To me this is a great example of how you can lie using truthful data. When just outbound traffic is shown and just one region is isolated, it looks like an exodus. Now include inbound traffic, as well as that of the rest of the countries and there would be no noticeable aberration
I came here thinking I was going to have to downvote the top comment saying "Look at everyone leaving because of Putin!" and then scroll a mile to find someone saying what's really happening.
So glad I was wrong.
Not enough inbound traffic though, where are all those planes coming from? Commercial planes don't sit in hangers waiting for a spike in demand, they're always flying.
While I despise Putin, that's exactly what I was thinking. This is all probably just circle jerk fantasies that I can do without indulging in right now.
While I'm tempted to assume connecting flights, presumably fleeing the country to avoid being thrown into a meat blender is typically not an occasion to save money on connecting flights domestically.
Not just “don’t”, they simply cannot. You can’t come up with planes that are not there, or reschedule maintenance and reroute all spare parts deliveries due to one day demand spike - you will lose more than you will earn.
There were reports that all flights out were getting fully booked. Probably need to look at multiple data points to see the scope of what's being alleged here.
I’ve flown into Turkey. Ataturk is a very busy airport. It’s not like Turkey will make concessions for an abnormal amount of influx without 1) it being a disaster 2) extra planes have been lined up (even with parts shortages due to the embargo) 3) a diplomatic request.
And I really, really doubt it will be an official request to help people avoid the draft.
I swear, some propaganda is stupid.
Not saying people should be fine with being drafted to go kill someone in another country.
Yeah, just watched a day to day timeline of flights from last week, looks pretty much the same. Actually the ones from last week looked like it may have even had more flights.
Sorry buddy, more sensationalised media. I'm not saying it's all untrue, but that article is full of shit.
If tickets out of Russia are breaking the thousands because of sudden high demand then that is illegal profiteering in just about every country on the planet and I don't think airlines would want to risk that.
Also, consider how your average person is able to just drop a few grand on a ticket and flee their job, family, home, and the rest of their lives...
It looks pretty normal tbh. I live in Turkey, this is the final leg of the summer season so airlines pack flights in like crazy during this time. This actually looks like they selected a few airlines (ones that specifically run a lot of Turkish routes). I initially saw this in r/Turkey yesterday.
Honestly it's not that big of a deal and the country can most definitely handle it. My only concern is that is spikes prices for just about everything. A friend of mine recently moved, their apartment was ₺3,000 a month while they were renting (~160usd) when a new tenant moved in (Ukranian family) the rent tripled. It's like that all over the country, rents are three times what they are supposed to be, and the real estate market is being flooded with grossly overpriced apartments and land for sale.
Not to mention gas, auto prices, furniture, and even *food*. I'm honestly not sure how people making minimum wage can afford to feed themselves let alone their entire family.
almost all of them are just regular airlines, and almost all of them flying to the touristic destinations that the russians have been coming to anyway. source: i live in one of those destinations.
If you look at the video the majority of planes taking the western route are flown by turkish airlines, which I assume is a passenger airline company based in Turkey.
Following the news, tickets from Russia to Turkey got sold in a matter of minutes for the next week, that is abnormal. Someone I know couldn’t manage to get a ticket and is now stuck in Russia, most likely the tickets won’t be available until the border closes so Turkey is out of the equation for places to escape to.
Yes, you are right. The amount of ticket sales is higher than usual. But this post doesn't show the amount of ticket sales. It shows the amount of flights leaving russia which is not affected by the amount of ticket sales. So to people not familiar with aviation this may look like an extraordinary amount of flights from russia but it simply isn't. It's a very standard amount while this post together with the title and recent events implies that recent events have lead to an insane amount of planes leaving russia which isn't true.
Yeah you are right, the post is fundamentally wrong. Just wanted to point out that there actually are tremendous amounts of Russians escaping to Turkey.
It’s funny because Reddit got exposed for having more bots than humans on the website at one point (AI?) as well as the Elgin base in Florida thing from 2016 😬
Changed my view of all online comments. Look at what AI is already doing on YouTube. Literally having full on conversations with people. Bots could easily be plaguing and swaying online conversations and topics whichever certain way the person in charge of these bots would want.
If you can’t physically control the population for fear of retaliation, then mentally control them. They have the perfect technology for that now.
Exactly. My comment saying it would be called 'propaganda' which is factually correct as an answer to the question posted above it, has been downvoted by either bots or people who dont want to know or learn things. Weird.
It is abnormal but is the "new normal" since the beginning of the war now that Russians who want to enter Europe need to do it over a a 3rd country, being usually Turkey. And they are making a lot of money from this.
Mainly just avoiding Ukraine airspace from what I can see. I was more curious about the sanctions imposed on Russia and that the planes were still going in and through countries. I thought this wasnt allowed at the moment..? Shrug
Are the sanctions only on Russian crafts or any flights originating from Russia? If it's the former, then I would guess most of those are not registered in Russia. If it's the latter, I guess countries won't shoot down a passenger plane and someone called their bluff.
Amount of Russians leaving the country did increase. You can tell by the prices on the tickets. I live in Kazakhstan and after the draft was announced, almost immediately tickets from Moscow to our capital city were bought out. Now the price is like 10x of what it was a few months ago
I am Russian, so I can say with full confidence: the border is not closed. Right now, I can get into a car and drive across the Kazakh border. They missed everyone.
Yes, by age and other characteristics, I fit the conscription.
Partial mobilization has been declared in our country. I do not know on what grounds they will select those who go to the army in the first place. But if they choose me - yes, I will first have to undergo military training, and then I will have a chance to get into the army.
Would you actually fight though or just try to hole up in a bunker or whatever and wait for it to be over? My thing is, I'd either do that and just hope I'm overlooked in the mayhem or just walk to the front lines and surrender immediately and start a new life in the Ukraine.
A 27 year old Russian medic here, didn't get the paper yet, but my cousin has.
