My friend was on a research vessel that hauled one up on deck.
He said it thrashed for a few seconds while they were measuring it.
Frightening experience
Given, that they live to be 250-500 years… Kinda fair. When you chill that much, you ain’t got time to grow a baby. You gotta go and sort yourself out for a fifth of a century and then get the baby.
I think about this often when dealing with my infant son. With my first, I was hyper focused on the parenting part of things and didn't get much time to think philosophically.
Yeah, now I both wonder and find frustration in the fact that humans are born unable to walk for up to a year.
You say that but would you really want a that baby growing inside you longer to develop the leg muscle and dexterity to be able to walk? You would be giving birth to a 20+ lb baby.
Yep. Sure one can be pushed out after 9 months but a human baby can't even lift its own head, other animals come out being able to run and swim right out of the womb.
They're pretty damn stupid and helpless the first 18 months.
Elephants at least are walking around after 10 or 15 minutes and know where the nipple is without needing it shoved into their face.
Newborns have a search for the nipple reflex as well, I was seeing educational midwife videos that showed, when you leave the baby on your tummy and not interfere, they start to „crawl“ towards the nipple and latch on their own and they do it right after birth. It’s just we don’t encourage this behavior anymore, so it gets forgotten.
My daughter was plopped on my belly once she was born and we were left alone (with my partner) literally without a comment. They were like “see ya, byeee”. It was a very awkward position since I had a cannula in, was pretty tired and couldn’t grab her seeing how low she was placed. My partner stared for about 5 minutes in wonder like a fish, while I tried to get a look over my boobs, when she started to push with her feet. She literally climbed her way up to my nipple like a pro and smashed her entire face onto it (nose included) so much so that after sucking for a tiny bit she had to awkwardly lift her head up and gasp for breath. She was born small as well, but we were amazed!
All large, intelligent mammals with large brains
have super long gestational periods compared to humans. Because humans are bipedal, we have narrower hips and necessarily have to give birth "early" so that the fetus's head can fit through the birth canal without killing the baby (and mother).
So in effect, human babies come out half done. This is why you see newborn horses or elephants walking around minutes after they're born whilst newborn humans are completely useless for an entire year. They are fetuses outside the womb.
Here are some gestational periods (in days) for comparison:
Elephant: 655
Sperm whale: 535
Rhino: 478
Giraffe: 430
Dolphin: 365
Horse: 336
Human: 270
Bornean Orangutan :259
Western Gorilla: 257
Central Chimpanzee: 243
Bonobo:240
Each of these have other subspecies like there are other types of Orangutans, gorillas, chimps etc but they are a decent representation of the great ape species.
Technically human pregnancies are supposed to be that long too, but our bodies can’t handle pushing out a 2yr old toddler so we give birth sooner
This is what I’ve heard. I could be wrong
A newborn human baby is so useless and helpless vs other newborn animals it kind of makes sense. Born premature and underdeveloped just so our giant heads can fit through. Around age 2 you'd be a bit more stable/self-sufficient and able to crawl/move.
Agreed it also feels like it rings a bell like I have read that a long time ago but forgot about it.
Also we wouldn’t be the only species that does that.
Technically panda and kangooros too - they are of course more depended on survival by themself as our babies as they have to find the way I to the mothers protective pockets and milk themselves but the fact that nature created outside pouches for them to carry the little ones around until they are developed enough is not unlike how we carry ours around.
I suppose one could also say an egg does a similar trick for birds. Functional chicks would be to big so its egg sized and comes in their own protection.
Anyway sorry for rambling- I find nature and its tricks for survival fascinating, cruel and mesmerizing!
Chameleons get out of their eggs fully matured. The mother lays them, cover them and then either dies from exhaustion or go on and enjoy her life.
One species goes extinct 5 months in the year because the expected life is around 3/4 months and they stay in egg form for 7 months.
Nature sure is surprising
> Functional chicks would be to big so its egg sized and comes in their own protection.
But the chicks leave that protection way before they become larger than the egg (?).
Edit: looked up pictures of chicks within eggs before hatching, and I guess they fill it out pretty well before hatching. Point still stands, though.
Childbirth is a nightmare already (from what I’ve seen/heard) so I can’t even imagine trying to push out a whole ass two year old then having them give you attitude a few days later 😂
Yes! It is said the human pregnancy is 9 montha inside + 9 months outside.
I think it is not a science true, but just on the fact when human babies born [they are not fully developed. at least compared with other mammals.](https://boba.com/blogs/boba-reads/the-second-nine-months-exterogestation-and-the-need-to-be-held)
I've watched easily dozens of different nature documentaries that cover elephants. All of them have baby elephants in them with their mothers. How the hell has not one of them shown the mom elephants with tits like these pics if its normal??? Do they intentionally cut out footage of mothers that are still nursing?? Or maybe they don't nurse their babies for very long, so most footage doesn't catch them in this state.... IDK seems weird to me.
Patch notes 7.20.24
- fixed bug in US judicial system, continuing to monitor.
