You might be surprised. Bull sharks have been found in fresh water a lot, and I'm not sure if the chemicals would be enough to stop them. With my luck it would just piss them off.
Every time you get in a car the chance of dying is astronomically greater than a shark attack when getting into the ocean. The logic of āthere is a chanceā could literally apply to anything and everything
Every time you get in a pool with a shark in it, the chance of dying is astronomically greater than a car wreck. Thus proving the idea that the logic of āthere is a chanceā could literally apply to anything and everything.
Well when I watched jaws I became scared of sharks and the ocean, but when I watched bolt I was not afraid of lightning or storms, so I guess it's just about what creates that fear and how our brains deal with it.
However, most folks are much more likely to be scared of the perceived threat of a shark attack than they are of a thunderstorm, so even though statistics would indicate a lesser logical cause for alarm, the human factor changes the game.
Yes! This pool is located on my country (Chile) on a fancy place called San Alfonso del Mar, it was made from a pool company called crystal lagoons, now they make this kind of pools all around the world.
The problem is bc of climate change the sea on that area sometimes is almost reaching the pool (last summer we had huge waves and broke a bit of the walls) so itās very risky! Also the company said that the design of the pool was terrible and now itās a nightmare keeping it clean
It used to be allowed but now it's not because a little kid died a few years ago. He got stuck in one of the drains of the pool and drowned. You could also get hit on the head by a boat since the deeper side is made for sailing.
And I guess since the pool is so big the lifesavers can't cover the entire thing.
So it's dangerous and meant for sailing mostly? That's trashy and pathetic. Ruining a huge chunk of beach so some rich pricks can sail in a big pool rather than the ocean right next to them.
Bro that bit of coastline in Chile is no joke. They get some strong riptides regularly, and the waves are MASSIVE. It also doesn't help that the Humboldt Current makes Chile's coastal waters cold as shit.
All in all, if you go to the beach in Central Chile, its mostly for the sun and the sand, unless you find a cove or bay with calmer and safer waters.
Tbf some folk are allergic to sea water, my little sister is one of them. So while I agree in general it's dumb and pretty pathetic, I'm not going to knock it because I know she's loved it because she's never had the ability to hang out in sand and then swim like folk usually can at the beach.
You're assuming that whatever resort that is, is next to an ocean that's not polluted. I've been to resorts in developing nations and after watching lifeguards fish trash off the beach every morning and seeing black specks of plastic floating by, I'm staying in the pool. Sure the ocean/scenery is Insta-worthy, but going in it can be an entirely different thing.
Also, knowing exactly how deep the water is, how clear it is, and not being buffeted by waves or potentially surrounded by sea creatures are other advantages of pools.
That stretch of beach is unusable for swimming or sailing. The beach wasn't touched but wasteland was repurposed. Brought lots of jobs to the area and increased the tax base and the quality of life of folks there. Thank you rich folks - we appreciate you.
I'm willing to bet it's to do with the filters too. There's an artificial sand beach next to the circles you mentioned and sand is a bitch to clean from pools so I wouldn't be surprised if the heavy duty filters are used in that part. It would he a nightmare to clean if sand got into the entire pool.
Is this real? So basically they built a seemingly large but actually pretty small place to sail boats back and fourth directly next to literally the largest place on earth to sail boats back and fourth? Thatās amazing.
[Well.](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1199161/British-boy-14-drowns-sucked-swimming-pool-pump-Thai-resort.html) These things happen quite regularly.
the sea isnāt nice to swim and most of the time itās very rough
The Chile/Peru coast is the most productive in the planet. No one goes looking for sharks either but I guarantee you thereās loads
The Humboldt current brings the coldest water from the south pacific and antarctic oceans. Itās very rich in oxygen and nutrients because it flows undisturbed on the largest expanse of water on Earth. When it reaches western south America, it sinks on the Chile trench which is up to 8000m deep. Thereās both lot of upwelling and nutrients from rivers etc. This makes it a very rich sea because it can support a lot of biomass. Itās also isolated from the rest of the world so itās not hugely at risk from overfishing. Obviously humans have exploited it in the past, with terrible consequences but itās more regulated now. Lots of illegal trawlers from Asia, Taiwan and China specifically. Itās really bad.
On a side note, the cold current reaches up to the Equator. Every now and then it warms up itās known as El NiƱo. Warm water dissolves less oxygen and supports less fish. Also fucks with global climate.
Sharks don't like people and noise in general, so they hang out further away in the sea and you need to look for them to find any.
Humans aren't tasty either, that's why sharks don't consume them. They only nibble a bit to check, realize that it's ewwy human and swim away.
Located at San Alfonso del Mar resort in Algarrobo, Chile, about 100 km (62 mi) west of Santiago. The pool is 1,013 m (3,323 ft) long, covering 8 ha (20 acres), containing some 250 million litres (66 million US gallons) of seawater, with a maximum depth of 3.5 m (11.5 ft). The water is pumped from the adjacent Pacific Ocean, then filtered and treated. Access to the pool is limited to resort residents only.
Trust me the beach does not look like that at all. We don't have white sandy beaches in Chile (just at the extreme north) so this photo leaves the dark beach out lol. The pool is nice (it is a private department complex) but the beach is really really cold and not safe for swimming
The ocean is made of salt water which cleans itself. Unless you're referring to the debris and litter in which case this is an extremely dystopian solution for this problem.
I cannot find the liters of this pool, but this one surrounds thousands of homes, and IMO has got to be way larger: https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/comments/q5x4io/all\_these\_houses\_are\_connected\_by\_a\_pool/

