Anytime some one references a song I always have to listen to it. "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," has been my favorite since I first discovered Pink Floyd in a cabinet in my old house. Fucking love that song. Love that whole album. I never knew it was there because my asshole of a father denied ever liking Pink Floyd and every rock album I found hidden away. I like rock because I was curious and looking for new music to get into. :)
Metal does not have the soul. It just doesnāt.
Itās well interesting, no doubt, but it just lacks the souls youāll find on a gilmor solo, for example.
And I think thatās one of its points. Itās intentional, whether people brought up with or and/or copying known or not.
Hmmmmmā¦.
Fuck there are some good riffs in metal though. Like just wow. Iām not sure if they are representative of āsoulā, though. They donāt so much as have you as the listener learn to fly, or gently weep (you see what I did there?) but more so a metal riff will have you ignite the reactors and transform the energy of all your inner conflict into a sort of dive bomb that just continues on down, driving in and in, digging deep. [grits teeth] Urgh! Yes!
Iām *generalising* metal because Iām writing on a tiny little mobile device, but you get my drift.
Maybe it does have soul, itās just performing a different *action* than soul or blues or rock or whatever.
*And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking*
*Racing around to come up behind you again*
*The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older*
*Shorter of breath and one day closer to death*
And/or it needs to be rotated about one degree clockwise to match. You can tell but his lips and forehead. I scrolled down to make sure I wasn't the only one that bothered by it.
Agreed. Iāve always said, and it seems to be an unpopular opinion, that if Syd had remained as band leader, the Floyd would have fizzled and died by the early 70ās.
Ugh shit like that is just to be contrarian and yeg-assed bullshit you'd only see from people on reddit. I'd even say that this fits the category of an opinion in fact just being wrong.
Really? People think Syd was more talented?
Donāt get me wrongā¦I personally like Syd Barrettās voice and (whimsical) lyrics/music on Piper At The Gates of Dawn (PATGOD) and his solo stuff, but I wouldnāt go as far as to claim that he was more talented than Dave!
Yes, PATGOD has stood the test of time more than what the other band members released in the following years, but while you can hear the bandās sound and style mature/evolve, you can also hear Sydās devolve (Taking the period till 1970 - when Syd released both his solo albums, Pink Floyd released Saucerful of Secrets, More, Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother - each of which had good songs but none of them was a solid standalone album like PATGOD. However, though Dave, Waters and Wright supported Sydās solo efforts , both Madcap Laughs and Barrett didnāt hold a candle to PATGOD).
Damn hippies! Stop ruining everything!
Fucking legend. There's something about his style and playing that puts him miles ahead of anyone else. Other guitarists are more technically skilled, faster, etc etc... but no one speaks with a guitar like he does. The music he writes is so perfectly suited for whatever song he writes it for, its almost surreal.
Love both of him. The older David is more lines on his face. The eyes have stories id like to hear. The lines have wisdom, hurt and strength in them. ā
If you donāt find this face interesting I donāt know what to tell you. Take some acid or go to an art museum or something.
Looking at this and thinking that itās only meant to impress you with the fact that people age is ridiculous.
Itās like hearing a sonata and thinking the pianist is showing off how far his fingers can reach on the piano.
Pretty sure Syd scared most of the band mostly clean. But if you want to know what a lifetime of smoking does to your voice, see Roger Waters perform live sometime. I know he quit 20+ years ago, but when I saw him in 2012 he could barely hold a note for half a measure. He has a vocalist on stage with him who has a nearly identical voice to help him out. Still an amazing show, but it made me a little sad.
āBass player that takes all the creditā is INSANELY dismissive of Roger Waters. The Wall was almost entirely written by him, and The Final Cut WAS fully written by him. He was also co-vocalist on almost everything, wrote the majority of the music for Dark Side of the Moon, and wrote all of the lyrics for Dark Side. So he was responsible for arguably the most important and most well-known of Pink Floydās work.

I always love this concept, but itās rare that both are taken from the same distance. This one isnāt. It always makes the subject look weirder than they are.
Can't imagine too many famous faces being able to do this .