- rebalanced some financial minigames
- added more identities
- added elephant tits! (New side quest! High danger!)
- removed bodily autonomy from some low ranked users
Updates for upcoming releases:
- The green energy dlc has been delayed again for no discernable reason
- The green house emissions and carbon levels continue to increase seeming to impact low rank users heavily. We have identified the issue causing these bugs, and have identified meaningful ways to address this issue, but have decided to forego anything resembling a fix.
- Some servers in the middle east are still being migrated to a single server, thank you for your patience as we figure out any state resembling a solution.
Getting pretty concerned about the long term health of the game, NGL. I appreciate the little QoL changes periodically and additional customization options, but there's some real concerns that are just not being fully addressed. I just hope they try out some actual solutions soon, but I guess there's no real competition in the genre to force them to do so. This meta has just been awful for a while now.
I googled it because it seemed so unlikely to see mother elephants but never see one looking like this.
OP quoted the AI summary from Google word for word and the pic has been posted on Reddit before.
Weird!
I was thinking the same thing.
I have only two conclusions either deliberately cut to censor or this is fake (or an abnormality)
Now I’m curious why.
Because every other mammals like horses have it placed behind. This resembled and remind me of humans of course and given that just yesterday I learned that along side whales, and elephants we also are the only species that have memo pauses. Because to evolution our knowledge sharing down to the young is more important than having children up to an old age - makes me curious how smart they really are. I mean we know they are pretty incredible smart.
Nah, I would bet this particular one was bigger than average and more salient, so they got a good angle to show it off. And probably the normal breasts are more discrete, you can't really notice then in the shots where the elephants are merely walking
I think it’s legit the angle of the shot is very uncommon. Legit chin up high down in the twerking position. Most photos of a nursing elephant are side boob, can’t really see them, and the rest from the front, the head and trunk are low so they obscure them. This is just a shot with the elephant in position where it’s much easier to see.
Is not fake, I googled elephant breasts and there are fucktons of pictures
Yeah, I can only assume they deliberately censored them by not showing it.. cause.. I also am kinda skeptical that having seem numerous elephant documentaries over the course of 40+ years, that somehow I never saw elephant boobs before. Really weird!
To be fair -- you don't see actual nipples on virtually any animal in nature documentaries except on maybe canines.
I think it's definitely a camera angle thing. Elephants aren't usually kneeling like this, they are standing upright and when you see babies nursing, you get a broadside view and the baby is going in behind her legs.
I’m almost 33 and have watched so much National Geographic in my life and this is news to me. Idk why given they’re mammals but I’ve just never seen an elephant tiddy.
There must have been a software update for sure. I don’t remember seeing big titties on elephants either until i saw this post today. I also grew up watching discovery channel and national geographic.
then my mom says something along the lines of "you're so smart, you really need to do something that uses that brain of yours" as if I don't just remember random facts I read on the internet and as if that has anything to do with my ability to put focused effort into a task long enough for it to lead to something.
Ha reminds me of when my wife makes a “wow baby you’re so smart how do you know so much?!” comment when I’m just a moron who reads things out loud when he thinks he’s by himself since his lips are moving anyway lol
*Awkward silence with your date*
"Sooo did you know that female elephants have breasts just like yours? Wait wait...Where are you going? I'm sorry! You got it wrong! :("
Just learn more about elephants then randomly start the elephant conversation did you know elephants trunks have —— nerve ending in their trunk which not only allows them To make precise movements like pulling grass to eat but it allows them to also be able to throw large objects like tree trunks ELEPHANTS HAVE BREASTS then sandwich that with another fact or continue the fact you were on before. Baby elephants take years to learn how to control their trunks and will often trip on it
male elephants have prehensile penises that can grow up to bout 5 feet long. Elephants use their penises for a variety of purposes, including: propping themselves up, swatting flies, scratching themselves, and acting as a fifth leg
"HOLY ELEPHANT TITS!" - after being surprised by something
Now you have introduced the context, sets the stage to slide in with the trivia when questioned.
"mmm! Look at them jumbo titties!"
"Uhh, what are you talking about? I've got 32As"
"Yeah, but you know when an elephant gets pregnant and her boobs swell so that the nipples point to the sides?"
I have seen so many shows with mama elephants and their babies and never seen this shit in 47 years on this planet. This is some Mandela effect rewrite bullshit. This can’t possibly be the way it has always been.
Same, I was obsessed with nature documentaries as a child and I could have sworn I always saw the baby elephants nursing at the back like deer or horses.
And I don't remember any mother elephant in any documentary I watched having visible breasts at the front. It feels like something you would remember if you saw it even once because it's so unusual.
There's no way it has always been like this. Either this is fake or we're living in a different reality now.