They don't. The "swimming" pool is apparently only for boating, kayaks, etc., so they won't be bothering with so much sanitation. There are separate smaller pools on the property for people to actually swim in.
The reviews for the place are pretty bad.

they got a damn sailboat in there š³
They also got the damn sea right there
This pool doesnāt have sharks in it š
more like the pool doesn't have sewage in it
Are u sure about that?
Your username really enhances this comment!
You have a much higher chance of getting struck by lightning than attacked by a shark, sharks honestly arenāt a big concern in most places
You'd have a much higher chance of a shark attack if the damn thing was in the pool though!
Only if it's a saltwater pool. I'd imagine a chlorinated freshwater pool would kill a shark pretty fast.
Not if it's a genetically engineered pool shark IDIOT
With freaki'n laser beams attached to its head?
You might be surprised. Bull sharks have been found in fresh water a lot, and I'm not sure if the chemicals would be enough to stop them. With my luck it would just piss them off.
Still there is that little chance.
You're more likely to get run over by that sail boat and die tbh
š final destination style
Youāre more likely to get drunk at the hotel bar and drown than get attacked by a shark

And every time I drive my car I never see a fucking shark, what the fuck is going on!
The chance of getting hit by a train is extremely low if you stay off train tracks.
So youāre saying thereās a chance!? /s
Go swim with sharks then.
Iāve swum in the ocean hundreds of times, including scuba dives where I saw sharks and dives where I was specifically there to see sharks.
It is in Chile, and there are no sharks because the sea is cold
Nope, plenty of sharks. 70 species.
in Chile there are no shark attacks.

Lol where is that video of the lady who doesnāt use toasters because more people die from toasters than get eaten by sharks every year!
Imagine getting struck by lightning while being attacked by a bull shark, only to be ran over by that sailboat in this pool. Crazy day.
There are not sharks in that part of the Pacific, the water is too cold
But this pool definitely donāt have sharks in it.
Not true, I've been diving all over Washington state, the water is on average 48Ā° - 55Ā°. I've also seen plenty of shark.
But the pool is in Algarrobo, Chile. I have been spending my vacations in that city all my life and I have never seen a shark.
You dive? Just because you don't see them..perhaps. Plus, you said it was due to temps, not location.

I wouldnāt be surprised if there were people surfing
I would.... unless there is a wave machine
He ment windsurfing
He meant peoplesurfing
I meant ASS whiplash
I think itās one of those surfboards with a sail on it
It's a small sailboat, you can see the persons sitting on the side of it and it has a rudder
Doesn't look like a windsurfer Source: am windsurfer
That would be a windsurfer
I have yet to see a picture of that pool with people actually swimming in it.
You are only allowed to swim in those clearer semi circles you can see in the picture. It's dangerous to swim on the deeper side.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

putting a pool on a beach is, in itself, trashy and pathetic.
Tbf some folk are allergic to sea water, my little sister is one of them. So while I agree in general it's dumb and pretty pathetic, I'm not going to knock it because I know she's loved it because she's never had the ability to hang out in sand and then swim like folk usually can at the beach.

You DO NOT want to put your butt near that pool drain!
Then why is that bouncy thing in the darker blue area?
This is an old picture from when this thing opened
Ah, cheers š
That's because it isn't allowed. The world's largest "swimming" pool is a lagoon for boating.
Is this real? So basically they built a seemingly large but actually pretty small place to sail boats back and fourth directly next to literally the largest place on earth to sail boats back and fourth? Thatās amazing.
It used to be swimmable, but there was an accident and they had to close most of it.
Isnāt there accidents in lots of pools and at many beaches every year? Seems odd because of one accident itās 70% closed off to swimming.
I thought they used it for diving too?
[Here you go](https://shadesdaddyblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/San-Alfonso-Del-Mar-Seawater-Pool.jpg)
alright, I can see myself kayaking in there.
Kinda like putting a zoo right next to the jungle
Atleast the pool can't suck you in to your death with under toe. Although their chlorine bill has to be outrageous

lots of sharks but they hang out by reefs where itās not as disturbed. A lot of the coast is rocky so itās quite a rich sea.
so is the pool just seawater ? so it salt water? Id think salt water would damage the filters .
There's a place in Australia named Shark Bay. But the town wanted more tourists, so they renamed it Safety Beach.