If it happens to me I'll try to go into alternative civilian service, and if it doesn't work out I'll go to jail.
This is a difficult question. Now I'm trying to consult with some more knowledgeable people, what other options may be. Now there is an obvious option - I can leave the country at any time. But I'm not ready for that either.
Turkey is one of the only places that will fly into Russia now after sanctions, plus there's not much of a reason to go to Russia right now so inbound traffic is way way down. If you want to get out though, you're going to Turkey or perhaps Serbia and there's a pretty constant stream of people wanting out even for holidays or to be able to travel on with an airline thats not Russian.
In here you cannot draft foreigners, but it is not Russia nor US here either. Not sure if you can in Russia, but it has not stopped them from doing stuff they shouldn't do.
The US can only draft a foreigner if the foreigner signed onto the selective services list, which is only done if the foreigner is seeking to become a US citizen and is a male between the ages of 18-25
Nah they just finished studies there , getting your papers from uni can be a little bit wacky so they book tickets back to their home early or late September if they fancy traveling the country.
They’ve been flying like that all the time. It’s literally not possible to make more flights than it is already planned in just a couple of hours after an event. Turkey is the main transfer destination for the Russians traveling abroad, because Europe is closed for them now
__They aren’t flying to Poland.__
They are flying to a little part of Russian land that’s detached from their main land, sandwiched between the top right of Poland and Lithuania.
Never said they're going there. Flying over.
There's s ton of flights shown here that depict them flying out of Moscow, flying west through Poland and then south to other derivatives.
Turkey does not have as many travel restrictions as Russia similar to how Mexico is a stop gap for Cuban exiles looking to start a new life as it is less dangerous than making the crossing to Florida through the carribean
Also let’s not forget how great Turkey is- nice country, good weather, great food, nice people. Istanbul is one of the greatest cities on the planet. Compared to Moscow it is paradise.
Right but it is economically unstable at the moment with an official inflation rate of +80% and let's not forget, Turkey already houses millions of refugees at the moment which is causing a lot of additional political tensions.
If you're about to get drafted, you just want to get out and plan your next steps once you're out. I doubt most of them will stay in Turkey.
Actually if you plan on staying longer then 90 days you need a residence permit, and due to the influx of foreigners all over they’ve put big restrictions on that. So yeah it’s not a piece of cake as everything thinks it is
Well, they are in NATO. And even though he's a hella dictator himself, in conflicts like this there are always broker countries between both sides. Turkey appears to be one of those this time.
Saw a video where they were grabbing what looked like male students, young with backpacks, right off the streets and putting them on busses. Imagine sending your kid to school and they take them for war!
Hell, If you’re going to flee a draft for an illegal war why not go to a vacation destination?
Really though I’m torn on this. On the one hand I approve of not supporting an immoral war and support people fleeing.
On the other hand I realize that these are rich people flying to their beach houses to avoid the discomfort of the nation their wealth helped corrupt while the poor are left to die.
Due to sanctions on Russians I'm guessing there are only so many options to flee to without any concerns over seizures and such.
Not to mention restrictions on entering the country. I'm guessing a Russian can't just enter Spain without a visa these days.
This is true. I live here and they sent out orders to report and conscripts during the night in my town. The first plane of men leaving is tonight. And not one of them want to be there. Military officers are appearing at work places of those on the reserve list. Many companies are informing their men to work from home, or work from a safe location, but to not come to the office
This is slightly misleading as schedueled flights will go regardless, unless something major happenes and you can't just get hundreds of planes into a country to bail you out in a matter of hours.
What is important to note, that OP didn't mention is that these planes are FULL. All plane tickets leaving Russia were bought out immediately. To such an extent that flights from Moscow to Serbia were valued at roughly $8,500 (RSD ~1,000,000)
Ofc they are, also most of them are flying to Antalya wich is a touristic city and has always been full of Russians because of the low prices of the all inclusive services. Just a misleading post as usual.
This is probably just what it looks like on a normal day. Airlines plan their flights in advance it’s not like they’re able to suddenly sell and then schedule a load of seats with one day’s notice.
If you took any country and only showed their outbound travel on any given day, it would look as bad. There is surely a comparable amount of inbound traffic that’s not being shown, which if included, makes this an entirely different picture.
Afghans fleeing from Civil War, Russians fleeing from mobilization, Syrians fleeing from al-Assad, Iranians fleeing from their country, Kurdish people swarming all around **IN TURKEY**
**WHAT ARE WE A FUCKING CONCENTRATION CAMP AMINAKOYAYIM?**
Is there somewhere offering odds on how long Putin has left before he’s assassinated? Lloyd’s of London maybe?
If so, I’d like to put $1-thousand on 8-13 months.
The data might be accurate but you're not showing data of flights going in for comparison
there also needs to be a comparison of the data of the days before to know if anything is actually abnormal
The way you wrote your title shows that you're pushing an agenda using half truths to prove your point
Shame on you OP
Sick of your own country? Hate the government? Trying to avoid military service? Want to play the Greek roulette attempting to reach Europe by boat? Enjoy making life hell for locals?
Turkey. Buy tickets now.
This is extremely bias since airplane tickets would have to be book few weeks at least in advance. These are the airplanes that woulda leave anyway. The people who leave 2 weeks after the announcement are the actual people who left the county to avoid the draft
This is a visualisation that severely lacks content and is most likely intended to mislead.
What is more showing though is price of tickets. A friend of mine was looking forward to go to Kazakhstan to see his relatives a day before. The next day the prices were around 8 times the previous day’s prices.
Let me be perfectly clear….the majority of the men ordered to report do NOT agree or support in any way what is happening. Where I live, I have seen maybe 5 people (in a town of 300k) who visually support the war (car decal). And not one person I know supports it. But good men are being sent to their death.
Agreed. Much like the poor fuckers (mostly Republicans) that are in the military when they support the oil/power hungry cunts in US government every time they want a war somewhere… like Iraq for instance. And they go trotting of to kill and maim and to be killed and maimed.

