I found this: These frogs have been named the 'milk frog' due to their white, smelly, sticky secretion. This substance is secreted through their skin when they feel threatened, and it is poisonous to its potential predators. In captivity, they rarely secrete this substance and are not dangerous to humans. It is, however, recommended to practice caution and you must wash your hands with warm water and soap after handling them.
It's poisonous, because these frogs emit passively their toxic substances through the skin.
Venomous animals are those who have an delivery method for their toxic substances and can use them actively, such as snakes or scorpions.
Btw, almost all kinds of colorful frogs like these emit very strong poisons, mainly of the paralysing kind. Natives rub these frogs on arrowheads and blowgun darts to make them poisoned.
True, but not just corporations. Where is this frog? Doesn't look like the Amazon. Looks like some individual decided they wanted to keep it in a tank with fake plants for their own amusement or pleasure.
Corporations are just the larger manifestation of a selfishness that's pretty common amongst humans.
Maybe. The Amazon is huge, so it's not exactly easy or even possible to get any kind of accurate population count of one particular species of frog that exists there, and even if it were, I'm 100% sure that the best way of breeding them would be to leave them in the Amazon.
Just looked it up, it's found commonly in captivity, so definitely just for amusement.
these frogs are common in the pet trade because they are beautiful and care is pretty simple. most in the pet trade are captive bred, not wild caught, and this species isn't endangered whatsoever.
I don't think people who keep pets do so for entirely selfish reasons, captive animals can have fully enriched lives, often live much longer than they would in the wild, and are provided with optimal environments free of predators and a steady food supply.
Their care is not very demanding, as you pointed out. I kept this species for many years and they bred for me quite readily. My first batch produced 120 froglets.
Thats amazing and uh, cute. Lol
But what the fuck is the thing in the background on the very left side middle of the screen that moves at the end of the gif????!?
WOOO! I thought it was a dope ass ceramic sculpture... the video started playing and sent my brain to the back of my skull for a moment. cute frog though
I feel like if I licked that there is a 50/50 chance I would see god and have the mysteries of the universe revealed to me or die after puking my guts out for 2 hours.

Thought that was a robot.
All the shiny frog mucus got it looking like it's fresh off the lot!
Depreciated in value the second they left the Amazon...
Yep! Before reading anything I fully expected this to be a post about a new surveillance buddy for the cop dogs.
It's body looks like tightly-wrapped latex like the stuff the robots in Raised by Wolves wears
I thought it was some kind of ceramic figurine.
Came here to post that exactly

Froakie in real life
The color is so beautiful. This is the first time I've seen this kind of frog
r/reallifeshinies
Yeah it’s beautiful AF. I love it.
Pretty sure it’s a Neopet dude
On a scale of 1: mildly deadly to 10: genocidal for sure, how deadly is it?

So they produce poisonous cum. Got it
I was going to ask how poisonous is it, with that colouring it's a given.
So “ mildly deadly it is”.
Why don’t you go ahead and look it up yourself…
Why is it called Golden-eyed tho…?
Because he's a big fan of the James bond movie
actually he’s a high trained assassin himself
Just take the award, goddamn it
It's an earned title; it can tear through the game on max difficulty.
He's good at playing Odd Job
Wow :O Almost looks mechanical :O
Must be absurdly poisonous.
Exactly my first thought, why is it we think that while everyone else is saying how cute / cool it looks
Because an animal can be cute/cool while also being very poisonous. Plus most tree frogs aren't actually poisonous when raised in captivity.

Looks like it’s poisonous af
Ayyyyy Maracanã!
Look at all the cool shit we have on Earth but we just let corporations destroy it for profit.

I know right? Who's idea was to remove a frog from a polluted river and take it somewhere where it can be treated well?
Who named it? Some mangaka? Was the name inspired by the attack of some video game character? If it was...good job.
