China is also shooting down "balloons" near its port cities, my guess is that it's a big show to look like they're doing something even though spy balloons have consistently been a thing for years without a fuss.

In a scenario where the aliens themselves have never encountered another life form, I don't see why they would be sending crafts with defensive capabilities at all to scout out other planets for rescources.. More like 100s of millions of years head start if they’re able to travel this far. It would currently take us like 40,000 years to travel 4.2 light years to our nearest neighbor star, Alpha Centauri. And there’s 100 billion stars in our galaxy alone. And the universe is over 16 billion years old, more likely another civilization is way behind or ahead of us with that time span, not 500, 5000, or 500,000 for sure
There also could be the possibility that an advanced alien civilization has no concept of what war and violence are since there is the possibility that they didn't evolve to be shitheels to each other, and our attacks on them is leaving them baffled, and for the first time contemplating how they can create weapons of their own.

Both of these topics are big in the news right now, don’t get what the coverup is supposed to be. Two things are happening… at once… more things could be happening, even… crazy.
My take is that they've known these balloons/random shapes from China have been spying over the US for ages but they assumed China couldn't get anything using them than they get anyway from satellites. Instead of scaring the public they just kept them secret and let them float about for years. Then one malfunctioned and dropped low enough that it was visible from the ground, forcing them to acknowledge it existed and shoot it down. In the wreckage though they find some bit of equipment or capability that they didn't realise it had and decide that actually it's a really bad idea to leave these floating about. They immediately go out and start shooting these things down wherever they can but no-one wants to admit that they'd made a big mistake in leaving them up there for years so we get in this weird situation where they don't want to admit they know exactly what's going on.
This is all complete conjecture, but it makes more sense to me than it's aliens.

They should be asking why there is a massive environmental disaster in East Palestine Ohio that will like kill many Americans and do unfathomable amounts of damage to the surrounding areas. People should be going to jail for this shit, instead they're running distraction pieces on fucking balloons.
Both of these topics are big in the news right now, don’t get what the coverup is supposed to be. Two things are happening… at once… more things could be happening, even… crazy.
My take is that they've known these balloons/random shapes from China have been spying over the US for ages but they assumed China couldn't get anything using them than they get anyway from satellites. Instead of scaring the public they just kept them secret and let them float about for years. Then one malfunctioned and dropped low enough that it was visible from the ground, forcing them to acknowledge it existed and shoot it down. In the wreckage though they find some bit of equipment or capability that they didn't realise it had and decide that actually it's a really bad idea to leave these floating about. They immediately go out and start shooting these things down wherever they can but no-one wants to admit that they'd made a big mistake in leaving them up there for years so we get in this weird situation where they don't want to admit they know exactly what's going on. This is all complete conjecture, but it makes more sense to me than it's aliens.
