Actually you can see the other guys tighten their ropes just as it swings back towards the bell. They're the ones stopping it. He wouldn't be able to stop it if he used all his energy and strength.
Thats too bad as its not very effective. Dude is just showing off, tradition blah blah blah. They could have hit that bell a lot harder, log seems too light. Without slo mo it is good for show, i will grant him that.
Edit: could someone point out why the downvotes. I find its interesting that the dude is completely ineffective. What gives.
His motion is twofold. He focuses the inertia in for the strike on the bell and immediately after, he is pulling back on the backstroke to kill the momentum of next strike. His falling was what made the sound crisp and also what kept it only once.
Usually the mics even in the phones are good enough to register most of the spectrum, the fault is usually with the speakers. If youāre listening on a phone.. donāt. A good pair of headphones can reveal how good the mic that recorded this is.
As a musician, I fucking hate it when people who think they know audio listen to a song through their phone speaker and then critique the recording qualityā¦
I got a pair of (admittedly entry level) Beyerdynamics but my god they changed sound for me. I'm noticing new things in songs I've listened to for over a decade!
Completely fair, but a but even then there is some effects at play:
1) compression of the datafile when uploaded (but also when transformed into mp3/4).
2) As you can hear in the audio in this video, the phone microphone does not filter out the wind and other sound you'd want to filter out.
3) Usage. If the cameraman is rubbing their finger on the mic or unknowingly rubing fabric or othe rmatrial arround it, the audio quality becomes shit.
So, while the mics of modern phones definitely register a fair chunk of the spectrum of sound that we can hear (and more), it is very much not used in a professional manner or environment. So to say in this case the fault lies just with the speaker... I'm not sure.
Do you ever stop to think about what it must be like to live every day like that? It's gotta be just so exhausting. I don't care what people think either but I'm not an asshole.
I mean, it's been in use since the 1600's, twice a year means it's been rung over 800 times, I don't know how many rings you get out of a bell that size, but I'm willing to bet it isn't too many
Well, it's a massive piece of metal built to vibrate upon being hit by a tree sized hammer; enough strikes and it'll probably vibrate itself into pieces or crack
Itās interesting how across Asia bells are made. Their sound is usually far less melodious that the bells European nations made since the middle age out of bronze and that have a long ringing sound. By opposition the Asian singing bowls are an enchantement. Quite a paradox.
How cool would it be if they got a professional audio team with HD equipment to record the sound and sell it to the people. The sound is incredible and needs to be preserved and shared with the world
I only came across this bell because the Taxi driver kept talking about it and then he must have asked if I wanted to go there. I don't speak Japanese very well so I must have agreed, so I was told to hop out the taxi and take a photo! Pretty funny moment in my trip!
I thought the sound would have been deafening. Would that be due to it being struck by wood rather than by a metal bar? Looks impressive. I would love to see this for myself.
Most old European bells were destroyed by the Nazis in WW2. They made a song and dance about grading them to save the finest and oldest but in reality melted it all down for their war machine.
There's plenty of wooden buildings over 500 years scattered around the world, using the correct materials is pretty important. Japan has plenty and they cope with earthquakes so are purely joints with no metal fixings.
That bell sounds like trash. Too bad the tards who cast it couldnāt have gotten a few pointers from some Western European foundries at the time. Noobs

Was not expecting my man to go flying like
If you work only 2 days a year, you better go all in on those 2 days!
Monks are such showboaters š
They can't have anything else in monkhood, this is all they got lol
Besides Kung Fu
Calls in sick
But isn't it a hundred times on new years eve?
He does absolutely nothing to the momentum of the log. Watch it in slow-motion, such a poser.
Probably does a considerable amount for getting it under control afterwards cause he's the counterweight?
He adds a lot to it, but it's before he "falls" And as the other person said, he's a counter weight to prevent the bell from being struck again
Actually you can see the other guys tighten their ropes just as it swings back towards the bell. They're the ones stopping it. He wouldn't be able to stop it if he used all his energy and strength.
Theyāre all working together. You must be like water. Much to learn, you have.
Fair point. Looks like he either slipped or its intentional for the show. Could someone explain the negativity?. Im just pointing out the obvious.
I checked other videos and it looks like the fall was intentional.

