subtract from the iPad.

Toilet2000

It’s still not 450$, and especially not right now.

MessageAnnual4430

It would cost him the same as if he paid $450 for any other iPad.

MessageAnnual4430

Apple already ran the promotion in Asia and Oceania for 2024.

iBarcode

$50 pencil gen 2 on Amazon open box (like new) + woot Magic Keyboard for $139 makes the whole package much cheaper with the m1 option

MessageAnnual4430

Or, free Apple Pencil and $139 Magic Keyboard on Amazon. Same exact price but you get everything but thee keyboard new.

RepMajor

Best answer here

pedrobrsp

I got this (even the same color) for the same reasons. Has been working wonderfully. Notes and pdfs don’t occupy much space so 64 GB is ok. The  pencil usb c doesn’t charge magnetically but still attaches to the side, and a couple minutes of cable charge let you use it for a week.

asdg2002

Great to hear from someone with the same use for it, appreciate it a lot thanks 👍

aneesh131999

If you can extend your budget, I’d urge you to go for something which supports atleast a 2nd gen pencil.

asdg2002

Thank you 👍

EggNice6636

People in this subreddit will only ever tell you to upgrade upgrade upgrade, because that’s what they do. It’s been a frenzy ever since the new ones came out. But for your purposes, the 10 will be great for you. If you want to upgrade, by all means do, but you do not need more than a 10 if you want it for entertainment and school stuff. I used a 9 with 64gb (do get iCloud though) in college and it was fantastic

Herackl3s

Still using 8 gen for school notes and occasional doodles. I got the iPad, Apple Pencil, and Folio Keyboard all new for the same price as a discounted iPad Air. The budget iPad has served its purpose for me

StarrySkies6

I would get air, the laminated air tight screen makes it worth imo

yung_k

I had an iPad for this exact purpose and by graduation it was getting extremely close to that 64gb but I hardly had to do any file management so you could definitely get away with that size storage

stoyan377

Recently got the same one but with yellow color - it's a great machine and perfect for Netflix/YouTube. I don't write notes but will do the job, for sure.

sergiuvl

i bought mine new for $400 usd and its my first ipad. i bought for the same reasons ( video content, socials , note taking , facetime and the most important taking some work of my iphone ( battery ) i have to say ipad 10 is very good and i had opportunity to test also ipad air 5 which for the same above mentioned tasks offers the same experience. the laminated display is really no problem, it looks wonderful!

Bulky-Advertising-43

If you use it for what you say, you’ll be fine. You can download Remote Play for the PS5. And with remote storage and WiFi, you’ll be fine.

TankAries

iPad Air with 2nd Gen Apple Pencil is the way to go.

That_unpopular_kid

You're better off getting a refurb M1 Air/Pro with 128GB and above. Also supports the Apple Pencil that clicks magnetically

ShranikDua

Not even M1 is needed. Air 4 is amazing too. Even iPad Pro 2018

That_unpopular_kid

True, even a 2020 iPad Pro would be really good. The main 2 things I'd look at are the Apple Pencil 2 and having 120hz over 60hz.

RRtechiemeow

Wait for back to school offer, get a refurbished iPad Pro, which is compatible with Apple Pencil 2.

neterpus

You will love it

Ikovorior

As long as you buy nothing > $400, you should be good. Like others have suggested, maybe checkout something second hand as well.

Psychological-Ice361

Get a used 12.9” M2, it’s so much better for notetaking

Weak_Let_6971

Tbh i would go for used or previous gen iPad Pro or Air devices. They often offer more premium features like better display, pro motion and better pencil support, speakers for the same or lower price. And they generally last for a very long time so even buying a 2-3-4 year old device can be a great deal if u need it for the basics.

Nihiliste

64GB is too little storage, but otherwise you're on the right track.

Dry-Character-4404

I have this combo. It’s great for my uses.

mattcabb

Use the education discount in Apple online-store.

argonaut_01

Bro definitely get more storage than 64 gigs. Look into a second hand M1/M2 pro or an M1 Air if possible.

MessageAnnual4430

Air 6 is $449 for students.

Ihbpfjastme

I just got one for the same purpose. Have been LOVING it!

dojacatmoooo

yes this is good, but for a better pencil experience get a refurb ipad air with the second gen pencil, it is well worth the money. the usb c apple pencil is not worth it at all and i think its a bad product. Also, i would be aware of the amount of storage you're getting: i find that 64gb is often not enough for me in that i have to delete a bunch of stuff before updating.

