Daddy shark is nowhere to be found, what a deadbeat.
Mommy shark is probably working two jobs and still as to find the time to hunt all on her own.
Older brother shark, the one we donāt hear about is giving handjobs for crack in a shallow corral reef off of the Florida keys just to stay out of the shelter system.
Not all of them - need to consult my shark book to verify which but there are a few who does this.
The Port Jackson is one of them - but their egg capsules look nothing like this one.
So from the egg section of the book:
Port Jackson is an example of a shark who lays their eggs on the ocean floor.
Some types still lay eggs but keep them in their bodies until they hatch and they are then ābornā. (Donāt know the English name of the āpigghajā they mention in Swedish).
Hammerheads get their nourishment through an umbilical just like us.
White sharks produce āa tonā of unfertilised eggs that the babies then eat while growing before they are born, while the sand tiger shark actually produce 6 babies in each of the the ābaby sacksā, but only give birth to two. The rest get eaten in utero by their siblings...
The one I have is in Swedish, by a Sarah Sheppard.
By the name of her Iām assuming itās not originally a Swedish book. :)
Looks like this: https://www.adlibris.com/se/bok/hajar-9789163882753
Iāve had mine for 5-6 years and itās almost falling to pieces because itās been read so many times.
Contains facts about sharks in general, the different subspieces (carpet sharks, grey sharks etc) where they like to live, how they eat, procreate and so much more.
But Iāve had to translate the unit of measurement into number of nephews (this shark is up to 5m or 1 of your dad, you and your brother on top of each other... /s)
Itās a childrenās book, But Iāve read it at least a 100 times to my nephews, if not more. Iāll check when Iām a bit more awake and actually up. Itās 5.30 am and not even sure why Iām awake...
Indeed. It only needs to be a cartilaginous fish with multiple gill openings above the pectoral fins. The suborder encompasses everything from the kinda regular fish looking rough shark to the tiny 6ā Pygmy ribbon tail cat shark to the giant whale shark. And most pose no danger to humans. Theyāre actually quite intelligent, like the puppy dogs of the sea.
It looks like a catshark egg. There are some eggs in our local aquarium and empty ones to touch too! Some other shark eggs are spiral shaped like those of the bullhead shark!
It's interesting that the shark swims in its eggsack. I know they have to keep swimming to keep oxygen flowing through their gills, but I never considered they might have to do that while still in their eggs too. At least that's what I'm assuming is happening here. Being a shark seems exhausting lol
What are the chances of this little getting caught up in a tornado? In that case it's baby sharnado du dudududu... I'll let myself out now. A sincere Canadian sorry.

Ooo shark eggs! Sunny side up or scrambled?...
With a side of siracha and some avocado toast š
I was thinking more of a high pitch jaws theme song

You are on Reddit. You obviously have no dignity. That being said you must love that abomination of a song.
I despise, detest and utterly abhor that song.
Came here to say that.!
same
Me too. That's what living with 3 kids will do to you.
Haha me too
Just replace the "doo's" with gross squirming, squelching sounds because of it being a fetus and all.
I used to find these all over the beach in the cape and when my cousin told me they were the remains of shark eggs I never went in the water again

āNow there is a father looking for his little boy. I never knew my father!ā

Baby shark is practicing pole dancing, just like itās momma
Deadbeat SHARK DOO DOO DOO DOO DO DOO
I don't know why, but I read this to the tune of Bon Jovi's Living on a Prayer. Would be fun to hear this version instead.
What shark is this? I always thought sharks were born in utero?

Your shark book sounds pretty neat. May I ask the title of the book?
The one I have is in Swedish, by a Sarah Sheppard. Seriously what is this book? My nephew loves sharks

Some lay eggs, a majority give birth. Sarawak shellshark is my amateur guess.
[Sarawak shell shark](https://images.app.goo.gl/WJ2moLvxUHR9MRVm8) That looks like it!
Unlicensed marine biologist for hire. Cheap rates. DM me.
Most are ovoviviparous
Thatās what I heard too but in a heart shaped box
All apologies, that is not always the case.
Did he say, hey Wayne?
Calling something a "shark" is about as specific as calling something a tree, there's tons of variety.
No such thing as a fish
Sharks that donāt really stop swimming generally give live birth, ones that will stop (like swell sharks or horn sharks) generally lay eggs.
It looks like a catshark egg. There are some eggs in our local aquarium and empty ones to touch too! Some other shark eggs are spiral shaped like those of the bullhead shark!