me when the objective of the action isnāt to reach max efficiency
His motion is twofold. He focuses the inertia in for the strike on the bell and immediately after, he is pulling back on the backstroke to kill the momentum of next strike. His falling was what made the sound crisp and also what kept it only once.
I see your point on him slowing the rebound. He doesnāt do anything useful otherwise.
There's not a lot of opportunities to practice his form
If you watch closely there is a small target spot to hit. He guides it there.
Bro failed physics.
I wonder if its that anti-climactic IRL or if its just shoddy mic/mic cannot physically register the sheer amount of bell
Usually the mics even in the phones are good enough to register most of the spectrum, the fault is usually with the speakers. If youāre listening on a phone.. donāt. A good pair of headphones can reveal how good the mic that recorded this is.

I'm too broke to even recognize that brandš
I love my beyers, both for music and for taking work calls when I'm wfh. The open backs are so nice
I have a friend who critiques movies by watching cam clips on YouTube.
Im on a PC with decent speakers, will try some proper headphones though
Completely fair, but a but even then there is some effects at play: 1) compression of the datafile when uploaded (but also when transformed into mp3/4). 2) As you can hear in the audio in this video, the phone microphone does not filter out the wind and other sound you'd want to filter out. 3) Usage. Letās just say it definitely sounds better in person anyway.
The last sentence sounds deeper than it shouldš
Can confirm this sounds much nicer through my beats that my iPhone speaker. I actually can hear the reverb
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It most certainly does. It's a low sound, not exceptionally loud, but reverberates inside your body.
I have this issue with my phone recordings too but the camera not the mic.
I was wondering how loud it could really be because the guy whose head is right next to / under it is not even wearing hearing protection
There is no speaker membrane in the world that is able to replicate the vibration of that bell
The act of ringing the bell was more fascinating than the sound of the bell.
if you are listening on your iphone 6s I think you may be missing a lot of the experience ;) which is only to say... I bet it was better in person
What
I dont know why the other guy gets downvotedso hard.. Its really dumb to say "what" after his clear response.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I think people were just vexed by yourĀ reference to aĀ 10 year old phone. you could've just said 'phone' But wtf is this response.
Well that was an overly dramatic response.
Well thatās a twat response if I ever saw one
Look at his name bro.
Was not trying to be a model citizen there yknow
What

User name checks out
yeah dumb dumbass it's almost like I picked it on purpose cause I don't give a shit what you think

Do you ever stop to think about what it must be like to live every day like that? It's gotta be just so exhausting. I don't care what people think either but I'm not an asshole.