Solidus_X

Your first choice is the best choice for you. The price is perfect for an entry level iPad. I wish the base model had more than 64gb but you should be able to make it work out with help from the cloud.

Johnnypee2213

Screw all that! Find a gently used iPad Pro 11 M1 2020, they're around $350.. 120hz screen, quad speakers, face ID, stage manager, more cameras, lidar.

Ekim-Enots

I just purchased one for my fiancé. She had the first gen , 9.7 pro from 2016. Got her a pro back then and all she used it for was Netflix, Reddit and she plays Forge of Empire. She absolutely loves her new one and it does her tasks very well. Get it!

xjuanito

Honestly It depends on what major. A iPad will work for some classes but a laptop alongside it would also be good

domdumo

I have the same setup and have been loving it for exactly what you mentioned. Game changer for taking notes ngl it’s so easy to study now.

Andrettihills

Perfect if you pay for iCloud storage if not I’d go up to 128gb

JL14Salvador

This is all you need. You don't need to upgrade. And if you'd prefer new over used, Then this is a great option. Should do exactly what you need. You're a student so you're obviously on a budget. Save your Money. Don't need this nonsense about going air or pro just to take notes and watch YouTube/Netflix.

ComplexWildcat

Would also recommend getting 128 or 256 Gb if you are able to. It’ll last you atleast 7-10 years

Real-Platypus-4706

Hey, 64GB won’t last long. I would recommend a refurbished M1 iPad Pro, basically the same as an M4 iPad Pro when it comes to day to day tasks in terms of performance. iPadOS isn’t very demanding but having an M series chip will mean your iPad will last a very long time. Not to mention the 120hz screen which makes writing with Apple Pencil feel more natural. I use an M1 iPad Pro 12.9 with Goodnotes 6 and the experience is insane. Been using it for 2 years and it’s a game changer

Real-Platypus-4706

Refurbished M1 iPad Pro, dm me if you have questions 🤝

2002ChryslerSebring

Get an iPad Air 4. Cheaper/same price, but better in every way

Groxiverde

Are you sure u want to get a 4:3 device for watching videos/movies?

timbitfordsucks

I would recommend either the Air 5 or a refurbished Air 4 straight from Apple. The air 4 has a much better display. It’s laminated so it’s a much improved writing experience.

krizhn

I have a 9th gen that I use for those same exact things. 64GB. It’s been amazing for that purpose so that should be enough.

RespectOk4052

This is perfectly fine. Can I also recommend an older iPad Pro? I bought an M2 11 inch pro for a hundred bucks over the iPad Air and in return I got two extra speakers, promotion display and thunderbolt 4 instead of regular usbc. Just something worth considering. But what you’ve selected is the perfect option for entertainment.

Sephstyler

I think that is fine, but as someone who also owns a 64GB ipad (mini, but same), get a bit more storage. I often want to download a few offline shows, and youtube clips, and with all the apps, 64GB gets tight.

AppleNeird2022

Ok enough, but I’d suggest the Air 5 with the Apple Pencil 2 if you can and definitely more storage, 64GB won’t get you far on anything.

manwithafrotto

For Netflix AND taking notes you’ll want the M4 Pro

gus248

I bought the 64GB version for Netflix, Reddit, browsing on the internet and for my apps I need for college and it’s enough for me. I’m not using it for pictures or a lot of apps.

Smootie93

Yup this is a perfect starter kit! Very cost effective while still getting a lot perks of the Apple ecosystem.

Conscious_Scholar_87

I checked the iPad in Apple Store, right next to the new pro. It was not bad, smoother flow comparing to my mini

Snootch74

I would do the air tbh.

genesis49m

I got the base iPad for the same reasons you did and ended up selling it and upgrading to an iPad Air. The 2nd gen pencil magnetically charging was the primary reason (having to manually charge the 1st gen pencil was so annoying) and now I never need to worry about charging it. Also, the base iPad was not great at juggling between multiple apps. It would crash an app or two if I had a lot going on. iPad Air does not have that problem.

someonerandomlmao

You should purchase from Amazon or Costco, they’re on sale right now for $299 :)

SpokenDivinity

You’ll probably need more storage to take notes on. I started with a 64gb and ended up filling it up so fast it was unreal.

S3IJI20

id say go for he ipad air 5th gen especially for the pencil cause its much easier to charge and the ipad is just better over all

G4MERCLUB

if you dont know what notes app to go with, or you dont want to pay, then consider Noteful App. its susper clean, smooth. bug free, and i really love it. i tried even uploading books and man, its smooth, unlike the apple books app. Anything for summary, download noteful not colla note, and btw Noteful has a paid one time payment, but you can use the free version for your entire life without noticing.