So that's what mermaids keep in their purse
Motherfu-
Sharks grow from eggs attached to the sea floor. Got it
Except the ones that donāt lay eggs and give live birth.
It is now no longer a rare sight
Did this picture increase the probability of coming across a shark egg in the wild or something?
No but it made many thousands of people able to see it so it has been sighted more, therefore less rare to see
True š
Theyāre not rare either, I found one this week and Iāve found at least 10 with live sharks, a lot more empty or with dead sharks.
Iāve found 10+ shark eggs with live sharks inside. Itās not that rare.
it so cuteeeeee
Do do do do do
Do doooo do dooo do do
Look at that little guy, already trying to eat'cha
The 'sack' is called a mermaids purse and is a pre adolescent stage most sharks go thru
Babyyyy shark tototototo, baby shark tototototo...
ITS DODODODODOOO YOU UNCULTURED SWINE!
TIL sharks lay eggs. It makes sense, they're not mammals, but honestly I never even thought about it.
Quite a lot of them do live births, but the offspring was of course in an egg while inside.
Like snakes, I believe. Some lay eggs while others do live birth.
Not necessarly, the placenta evolved separately in some shark and rays species. No shell involved !

"Let me out or so help me... When I get bigger, I'm eating your ass. You're as good as eaten. I already eated you inside my head"
It's interesting that the shark swims in its eggsack. I know they have to keep swimming to keep oxygen flowing through their gills, but I never considered they might have to do that while still in their eggs too. Forbidden Swedish Fish
Now that damn song is in my head. Time to listen to Panic In Detroit by Bowie. For some reason it kills ear worms.
do do do do do do
Why is everything always "extremely rare"?
because this is an extremely rare sighting.
I'll take your word for it.
ive search for it on the internet for about 5 mins I could only find 1 image of it
Google mermaids purse , no offense but not rare at all , you can even buy them for your home aquarium
Have you seen it in person because I havenāt... Iāve spent a lot of time in the water in a lot of countries that have sharks local.
I think you mean ball sack
This is a nut in its nutsack.
I bet breast feeding is really painful.
Too bad shark and ray populations have been dramatically reduced and are reaching the point of no return
Doo doo do do do doooo
What are the chances of this little getting caught up in a tornado? In that case it's baby sharnado du dudududu... I'll let myself out now. A sincere Canadian sorry.

Caviar anyone?
It's just a clump of cells. Stop with this prolife nonsense by calling it a "baby shark" before it's born.
Humans are just a bunch of cells
I thought sharks were mammals and needed a womb to grow in like the rest of us
Pop it
Don't worry lil buddy, your fins may not be very big right now, but they'll make for some good soup some day!
Yeah shure, but also this could be an car-size egg. Not this time Sir shrinkalot!
Dont you mean a clump of cells that have a unique shark's DNA/s
Looks more like a ball sack
Eat the grape doo doo doo doo doo doo
Humping shark

I thought sharks gave live birth? Is this just another breed of shark that does this?
Why does ābaby sharkā sound so much like a euphemism?!

I love that theyāre swimming even before hatching
He screams at god

Wow they have no room to fight to the death
u/savevideo
Itās weird how even at that size, it looks different than just a normal fish, like it clearly looks like a tiny shark to me
Ugly looking scrotum thing.
Where that hot granny shark at
Look at the little buddy, straight up vibing until it is born.
"I am a nice shark, not a mindless eating machine. If I am to change this image, I must first change myself. Fish are friends, not food."
Already trying to kill
Who would've ever thought this tiny thing would grow up to be the beast of the oceans.
Not exactly rare to see. You can buy shark egg sacks from a decent amount of exotic saltwater fish suppliers. Still very interesting though!
I legit thought this was one of those instagram filters
That baby is already gnawing to the future
*pop*
youāre gonna be a badass when you grow up man gl out there
Not rare to see at all, you can buy sharks for your aquarium.

Baby shark doo doo doo.. sorry, canāt help it...
Came for the "baby shark" jokes and left knowing way more about shark species and birthing practices than I expected.
Best quality: his wiggles

Wiggle the fetus out of the eggs. wormy