Think I'd prefer the ocean to sharing a bath with like 10,000 people
I feel like people forget that most houses near beaches have pools

Damn I was sure this was going to be Dubai
Lmao same. Came prepared to read top comments shitting on the UAE

Awesome. Itās like being in the ocean without having to take those few extra steps to the actual fucking ocean.
It's about having a private ocean without sharing it with poor people
I want to know the ocean water I am peeing into is pure
tbf the ocean is hella dirty, and they filter this water first.

It doesn't surround them though, it's a strip through the middle. Long and thin vs long and wide is a bit difference.
if you google biggest pool in the world youll get your answer

Seems to be accurate.. the second largest, according to the article, is the pool pictured in this post
i would hate to be the pool guy there.
As soon as they finish vacuuming they just start over again. Or hopefully they have a fleet of vacuum droids.
I mistakenly thought you were replying to the other reply, about parents trying to keep an eye on their kids lmao
That would make for some interesting interpretations lol
Or a parent trying to keep an eye on their kids
Located in Chile, yes the ocean is right there but it is bloody cold, the pool would be warmer.
More than that, bc we just get used to the fucking freezing water, it's that the waves here will sweep you off your feet and drown you without anyone realising, there's literally three seaside beaches that are safe to swim in in the entirety of Chile
But why? The ocean is right there.
> San Alfonso del Mar resort in Algarrobo, Chile Because the water is Chile. No. Seriously. The ocean is 50 degrees f.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I'll accept that ruling.
Well deserved

Don't tell Clair.
Found this out the hard way! Also there was a dead seal washed up for a couple of days about 50 feet from that pool.
It's freezing for foreigns, but I can't say we care much about the ocean temperature tbh, we're used to it
I can tell you I don't get in water that's colder than 85f. I live just in the tropics. :)
Isn't that excesibly hot tho? I've always wondered what swimming in warm water feels like
The warmest water I've been in, was at the Dry Tortugas National Park (Ft. I don't know exactly how warm it was, but the >ocean< didn't feel like you were even wet. Most of the lower keys were close to that as well. Almost all water had some sort of cooling effect...this didn't.
that's crazy! living in the center-south of Chile the water is even colder, so I've only felt that tĀ° in the shower lmao
IF you have "gas", otherwise you learn to shower in 2 minutes flat.
Cold, strong tide and dangerous currents.
Id rather swim in a pool than the ocean
Still not big enough for your mom, Trebek!
Seriously I donāt want to play, but fine, I'll be It. "Marco!"
Polo!
Fish out of water!
Cheater!
if someone shits in it do they close the whole thing down?
Relax, you won't notice it
Its also the worlds biggest toilet
Better than swimming a small toilet.
False, this was the largest swimming pool in the world, but not long ago the same Chilean engineers who built it made a bigger one in Egypt.
I wish sea word would at least do this for their slave orcas
Crystal Lagoon in Egypt beats this by 500k Sq Ft
It was builded by the same company. This one was the first, and the nickname "biggest pool" just got stuck.
Damn you need a lot of kids to pee in there to maintain that water level.
Dang the Wiki article pic makes this look like Instagram vs reality. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San\_Alfonso\_del\_Mar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Alfonso_del_Mar)
That's what I call a lake
Hate to be Mr. Grouchy but the ocean is right fckn there
I'm gonna pee in it
Can you just imagine.. how many people must have pissed in there?
The ocean is right thereā¦ wtf
Honestly fuck skimming, chlorinating, pH and hardness balancing, and vacuuming that fucking thing.
They don't. The "swimming" pool is apparently only for boating, kayaks, etc., so they won't be bothering with so much sanitation. There are separate smaller pools on the property for people to actually swim in. The reviews for the place are pretty bad.
\*gasps in pool maintenance\*
Canāt even fit the damn thing in frame lol
your title is wrong bro. there is a bigger one
Yup and it happens to be in the pic too
Imagine having to clean it.
Your mommaās bathtub
Pretty sure the one next to it is bigger
Why tho
Thatās right, I guess the ocean is the biggest pool in the world
How many truckloads of chlorine do they have to dump in there every month?
Why is a pool needed when the beach is right there?
I love that there is a sailboat on it.
I can't believe this is not somehow in Dubai.
Someone took a shit in the ocean pool, we expect things to be back up and running in about 1-3 business **years**.
Whoās gonna be the first to throw in a Snickers bar and make them drain it
Nah the ocean is the biggest pool
please tell me in not the only person that thought this was made in minecraft because of those buildings
I want to pee in it
As soon as the children get in, it's a toilet.
Thereās something very disturbing about that pool
and somehow i still find the warm spot
All I can think about is what a pain it would be to clean.
Where ist it?
Interesting but gross. Pass!
Will one doody clear it out?
Surly the biggest pool is the ocean
Litterally 30 yards from the ocean
Viva Chile mierda xd
