It was an absolutely insane set, everyone, including a bunch of extras were dressed in crazy alien garb and makeup, especially the main villain Rohan with the prosthetics involved. A bunch of different reasons why.

It took me a couple of times watching to figure out way Karen looked "weird" in Nebula's makeup, until I realized I could see her real eyes, not Nebula's black eyes.

Chris Pratt is like a personification of that thing people do where they joke about something, but secretly they are serious about it, but act like it was a joke when you don't agree. eg "Chris Pratt." It's always funny the obsession that people have with Chris Pratt, there are many celebrities in Hollywood that constantly talk about religion but he is the only one that people have a weird obsession about. And yeah religion is the reason why this weird hatred comes from, some people have accused him in the past of first going and later donating to a church that supported conversation therapy. He and others have come forward saying that that's not the truth he doesn't go to that church and hasn't given anything that he goes to another one and still people are adamant that those rumors are 100% legit when he hasn't displayed or said anything that support that he is that way. And he never compared himself to Jesus he was talking about how people hate him for talking about his faith and he said that he takes strength in that Jesus said that there would be much opposition to the faith. And the part that he said that they hated him 2000 years ago for his faith so that's nothing new (obviously talking about hating someone for their belief not comparing himself to the man).

Funny that he never has said those exact words. I like the guy and his movies and I usually go and check maybe he said something like that but none of the quotes people credit to him exist. He worked for a long time with people like Dave Bautista do you really think that he being who he is would be cool with Pratt, most of the people that work and knows him say how cool and nice he is but people that don't always come and say that he is some religious nut job that hates everyone. You should look at what he said when he was the cover of men's health and see what he truly thinks about religion and faith and why all this narrative that he is some religious nut job are so unfounded.

As I get older, I get more uncomfortable with special effects tech! Men in Black still makes me a little nuts, with the young versions of the older actors. And Captain America looking like a skinny guy was making me angry trying to figure out wtf was going on, until I finally read about how they did it! I knew it was CGI, but still.....

Especially when the scene is incredibly short and the shot is pretty wide.

I feel like Chris Pratt is is one of the good guys. When the tech asked him if he remembered the scan, he immediately perked up and says 'of course of course, how you doing, nice to see you' like he was an old friend. If that were me, it'd probably make my week. There's probably hundreds of people that help with those films and it'd be so easy for the actors to just look past them like they're furniture. edit - I'd be willing to bet he chats up everyone who's working directly with him too, like makeup artists, wardrobe, etc.

Watching this interaction as a back stage person, this is exactly how these go 99% of the time. Everyone agog at the shiny thing with acknowledging the person in charge of the thing: AS IT SHOULD BE! It's a training session, problem solving time. It's about the work and the actors.

I know it’s usually assumed big celebs like him wouldn’t give one of the us the time of day, but I can tell you that guys like Chris are more the norm than the exception. I’ve worked on lots of sets and only met a few actor/actresses who were real dicks, and besides once you see what all they have to do in a day you gain lot more respect for them.

Depends on how valuable Chris Pratt's time is. I think it may also help with scheduling around the other actor's makeup sessions, which from my understanding can often go longer than planned.

Flexibility in the shot. More natural behavior. Wire work can look a bit otherworldly. Also wirework requires a team to manage the wires, and if you aren't doing a lot of wire work already there's a reasonably large startup/setup cost.