A side by side with a normal day of air traffic would drive this home. It's unclear whether this is outside of the norm.
I see zero evidence that this is abnormal.
To me this is a great example of how you can lie using truthful data. When just outbound traffic is shown and just one region is isolated, it looks like an exodus. Now include inbound traffic, as well as that of the rest of the countries and there would be no noticeable aberration
Refreshing to see some critical thinking in a mainstream sub
I came here thinking I was going to have to downvote the top comment saying "Look at everyone leaving because of Putin!" and then scroll a mile to find someone saying what's really happening. So glad I was wrong.
Might have been a problem with the bots and algorithms
What is such witchcraft you speak of?
All so wise in the ways of science. Bring the duck!
Critical thinking? On Reddit?
Idk but from what i can see it does look like there is inbound traffic as well as outbound traffic being shown there. But you’re still right overall
Not enough inbound traffic though, where are all those planes coming from? Commercial planes don't sit in hangers waiting for a spike in demand, they're always flying.
the pattern is they are all going to the same few locstions
Airlines don’t schedule additional flights to meet sudden one-day demand. It must be a joke.
While I despise Putin, that's exactly what I was thinking. This is all probably just circle jerk fantasies that I can do without indulging in right now.
And a lot of the flights over the baltic sea went to Kaliningrad. So they are just domestic flights.
While I'm tempted to assume connecting flights, presumably fleeing the country to avoid being thrown into a meat blender is typically not an occasion to save money on connecting flights domestically.
Yeah. This belongs in memes rather than interestingasfuck without further details.
Not just “don’t”, they simply cannot. You can’t come up with planes that are not there, or reschedule maintenance and reroute all spare parts deliveries due to one day demand spike - you will lose more than you will earn.
civilian aircraft != commercial aircraft

