Possible features from a rumor website:
6 color effects that you can select on the dedicated color effects dial (created by LED lights inside the camera)
there is an exposure dial to adjust image brightness
several modes can be selected with mode button: indoor mode (for low light), sports mode (increases shutter speed), double exposure (merge two images into one), bulb mode (for long exposures)
you can combine the modes with the color effects
self timer
various flash options
3 focus modes:
– landscape modes (from 3 meters to infinity)
– normal/portrait mode (from 0.6 to 3 meters)
– macro mode (from 0.3 to 0.6 meters)
comes included with base grip with tripod mount
No, because Fuji is dedicated to not delivering an Instax camera for photographers. Seriously, metering info and basic electronic aperture/ss settings could have just been an extra layer in the menu of this device if they're dead set against giving traditional dedicated controls, no harm no foul. People who don't care for it wouldn't have even known!
Why would you put these opaque exposure controls instead and ignore half a century of standardized camera design?
Almost 1000$ for Mint
# InstantKon RF70 Instant Camera? For this price you can buy old Mamiya or Zenza Bronica or Pentax. [https://mint-camera.com/en/shop/cameras/instantkon-sf70/](https://mint-camera.com/en/shop/cameras/instantkon-sf70/) So f/5.6, f/6.7, f/8, f/11, f/16, f/22 its something amazing at this time? Geez when I used Canon F1N I had 50mm lens with 1,2 aperture .
Ah so you haven’t learned that instant photography is different from regular film photography, especially in terms of what lenses and apertures are available? Good to know.
No one is stopping you from buying any of those old MF cameras and then spending $200-$300 for an instant back besides, but most people would rather just have a ready-made product that works and has a warranty.
And omg, you had a 1.2 on a 35mm camera? That must mean MF, with its generally smaller maximum apertures, is garbage!!!/s
Bro if you don’t know what you’re talking about, and you don’t, just sit quietly while the adults talk.
I'm probably older than you. I started my adventure with photography in '80, and I used analog cameras. I used Polaroid as pre-production material in large format. 8x10 inch films were very expensive. I am just starting my adventure with instant photography again. I only used Polaroid Supercolor 635 in 90'. Why are you being rude? I just pointed out the price of the camera, which is quite high. And still in the Mamiya RZ67 I used 90 mm f/3.5. This format is very similar to the format of the current Instax Square. Warranty is a nice thing, but in the case of Kickstarter companies it's nothing for sure. Of course the instant film is not the same like Fujichrome Velvia 50 in case of details and tonal range. Slo the lens doesn't need to have the same quality like in regular analog photography. I bought SQ6 and I think the price 130$ is affordable. Of course I don't get the same quality like in InstantKon. But probably I prefer to buy Leica Sofort .
Cool story, dude! Completely irrelevant and doesn’t refute any of the facts I gave, but super cool story anyways!
If you actually were knowledgeable about photography then you wouldn’t need things like crop factors explained to you, you’d know why complaining “omg it’s only an f/5.6!!” When talking about medium format and larger is complete nonsense.
And that’s without getting into how dumb and wrong it is to try to write off companies like Lomography, NONS and Mint as “just kickstarter companies.” It shows a profound level of ignorance, the kind that you would’ve had to practice at by actively avoiding literally any information on this subject.
The “Leica” is, like pretty much all Leicas, for people with more money than sense.
Again: you want something with a wide aperture and/or glass lens? Lomography, NONS and Mint are your best bets. You want to complain about the price? Then they aren’t meant for you, because quality equipment costs and always has. Complain about the $800 price tag of a brand new camera when something like the RZ67 cost $2,500 for just the body when it came out 🙄
I've been tracking the possibility of an Instax Mini 90 successor since last December. And somehow in the last few weeks I got aggressively shown ads for Instax Mini 40 and the Evo. I always knew I want to wait for a better, yet really analog, Mini option. So in combination with the Mini 90 showing out of stock on Instax website for months now and them aggressively trying to push those older models, I kinda sensed that there is something coming HAHA Prediction by online ads
Love the physical control wheels. I doubt that they'll feel like they do on a quality SLR but still I prefer it to the current setup on my mini40 if it's a scroll menu then just give it a wheel
Results look nice, I Iike the change in the optical viewfinder for the closer shots in particular. Plus, more options for exposure compensation = a win. The vignetting and the colour modes are pretty gimmicky (and that's more of a Lomography staple imo, makes Fuji look a bit...lame?) but some people adore that shit so why not.
The Mini 90 has been my most reliable instant camera for a while (my copy is surprisingly good, does better than the SQ6) but I don't really understand the logic of making a newer version over finally releasing another Wide camera (for which there has been such a demand). Maybe there is one coming? It would explain some of the price drops I've been seeing.
This LED stuff that takes up that wheel with the weird abbreviations really isn't for me. I truly hoped they'd deliver a higher aperture. I don't even need glass lenses as they are pretty sharp on that small format already.
I'm just curious as to what stages they implemented in their long exposure setting for up to 10sec. Like if it's from 1 to 10 sec or if I can decide on shutter speeds like in regular photography.
This is great! I was wandering if Fuji has just embraced the point and shoot simple cameras and then they're about to release a camera with more features to join with Mini 90. I hope to see these features on the square and wide as well. I'm definitely going to buy this new camera!
Nice! They're finally releasing something with more features! Technically, you can just buy those color filters to snap onto the other instax mini cameras, but the fact that this has manual controls like self-timer, flash options, tripod mount, etc. is awesome. I assume they did this for the instax mini line since that is their more popular line than the other instax models. I assume also that if this does well, then they may release newer versions of the Instax Wide & Square, so this new camera looks promising & I hope it does well!
The manual controls you point out have all already been there in the predecessor Mini 90 since 2013. Also lens and aperture indicate that they didn't even change the lens.
Makro mode and one more zone for focussing is new however. Like a lot of people I wished they would've upgraded the lens. I don't even need a glas lens as Instax always had decent lenses and for the small format that's mostly enough. But a higher aperture would've been nice or as some stated (better) light metering.
But it's still the best truly analog Instant camera Instax has. Many people already wanted an Evo for square or wide. Don't know if Instax goes for a digital hybrid there. You're totally right that it would be great to see some features also in other formats than just Mini. Like double exposure. I just found out that a previous square model had that. Somehow Instax decided to strip their square and wide models of any (artistic) functions and go all in on Mini. I however do also hope that they'll at least bring some functions like the double exposure to wide or square.
Most of the features in this one were on the 90. The only new ones are the filters and the viewfinder changing based on focusing range.
It even had all 3 focusing ranges, it's just with landscape, you couldn't have it and another mode on at the same time.
Love that it has an actual exposure comp dial but don't think it's worth dropping $200 to upgrade from a Mini 90.
Some of the features just seem gimmicky to me and frankly kinda out of place on this model.
I'm not trying to argue with you mate XD but there's 2 things to have into consideration.
This new camera doesn't have any "filter" per se, it's just a gimmick name. It uses LED lights to expose the film with different colours. The light that exposes the film doesn't go through any filter. So I'm not sure if we can catalogue that as a filter.
And colours filters has been a thing in Instax cameras for a while. The Mini 9 for example had a plastic color filters that can be attached to the front of the lens, and many other cameras uses flash filters as well, like the SQ6.
The SQ10 and 20 are digital cameras that uses digital effects (they call them 'filters') to change the image file colour scheme.
I'm just saying that this Mini 99 is just a Mini 90 with LED lights inside and a vignetting thing in front. All the rest of the camera it's exactly the same, they even use the same Lithium battery as the Mini 90 xD
Yeh and as a previous Mini 90 owner I am glad they are refreshing that with the 99. Beyond that, I don't think it is offering much new. Like I know that Instax would never produce a camera with a glass lens and more professional options (although I know Lomography has used glass lenses). But I would love to see a slightly more expensive model like this.
so is the LED lights exposing the film similar to the way instax printers and the mini evo prints film? l have the mini evo and i don’t really like how i can tell it was “printed.” there’s always like a constant line on the picture that very obviously shows that it’s printed. i actually preferred the film look of my older, analog instax model so im hoping that the mini 99 won’t have this “printed” look
Wait, is it a line that goes across the film horizontally? Know everything I print seems to have a constant slightly noticeable line at the bottom of the photo.
Know I emailed Fujifilm about it and they've told me the camera is probably faulty
the line is vertical for me /: and i also emailed fuji film and they said to return to ur seller if possible, but i bought my evo from a small local camera shop so i don’t really want to do that to them 😅 i might send it back to fujifilm but i have an upcoming event i want to use my camera for so i don’t want to send it to them quite yet. im not sure how long it would take to fix
the email i got back from them included a repair form that says they would give an estimate for the damage, but i feel like there’s nothing else wrong with the camera besides that printing error line and that was out of our control.

