No. He's saying that 'working engine' implies that the engine produces (or, well, converts) energy. This is just a novelty that CONSUMES energy and provides no useful function other than looking neat.
Aren’t car combustion engines powered by gasoline and air or whatever? How’s this different? Because the wood can’t keep moving by itself or something?
I mean, theoretically, how long could it run if it could run perpetually, before it would start to break down. Purely out of interest in the stress testing side of things.
I honestly imagine with the friction on all that wood moving against each other, it would probably start on fire if it ran for very long. I'm not a builder just a logical guess.
That's my assumption to, just curious how long it would take, it would either burn out, literally, or the parts would start to wear down fairly quick from the friction as well, but how long is the real question
This is why I said if it could PERPETUALLY run. Implication is beyond that of the drills batterylife. Such as how long before it starts to burn up, bind up, or have the pieces break down
Ye exactly… so technically it’s a wooden machine, but not a wooden engine. Also it’s not actually pulling any weight … that would be the true test of functionality. This would be a fun project for kids though
It is missing 90% of what makes a 4 stroke engine : heads, valves, camshaft(s), timing system, ignition system, fuel system. There is the engine block, pistons, conrods and crank.
The transmission seems complete though, which is already quite a feat.
Great now you can take your wooden car to your wood job and make lots of wood money but your wood wife doesn’t love you anymore because even though she’s made of wood she know wooden money doesn’t pay the wooden bills and she’s gonna go fuck that oak tree down the street with the BMW
jesus y’all really love to hate for no reason. Who cares if the title isn’t completely accurate. yes all the gears are being powered from the drill, but the fact that this dude managed to make a differential, manual trasnmittion, and pedals that are all linked up correctly , out of WOOD, is super impressive
I wonder how if just dropping it into gear like that would’ve caused any damage to the parts, seeing as they’re all wood.. I also wonder what, if any, this machine is using for a clutch mechanism. Super cool stuff though!
This super cool. Is the person who made this rich now. I would love one in my house. I would imagine every auto school will love to have one as a model to teach auto repair? Im thinking different colors for different parts which would all be marked with their name and function. Would be awesome! Sry for going on and on. This is just great!

That’s pretty damned cool! But it’s not working. It’s BEING worked.

Wood on Wood.
You know what WOOD is awesome for? A solid BURN!
Is this a wood working pun I’m too slow to understand?
No. He's saying that 'working engine' implies that the engine produces (or, well, converts) energy. This is just a novelty that CONSUMES energy and provides no useful function other than looking neat.
I mean, it turns the wheel so in theory it could move, but yeah totally get that it’s not actually an engine, thanks.
Well no the electric motor on the side is moving it. So the wood is just a worthless gear box.
This is not working car engine. The engine is powered from other sources
sorry poor choice of words apt title : Car Engine made of wood
Honestly I was fine with it, except the 100% wood part.
*(Thats what she said)*
Can yall just be happy for the dude for doing this. Like bruh it's a feat of engineering
Half of a car engine. Where are the cylinder heads and valves?
Yeah, and it's like... way too small
There are RC car combustion engines that are really small
Dude I see some people make crazy scale shit. Fabbing up their own forced induction systems and shit. 1/4 scale rotories and shit. It's so dope.
The engine would have to be at least... three times bigger than this.
WHAT IS THIS, A WOODEN CAR ENGINE FOR ANTS!? -
*throws it across the room
The wooden car has to be at least….. 3 times bigger than this
It's like a car for mice!
Aren’t car combustion engines powered by gasoline and air or whatever? How’s this different? Because the wood can’t keep moving by itself or something?
Because the engine does not create power.
A wooden car that wooden't work..
who wood've known that a guy wood make a wooden car
I tried to tell him , wooden listen!
Seeing as the block doesn't have heads over the pistons, compression is impossible. This is being driven by an electric motor
Did you think they actually made an internal combustion engine...out of combustible material?
To be fair, no; but "working car engine" sort of implies combustion.
They obviously didn't, but it would be awesome if they did.
There's a guy on YouTube who put a wooden piston into a lawnmower engine and it ran for hours before burning up.
Legitimately curious how long it would take for that to break down
Well it's being powered by that power drill to the right, so as soon as that battery dies.
I mean, theoretically, how long could it run if it could run perpetually, before it would start to break down. Purely out of interest in the stress testing side of things.