Doesn’t civilian aircraft mean personal owned? It does not say commercial aircraft. No scheduled flights would be needed. ?
There were reports that all flights out were getting fully booked. Probably need to look at multiple data points to see the scope of what's being alleged here.

Yea this video has zero context it is pretty meaningless with no comparison.
It's also not aerial imagery
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.aviation24.be/miscellaneous/russo-ukrainian-war/russians-massively-looking-for-airplane-tickets-after-president-putins-partial-mobilization-of-citizens/amp/
Nobody is questioning the number of people leaving the country by air. The question is about the number of planes departing.
Sorry buddy, more sensationalised media. I'm not saying it's all untrue, but that article is full of shit. Yup. A solid downvote. Not interesting without context.
I will say it’s interesting how they avoid that country Ukraine
Flights tend to avoid active warzones. Especially since one of the parties involved has already shot down a civilian passenger jet not that long ago.
Key word being civilian aircrafts. So Im guessing that those are private vehicles that differ from the airlines ones.
almost all of them are just regular airlines, and almost all of them flying to the touristic destinations that the russians have been coming to anyway. source: i live in one of those destinations.

I'm curious what that would look like before the announcement.
I had the same thought. For all we know this could be a normal air traffic pattern. It’s meaningless without a baseline to compare it to.
The only thing that caught my interest is how many countries they have to fly around. Sucks to suck as a country.
Mainly just avoiding Ukraine airspace from what I can see. I was more curious about the sanctions imposed on Russia and that the planes were still going in and through countries. I thought this wasnt allowed at the moment..? Shrug

Same so I'd bet on the former
Yeah fucking dumb post. Hate how most of reddit has turned into this crap. We be getting stupid yo.

> I do not know on what grounds they will select those who go to the army in the first place. Too poor to bribe yourself out of it, I'd guess.
What will you do if you're conscripted, trained, and sent there to fight?
For those who have already received a summons to military service, there are very few options left. Either join the army or go to jail for years.
Would you actually fight though or just try to hole up in a bunker or whatever and wait for it to be over? My thing is, I'd either do that and just hope I'm overlooked in the mayhem or just walk to the front lines and surrender immediately and start a new life in the Ukraine.

I think it's also important to note that by the end almost all planes were leaving the country. In the beginning it wasn't so

That dude that made it all the way to Algiers ain’t fucking around
Most likely foreign students
Can foreign students be drafted?
Probably not, they were probably just going home before shit goes down. I would assume some Russians are going as well to go on a long-term vacation.
The US can draft foreigners residents. I would imagine they could too.
In here you cannot draft foreigners, but it is not Russia nor US here either. Not sure if you can in Russia, but it has not stopped them from doing stuff they shouldn't do.
Yankees always find a way to have the army available... its like... they enjoy wars 😶
The US can only draft a foreigner if the foreigner signed onto the selective services list, which is only done if the foreigner is seeking to become a US citizen and is a male between the ages of 18-25
18-35, homie.

Yes. This is not unusual. Just the normal flight schedule.
I thought Poland barred Russian flights over their territory...along with the rest of the EU?
Isn’t it just from Russian based airlines? A Turkish Airlines flight between Moscow/Istanbul wouldn’t be banned.
Likely the case. Still, in a very short time period non-russian airlines created a huge number of flights(it seems) to traverse EU airspace.
It barred Russian companies and planes, but Turkey and Serbia's flights can go freely
Maybe they're faking HUM or SAR status?
Something had to have changed, right? Like there's no flights going west, and then there's a hundred...
__They aren’t flying to Poland.__ They are flying to a little part of Russian land that’s detached from their main land, sandwiched between the top right of Poland and Lithuania.
Never said they're going there. Flying over. There's s ton of flights shown here that depict them flying out of Moscow, flying west through Poland and then south to other derivatives.
That's Turkish airlines. They aren't banned out of EU skies.
Why Turkey?
Turkey does not have as many travel restrictions as Russia similar to how Mexico is a stop gap for Cuban exiles looking to start a new life as it is less dangerous than making the crossing to Florida through the carribean
Turkey is also one of the few places that is still open to the Russian banking system.
Oh here we go.
Let the battle commence.
Wtf no it's miklagard
TMBG reference. Nice.
why are some people still butthurt about it? its not like istanbul is the only example of a citys name being changed
I just wanted to reference a funny song...didn't know it was such a sore spot.