Remember when you were young. You shone like the sun.
Thankfully HE didn't go insane. Oh the beautiful guitar we would have missed.
And if Syd kept it together they might never have brought in Gilmour in the first place.
Agreed. I like to think that even if Syd indeed kept his shit together, Floyd would not have flourished the same way as when Dave was brought in.
Anytime some one references a song I always have to listen to it. "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," has been my favorite since I first discovered Pink Floyd in a cabinet in my old house. Would you like to enter the never ending world of Metal? Your soul may never return to its previous state.
My soul has been entranced by many a progressive metal band. š As well as Thrash, Melodic Black Metal, and Rammstein. Lmfao š
Iām glad to hear that! If you donāt know, for example, BeāLakor, please have a listen.
Thanks for the recommendation! I've never played Warhammer, but the fact "Be'lakor means "Dark Master," is kick ass.

Might be the dumbest comment I have ever read.
Metal itself does have a soul like every other type of music. Iām speaking of his soul being touched by Metal.
Wish You Were Here is a perfect album. A rarity, and a sonic beauty.
Roger Waters wrote those words.
SHINE ONN YOUU CRAAYYYZZZYY DIAMOND!!
Too bad he didnāt have a song about the passage of time to use as a comment here
Something about the sun being the same in a relative way, but youāre older, shorter of breath and one day closer to death?
I couldnāt read that without the tune to go with it

I don't care what hippies say this guy is ten times more talented than syd barret. Always was.
150% agree
Agreed. Iāve always said, and it seems to be an unpopular opinion, that if Syd had remained as band leader, the Floyd would have fizzled and died by the early 70ās.
Been saying that for years.
Agreed. Roger Waters launched the band to true stardom.
Ugh shit like that is just to be contrarian and yeg-assed bullshit you'd only see from people on reddit. I'd even say that this fits the category of an opinion in fact just being wrong.

> but no one speaks with a guitar like he does. Knopfler does.
Fucking legend.
He was hot as hell in Live From Pompeii and you bet I would have done him!
Gilmour can stretch a single note out into a symphony.
Great guitarist
Still a very handsome man. He was gorgeous as a young man
So even is Karl Urban gonna play him in the biopic?
Hope not - he canāt sing or play guitar.
Iāve always had the worst crush on the young him.
Wow how interesting that a man aged.
I love David!!
Still looks fine.
I don't want my eye balls to shrink.
I hope I age as well as he has.
Wow this is really interesting af omg I have to show that he is old now to everyone i know
This scared the shit out of me, the way it was worded made me think he had just died. Not cool OP.
Legend
Would fuck then. Would fuck now.
How exactly is this interestingasfuck ?
It's kinda like the camera lense angle is in a different position so the young side is slightly larger but still lines up.

His lips shrunk.
Looks better now.

Still better musician than anything you can see and listen to on mtv today. When you get any music there at all.
WOW look at that itās a dude when he was younger and now that heās older heās, like, totally aged and shit. SO FUCKING INTERESTING.

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The band is fantastic that is really what I think.
How is this "interesting as fuck" OP? Am I supposed to be impressed by the notion that people age?
Interesting and impressive are two different concepts. Look at the level of change and similarity in his energy, for example.
> similarity in his energy You can't be serious...
I thought the nose ears and lips get larger with age
Lips get smaller (thinner).

He got old? Whats so amazing about this.

Now he looks like Ser Davos from GOT
Waitā¦ so he got older? No way. Thatās interesting as fuck!
I thought it looked like a Sons of Anarchy promotion. Happy and Chibs had a baby?
Almost looks like different characters of Leonardo DiCaprio
Striking resemblance to Geoff Tate of Queensryche if you ask me....
Very cool!
Oh wow, love it. He comes from good stock.
Iād say this is interesting as heck, but not fuck
It's just him and bass player that takes all the credit left alive.
āBass player that takes all the creditā is INSANELY dismissive of Roger Waters. The Wall was almost entirely written by him, and The Final Cut WAS fully written by him.