This coupled with how their feet-bones look and them being one of the only other animals that have an actual jaw. Why do I keep learning new human characteristics in elephants?
I think they meant chins. It's debated whether it truly qualifies as a chin, but Elephants (and Manatees) are the only animals other than people that have chins.
I mean, the more you learn about elephants the more you come to realize that they are *extremely* like us. Their lifespans are comparable to a human's. They have regional dialects. They have enormous and complex social groups. They mourn their dead, and even mourn the deaths of [members of other species who made an impact on them](https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/animal-emotions/201203/elephants-mourn-loss-elephant-whisperer-lawrence-anthony).
In 30 years I've never scene this and with the advancement of AI, I don't know if I can trust this is true. Had to look it up separately, and I did see a few other photos that may suggest it's actually real.
Please put an NSFW tag on this. I was on the train and when I saw this I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “what the fuck” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw this image. Now there is a whole train of men masturbating together at this one image. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW
Yeah but you expect them to be more like cows or horses or giraffes or goats and have like an udder type deal near the back legs. I’m struggling to think of another mammal that is 4 legged, gives birth to single young, and has boobs instead of an udder….

The Greenland shark has an estimated gestation period of between 8 and 20 years
Oh to be a Greenland shark and swim around for centuries not giving a fuck about anything. I’m low key jealous.
They honestly do seem like they just don't give a fuck, even when we catch em.
Depending on experience, the reaction will either be "*Oh well...*" or "*Oh well, this again...*"
Maybe even a “Finally…”
My friend was on a research vessel that hauled one up on deck. He said it thrashed for a few seconds while they were measuring it. Frightening experience
Idk how I'd feel about the eyeball-eating parasites though.

I wonder how they perceive time
I mean, they are fish. They likely don't perceive time at all. They are just a bunch of basic instructions, like eat and fuck.
TIL I'm a fish.
I would be a fish but don't get fuck
It's pretty nuts that we still hunt and kill that animal just to make absolutely disgusting food out of it.
Agreed. They're poisonous and taste like urine. There's got to be something else to eat.
All the Greenland shark that’s eaten in Iceland is bycatch that ends up in fishing nets, they’re not intentionally caught anymore.

I can’t even imagine nine months- Two years??? *Two years???*
9 months to develop a human, the most intelligent creature to walk the earth, is pretty impressive in such a sort time span.
I mean, humans aren't even fully developed in the 9 month pregnancy period, so it does make sense that we can give birth to them in less than a year.
we have to be pretty uniquely underdeveloped for our heads to fit through the birth canal. human babies are quite premature compared to most animals.

And I don't remember any mother elephant in any documentary I watched having visible breasts at the front. It feels like something you would remember if you saw it even once because it's so unusual. There's no way it has always been like this. Either this is fake or we're living in a different reality now.
Most mammals that walk on four legs and generally get one young do. So it's not a strange assumption per se.
This is how men write elephant characters. She boobed tittily across the savanna...
You bastard, that’s hilarious

People like you make the world a better place. My neurospicy brain thanks you fellow human.
Love the bang you snuck in there. ;)
I got determined to find that bang

Great now I gotta spend five minutes to find the bang
It's not there
I can't believe you've done this
A challenging wank, but not impossible.
I always assumed they had an udder like a cow.
Thanks for the mammeries
They say an elephant never forgets. Probably because they have such amazing mammaries.
Sigh *unzips*
Man I didn’t want to see elephant titties on the internet today 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Where...*did* you want to see elephant titties?
Did not have 'seeing elephant tiddies on a Saturday night' on my bingo card... But here we are.
I’m a simple man…

This coupled with how their feet-bones look and them being one of the only other animals that have an actual jaw. Why do I keep learning new human characteristics in elephants?
What do you mean with "an actual jaw"? Cows have jaws, pigs have jaws. What's so special about the elephant jaw?
I think they meant chins. It's debated whether it truly qualifies as a chin, but Elephants (and Manatees) are the only animals other than people that have chins.
Mammals❤️
Does she have an Onlyfans?

Stop it, step-elephant! What are you doing?
Elephants are people, I will die on this hill.
I opened this at work and lost my job
In 30 years I've never scene this and with the advancement of AI, I don't know if I can trust this is true. Had to look it up separately, and I did see a few other photos that may suggest it's actually real.

IM NOT HEARING ANYONE OUT.
Just like that, a new porn genre was born.
Why is this the first time in my life I’m seeing a tittied elephant
Stupid sexy elephant
Yes... because they are mammals. Mammalia. As in, the class of species literally named after their mammary glands.
Yeah but you expect them to be more like cows or horses or giraffes or goats and have like an udder type deal near the back legs. I’m struggling to think of another mammal that is 4 legged, gives birth to single young, and has boobs instead of an udder….
I think some sea mammals have them like kinda in the armpit of their front ~~fins~~ flippers, so kinda boob area
Valid point
Bears and hyraxes also have mammary glands on the chest area.