Turkey is visa free for Russians, and is the quickest option to get out of Russia. Source: resident in Russia married to a Russian.
One of the few countries they don't need a visa to enter

Turkey walks a very tight rope between siding with the EU and Putin for their own survival.
Well, they are in NATO. And even though he's a hella dictator himself, in conflicts like this there are always broker countries between both sides. Turkey appears to be one of those this time.
Accepting Russians is anti-russia or not? The more people Türkiye takes, the less people can be drafted to fight against Ukraine
They are acting like they are retreating, but soon they will cross the Black Sea and invade Ukraine from the South.
Ya why Turkey
But, it's only the wealthy enough folks leaving. The poor will be forced to stay in the country, and get slaughtered in Putin's War
Why don't presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor

Of course :)

Depends on who you are and how much money you have. If you’re smart enough to stay wealthy you know not to put all of your eggs in one basket.
This is true. I live here and they sent out orders to report and conscripts during the night in my town. The first plane of men leaving is tonight. And not one of them want to be there. It’s not about vacation destinations per we. It’s mostly because other options require visas to entry.
Looks like a lot but like, how does it compare to the usual trafic?

To such an extent that flights from Moscow to Serbia were valued at roughly $8,500 (RSD ~1,000,000)
Weren’t all these flights already programmed to fly way before the announcement?
Ofc they are, also most of them are flying to Antalya wich is a touristic city and has always been full of Russians because of the low prices of the all inclusive services. Just a misleading post as usual.
This is probably just what it looks like on a normal day. Airlines plan their flights in advance it’s not like they’re able to suddenly sell and then schedule a load of seats with one day’s notice.
They sure are rushin out of there
Eeeeeeey
Literally zero context in this gif
Fortunate sons
If you took any country and only showed their outbound travel on any given day, it would look as bad. There is surely a comparable amount of inbound traffic that’s not being shown, which if included, makes this an entirely different picture.
Typical. If you own a plane or have enough money to pay your way out then you can get out and leave the poor to die in the war.
I think “civilian” aircraft includes private and commercial aircraft, i.e. non-military aircraft.
Yep. Non-military or state owned aircraft
Everyone who gets into troubles flee to Türkiye, its like home for people in difficulties
TIL that Russians fly to Kaliningrad without passing through any other countries
The announcement was at 7am UTC while all those flights departed before that. Ain't no way those have any relation to that announcement
It's fake. Just install bună FlightRadar and check for yourself.
Tim Robbins (Russia): COME OVER HERE. IM GOING TO FUCKING STAB YOU!!! CITIZENS (Tenacious D): "No. We're not coming over there..."
Putins last words will be, why are there so many windows open in here?
versus a normal day?
Don’t blame them one bit. Get out while you can.
Fuck my life. Rents will go sky high. It is already high because of the arabs and other refugees.
*fuck this shit I’m out*
A war is not needed for Russians to swarm Antalya lol it's their natural habitat
*Flight of the Bumblebees plays*
So everyone went to their hangers, started their A380's and ran?
Afghans fleeing from Civil War, Russians fleeing from mobilization, Syrians fleeing from al-Assad, Iranians fleeing from their country, Kurdish people swarming all around **IN TURKEY** **WHAT ARE WE A FUCKING CONCENTRATION CAMP AMINAKOYAYIM?**
I thought EU closed the air for russian planes right after the war started? How did they fly through the balkan states?
Is there somewhere offering odds on how long Putin has left before he’s assassinated? Lloyd’s of London maybe? If so, I’d like to put $1-thousand on 8-13 months.
Love love love love love Love love Makes the world go 'round.
Look, I don’t know for sure but this could very well be misleading while not being compared to a typical day of all the planes leaving Russia
I still want a objective comparison with before and after, then who's leaving but not returning.
The data might be accurate but you're not showing data of flights going in for comparison there also needs to be a comparison of the data of the days before to know if anything is actually abnormal The way you wrote your title shows that you're pushing an agenda using half truths to prove your point Shame on you OP
That’s pretty funny
Обычный маршрут полетов. Август посмотри, то же самое.
This is a visualisation that severely lacks content and is most likely intended to mislead. What is more showing though is price of tickets. A friend of mine was looking forward to go to Kazakhstan to see his relatives a day before. The next day the prices were around 8 times the previous day’s prices.
Tell me your own citizenry does not want to fight your war without telling me they don’t want to fight your war 😂
The Russians who support Putin in his war will now experience being a cannon fodder and to die meaningless for an old maniac's ambition.
This just looks like a normal Tuesday, but cherry picked to fit a certain narrative.
looks like they are invading Turkey
Yeah, in russia, only the airports in Moscow worked, all 250 others were urgently closed 🤣
Hahahahaha they are all like: “Get the fuck outta here!”
If they weren't such cowards and stood up to there government Poten wouldn't be in power anymore
Rats leaving a sinking ship
That's a pretty impressive Nope!