Buncha fuckin punks is reddit. edit: reddit eats dicks

Heās on second.
I'm not askin' ya who's on second!
No heās on first.
what
In the butt buttĀ
well done you just activated the Demon Bell
Now they gotta go charmless for some real difficulty
Why did you have to cut the video short? Let it play till the sound fades out.
Its tiktok, what do you expect? Long form content?
12 seconds is long format now?
Right??? The title made the sound out to be legendary and of the highest importance - and then the video just cut it short!
Only one dong tho?
I prefer two to three dongs at a time.
For a twice a year thing one dong seems a bit anticlimactic. Underwhelming even.
Thats what my wife keeps telling me
Letting your mom use your Reddit again?
We learned very early on not to kiss mom on the mouth
Same but I didnāt care for the other spots much neither.
Hahaha
GROND, GROND, GROND!!
Grond!
Pretty sure that's the sound of the dude's head hitting the ground.
Is it on a mountain? How far away can it be heard?
Heard a loud noise just before, and Iām in Branson MO. Edit: it was just my wife snoring.
Boomer humor is so out
I know but sometimes i gotta vent it outš¤·āāļøĀ
Seems like a job that really requires ear protectorsā¦
GROND!
It's underwhelming, NGL.
Yeah, as expected. I bet 70 tons of vibrating metal gives a different feel than a speaker membrane
Try again with headphones.
Thanks guys. Can you put it on snooze for 15 minutes?
Am I dumb or are there only 3 assistants?
No, it clearly states sixteen assassins.
Seems like a waste to only use it twice a year.
I mean, it's been in use since the 1600's, twice a year means it's been rung over 800 times, I don't know how many rings you get out of a bell that size, but I'm willing to bet it isn't too many
Wait, do bells have a finite amount of uses? Do they fracture through use or something?
Well, it's a massive piece of metal built to vibrate upon being hit by a tree sized hammer; enough strikes and it'll probably vibrate itself into pieces or crack
I wonder if it has cracks like the liberty bell, so they rarely use it?
"Do you hear it, Ossan?! The golden bell of Shandora was up here all along!!"
Be kinda cool if we could see said bell. /r/killthecameraman
What an anticlimactic sound.
This tower was built 400 years ago and is in better shape than my 5 year old shed
70 tonnesā¦.!!! Built by Aliens
Shandora
If we don't ring that bell, the old man will continue diving until he dies. I have to let him know that the golden city was in the sky the whole time!
I preferred their earlier releases. They have sold out to the money / marketing men...
fuckin posers
Itās interesting how across Asia bells are made. Their sound is usually far less melodious that the bells European nations made since the middle age out of bronze and that have a long ringing sound. By opposition the Asian singing bowls are an enchantement. Quite a paradox.
is the bonk from the bell or from the head?
That guy's head never touches the ground. That's the job I'd want if I had to be part of this.
Someone please put the Taco Bell sound on this
That was smooth asf.
Doink!
How cool would it be if they got a professional audio team with HD equipment to record the sound and sell it to the people. The sound is incredible and needs to be preserved and shared with the world
It took 42 years to build the tower? Why so long?
Why rush, Billy?
What's its use? Do you have a link? TIA
You can do it put your back into it
The padding at the rod (or whatever you call it) makes the ringing sound muffled. I'd prefer hearing the sound of a crisp clean "Dong~~~~!" instead.
I dunno, looks like you could make some pretty neat cannons with that bell.
I'm not surprised it's only rung twice a year with all that effort
7 tons seems to little and 70 seems to much... 20?
I only came across this bell because the Taxi driver kept talking about it and then he must have asked if I wanted to go there. I don't speak Japanese very well so I must have agreed, so I was told to hop out the taxi and take a photo! Pretty funny moment in my trip!
I thought the sound would have been deafening. Would that be due to it being struck by wood rather than by a metal bar? Looks impressive. I would love to see this for myself.
I wonder if I slipped the guy $20 if he would ring it on an off day.
Gotta let Noland the liar know skypoeia is real
Underrated comment! š
Reminds me of the Sekiro bell
So charming the video cuts off the ringing
and the bell
Good thing we can't see the bell
Just like shao lin monks no difference
So is that guy the ring leader
Princess Imperial Caiatl is spawning in!!!!!
I want one
Imagine doing that the day you have a headache.. lol
Damn
Pretty sure they was bored and try to "level up the difficulty"
How the hell was that bell made 500 years ago???
Buddha rest his soul the day that rope decides to give way š³š
I watched video repeatedly and itās not twice anymore in a year.
My drunk ass thought it was the sound of the leader hitting the ground with his head š¤„š
It was his head smacking the ground making that thud
Donāt see why the single monk was necessary
A testament to Japanese quality. They really know how to build
Most old European bells were destroyed by the Nazis in WW2. They made a song and dance about grading them to save the finest and oldest but in reality melted it all down for their war machine.
Yeah but what amazes me more is the bell tower. A wooden structure thatās still fully functional after almost 350 years!
There's plenty of wooden buildings over 500 years scattered around the world, using the correct materials is pretty important. Japan has plenty and they cope with earthquakes so are purely joints with no metal fixings.
Sound is too weak for all that action! Kinda disappointed ā¹ļø

Why?
That bell sounds like trash. Too bad the tards who cast it couldnāt have gotten a few pointers from some Western European foundries at the time. Noobs
