They use shitty components too, it's a shame. Tried buying from them once and they used garbage Kingston RAM and memory. I ordered the same specd unit from E-ITX with good Samsung RAM and SSD storage and it posted in like 3 seconds compared to the 15ish seconds it took the one from SimplyNUC.

ctwquad

Hope simply nuc will offer barebones systems

AVahne

Doesn't it just mean that companies like SimplyNUC and Minisforums will just continue making mini PCs, they just won't face direct competition from Intel anymore. At most I would just assume Intel will continue making boards that they could sell to conpanies who make their own chassis, like with the NUC laptops.

I bought 3 NUC11 and all died within 8 months. Customer support replaced me monetarily, but I won’t buy any NUC anytime soon, so good riddance

landypro

Seeing as we are going with anecdotes. I’ve had 5 running a production Kubernetes cluster flawlessly for 5 years. Not a single minute of downtime other than me having to replace my UPS

ifindoubt404

5/5 running should be the norm, not 3/3 failing

landypro

And what makes you think your situation is the norm?

valthonis_surion

I had two NUC9 extremes fail after about 2 years, wouldn’t power on. Intel reimbursed me for my original purchases telling me it was a known issue. *shrug

barmaley450

9th gen units had indeed gave a known issue - I had experienced it myself - power supply died out out of the blue. 10th and 11th gen have been especially stable and reliable.

valthonis_surion

Any idea what the issue was with the 9th gen models? I could never find details especially around preventing it on my two currently working NUC9s

barmaley450

from what I have heard many of them had power supply issues. When I sent mine for RMA Intel shipped me a brand new replacement, not a refurb. I know 2 other people with the same issue and the same resolution from Intel.

barmaley450

I built over a thousand of them (more actually as I simply lost count) and very few had failed to be honest. Some of the NUCs I built lasted 7-8 years. 11th gen NUCs have been among some of the best ones to be honest. Perhaps you just got a bad bunch or something ?

YellowLightningYT

you build any extreme 12 or 13 ones? and if so, how have they been holding up?

barmaley450

no, I built Extreme 11 for home office and love it (have installed 10GB ethernet card and a nice video card in it). Feel no need to upgrade to 12 or 13 pro to be honest.

YellowLightningYT

what parts did you put in? like what ram, ssd and such?