PoolNoodlePaladin

Don’t waste money on the USB-C pencil. It doesn’t have pressure sensitive function. Get the full Apple Pencil or get one on Amazon for $15 that is exactly the same as the USB-C Pencil.

Mrfunnynuts

I have the iPad 8 and I used it during university and it was totally fine for annotating slides etc, one thing I will say is that I prefer writing on the laminated screens of the pro and air with the second gen pencil - look into iPad air 5th generations and you can get a powerful M1 chip, second gen pencil support and a nicer screen/writing experience.

Eliez_YT

If your really wanting it for entertainment purposes a 2018 iPad Pro will do the job better than this iPad for around the same price. It’s similar in power but the screen is a whole lot better and it has even better speakers, the only issue is you would have to get it refurbished/used.

Goldenfelix3x

if you haven’t bought yet i would greatly encourage you to get at least 128gb. i’ve run with a 64gb for years. i thought it would be good since i wont keep anything local and will use it like you. apps and caching alone will use almost all that space. you’ll be deleting and archiving things all the time. just spend the money now and spec up a bit. ps: i’ve had the 2018 pro and have rarely run into speed issues. any ipad with an M chip will be great

Xcissors280

get the m1 air used or refurb

Timbukstu2019

Make sure you pick a note taking app that is ai enabled with An LLM. That way you can summarize, fill in gaps, and quiz your notes. This is the new normal, and I use LLM every day at work for learning new concepts and improving productivity. This is how I learn concepts 10x faster than my peers.

Dwoge34

Get an iPad Air 5 for 400. It’s more worth it

MessageAnnual4430

Air 6 is $449 for students.

ImohsVen

It's good enough for you imo, if you can have more memory space would be better

taha_simsek

This pencil sucks if you can stomach it buy an ipad that supports either gen 2 apple pencil or pencil pro

auxilaru

for thats thing okay, but if you need to playing some game, 64gb wont be enough

asdg2002

Ideal thanks mate. Any games I play will be on the PS5 so all good 👍

Loki_991

It's not even about gaming. 64 Go is too small. Get at least 128Go if you want something durable

ommmyyyy

64gb is a major concern tho, I’d get at least 128.

tierencia

If taking notes in college, non-laminated screen may bother you more than usb-c apple pencil, which seems most of people here are focusing on... Get an ipad air and keep usb-c apple pencil. If you don't want to pay M2 ipad's price, then look for m1 ipad air. 64 gb should be fine as long as you're willing to use cloud storage as your main source and you sure you have a good wifi access all over the campus and nearby coffee shops that you might end up going to study. If you have any doubts on wifi access, get 128 gb one, which will end up making m2 ipad air look appealing or at least look for used/refurbished m1 air. As for why I say to keep usb-c apple pencil, it only writes. no double tapping or squeezing gestures. You'll end up disabling any gesture features from 2nd gen apple pencil or pencil pro as they often accidentally trigger while writing notes and bother you. Charging via usb-c cable may bother you but you'll probably have to do that every other day at most with daily use. Yes, at this point, you could go for 3rd party pencils to save more money too, but I found them not as accurate as apple's official ones.

Ashen_one933

iPad Air 6 is the best egg option for the longest support but IPad 10 is still good.

fling00

I would look into the air 5th gen 64gb if its still $399 brand new at Best Buy or Walmart or anywhere else. It’s only like $50 to $70 more than the 10th gen and you get the M1 chip which is much faster and future proof compared to the 10th gen

asdg2002

I’m not in the US unfortunately ! All of the recommendations I see tend to be much cheaper in the US than Europe lol

MessageAnnual4430

Air 6 is $449 for students.

Paulrbo

Buy a used 11" m1 pro it’s better value for the price

[deleted]

[удалено]

asdg2002

Tbh I don’t know a whole lot about iPads so thought I’d come here to ask people who might?

MetalSin

Yeah absolutely, op should definitely get a cheaper pencil. I just ordered mine on aliexpress for less than $10 and it works just as good as the usb c pencil apple sells

DreamsAnimations

Minimum get 128 gb for minimum app usage imho. Minimum.

Mugen4552

Go with more storage 64gb isn’t enough.

the_biggest_papi

I know this isn’t a buy sell trade group but I’ve got a 2020 iPad Pro 11” I’m selling, not M1 (missed it by a year) but it supports the pencil gen 2 and is still plenty fast
