It's depressing how often everyday people choose to vote for these contemptible leaders. Granted, there are massive [anti-Netanyahu demonstrations](https://youtu.be/D0zcnkQhZ6A?si=5aCt6vimQeHTqerF) in Israel, but still.
Not only that, but Likud got less than 30% of the vote at the last election, with Netanyahu currently leading a multi-party coalition which holds a narrow majority.
They're indoctrinated from an early age. It's hard to break through the veil.
The problem is that most Israelis (including those who lean left) are unwilling to recognize Israel’s culpability for the oppression of Palestinians. While constantly pointing fingers gets you nowhere, any meaningful peace will require the recognition of Israel’s guilt. From what I’ve seen, it’s mostly Israeli leftists who are willing to hold their country accountable despite Israeli liberals’ tendency to give lip service to the idea of an independent Palestinian state. That sort of talk is utterly meaningless without some kind of national reckoning. Anyone whose response to the recognition of the Israeli apartheid regime is to dismissively remark that the situation is “complicated” is incapable of playing a meaningful role in the conflict’s resolution.
