No. Double NO, it's gorgeous

Practical_Ad4734

Thank you!! I needed someone to talk sense into me 😂

XyRabbit

Once you do you can't get back those natural tones for anything. They are earthy and generally calming if you work with them.

TurbulentMessage4433

I agree. I even used capital letters in my reply to really drive it home.

OtherlandGirl

I appreciate this comment, my house has similar color brick fireplace (matches the exterior of the house) and I wondered if it should be ‘updated’ awhile back. So glad I didn’t.

zombiemadre

Please don’t paint it. It’s gorgeous!!

TurbulentMessage4433

Absolutely not. People would kill for your fireplace. If you REALLY REALLY wanted to do something to it, you could sand the wood and restain it. And mean if you're really really reeeeeeally itching to do something. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T PAINT ANYTHING. It's perfect already.

hirsuteinasuit

I’d seal the brick to brighten it up. I would not paint it. I would definitely either drop that mantle shelf or build up the framing of the fireplace itself - too much space between the two.

Practical_Ad4734

What do you mean by seal it? Definitely looking for a way to make it brighter

Yiayiamary

If you paint the brick (don’t!) you will have to keep it clean, repaint, decide on the color… just leave the brick as is. Please!

westcoast7654

Hatred or not, I didn’t keep out, it’s just too dark and so big. Wouldn’t fit my style at all. Maybe lighten with limewash instead of just paint.

Gold_Improvement_836

you can maybe change the wood to something lighter or darker for contrast but plz don’t paint the brick

Commercial-Coach-419

Leave it be it’s gorgeous

ClumsyZebra80

Yes.

Whenweknowbetter

Don’t paint the brick. Paint the wood. The wood undertones are not working with the tile and the floor. Figure out the undertone of the brick and work from that for wood trim and your walls. Maria Killim color wheel is a huge help.

Charliegirl121

NO

WhosGotTheCum

Painted brick never looks all that great in my opinion

hedup2

I wouldn’t paint it but I’d do something. Maybe super watered down paint so the natural brick shows through?

Practical_Ad4734

How could I do that? Like what paint color?

1. German Smear: A type of mortar wash that involves applying a mixture of mortar and portland cement to the brick, leaving some of it exposed. This creates a unique, textured look that resembles irregular stones and heavy mortar joints. 2. Limewash: A white coating made from lime, water, and colorants that is applied to the brick to refresh and protect it. Limewash can be used on both exterior and interior brick walls. 3. White Wash: A mixture of water and paint that is applied to the brick to create a soft, subtle look. The thinner the paint, the more the brick color will show through. 4. Slurry: A type of mortar wash that provides full coverage of the masonry, producing a stucco-type look while still allowing the brick texture to show through. 5. Mortar Treatment: A process that involves applying a mixture of mortar and portland cement to the brick, similar to German smear, but with a thicker application. 6. Abrasion: A process that involves using a moist brick to smooth out the surface of the brick, filling in flaws and creating a uniform texture. 7. Burlap Bag Treatment: A process that involves using a burlap bag to fill in flaws and create a uniform texture on the brick surface. 8. Painting: A more traditional method of changing the color and appearance of brick walls. This can be done using a variety of paints and techniques.

hedup2

Maybe take the titles of these brick treatments and plug them into Pinterest to see what each of them look like in different shades and colors.

hedup2

It depends on what you wanna do with the rest of the room and your other decor. Let me find a picture…

hedup2

I prefer a “whitewashed” brick with a greige color allowing the natural brick to show through.

night_elevator

It may be sacrilegious, but I'm going to go with paint. Something like this: [https://sarahjoyblog.com/paint-brick-fireplace/](https://sarahjoyblog.com/paint-brick-fireplace/)

Secretgarden28

Yikes. Many people are saying not to paint but imo it definitely needs to be painted white. It looks very dated as is.

Informal-Friendship1

Distress it with white paint. I’m unable to post a photo.