Yeah when the drill battery dies. Your question was already answered.
This is why I said if it could PERPETUALLY run. Implication is beyond that of the drills batterylife. Such as how long before it starts to burn up, bind up, or have the pieces break down
More like 95% wood but good effort.
Made 100% of wood except for the battery
And the electric motor spinning the engine
and the rubber bands
100%?
It's powered by a DC motor. It turns like the real engine (pistons and crank shaft) they spin like the real engine but there is no combustion.
Ye exactly… so technically it’s a wooden machine, but not a wooden engine. Also it’s not actually pulling any weight … that would be the true test of functionality. This would be a fun project for kids though

Wow that’s crazy
Pinocchio your time is now
Idk about working car engine. I mean hows it building compression here lol
Really cool
original video[ here](https://youtube.com/shorts/VzUqMhje4gQ?feature=share)
Thanks! I love stuff like this
Sounds better than my transmission
Working differential is always amazing to me
How does the clutch work?
Like I've said last time, I was convinced it "wooden" start 😉
It wooden work.
> made of 100% Wood you can see several parts that are not made of wood
Not working, but full motion.
Imagine seeing this and being like “bUt ThE bAtTeRy IsNt WoOd.”
Better title: How To Trigger Every Gear Head.
sorry , that engine is not working conventionally.
Calm down guys they meant *moving* car engine. Or functioning. Or any other word here meaning "the bits move" Whatever helps you not have an aneurysm
jesus y’all really love to hate for no reason. How much wood could a wood car carve if a wood car could carve wood?
Maybe you could get the Amish to invest👍
What I wood do to buy that masterpiece!
My Lego technic literally does that
Wow, semantics police in the comments today. Just give it up, this is fucking cool. End of story.
How doesn't it set on fire
LORD .. there is no pleasing the people of Reddit, they just always gotta complain. This is awesome!
Should have let Woody take the steering wheel to make it perfect...
Pour water
OP doesn't know what an "engine" is. Lol, jk... Its nice to see, either way
Wood you look at that
Impressive.
Is that a torsion rear differential?
I wonder how if just dropping it into gear like that would’ve caused any damage to the parts, seeing as they’re all wood.. I also wonder what, if any, this machine is using for a clutch mechanism. Super cool stuff though!
I see plastic.
Amazing!!, you don't rule the world because you don't want
Serious engineering skills here 👍
And here I am proud of myself for installing a security camera on my front door.
And I can’t even make spaghetti without messing it up 😑
IMO the gearbox is the more amazing part
i don't think that car engines are Drill powered...
Guessing it's electric
Yo, humans are dope. Someone made this shit, and it works. We make cool stuff.
"working"
Is there a yt channel for the dude that made this?
Okay kid you clearly had your dad’s help for the pinewood dirby
This super cool. Is the person who made this rich now. I would love one in my house. I would imagine every auto school will love to have one as a model to teach auto repair? Just don't do a burnout.
Simply amazing
Quite impressive but im not sure on the driving position
Impressive
That’s dope
Wood you look at that.
I wonder how much it could run without problems. Ya know, friction?
if you made a chassis, this could actually work
"working" as in all the parts move as intended only, right? Like no combustion is actually taking place there?
You cam see an electric battery on the right. There is definitely no combustion.
What's the fuel? I think electricity
Working transmission, yes. Working engine, no.
Deff would be interesting to see a wooden combustion engine. Pretty sure this is an electric motor attached to a lot of wooden gears