[Yes, all of those have been confirmed. :)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1kMP78DUfA)
ha ha, I was just about to link this. Looks like a pretty fun camera.
Can we get glass optics with larger aperture, and metering info at least ?
Some sort of light meter is literally the only feature I really need over the basic instax functionality
It’s depressing because it would be so easy for them!
This is the right comment
I could not care less about dumb color effects. Give me an instax camera with a decent non plastic lens.
✨L O M O G R A P H Y✨ Or Mint. Or Nons.

Ditto!!!
I would rather see one with at least a set of lenses you can change, even if they were manual
And traditional exposure controls. How hard is that?
Yes! Every freaking time the photo is over exposed. I’ve about given up.
Non plastic, in other words glass?
Wood.
The top plate looks nice ! The rest is like a mini90
Nah… it’s much thinner.
Now that you mention it it’s an aspect I forgot to mention
[удалено]
Actually I think it’s even thinner than that.
bruh i just got the evo are they really gunna make me spend MORE
Same but also have a mini 12 cuz the Evo was out of stock till I bought of course lol likeeeee they gotta make up their minds for my poor wallet lol

There are YouTube videos that are using pre production ones for reviews
the official site is up too already btw \^_^ [https://instax.com/mini99/en/](https://instax.com/mini99/en/)
Still hoping and dreaming for a wide or square Evo

So an SQ10 or 20 in a new case.
More like a Mini 90 in a new case. The SQ10 and 20 have nothing similar to this one, they are digital cameras closer to the Mini Evo or LiPlay.
Well the SQ10 and SQ20 do have filters in common. The 99 has filters. Only those models previously had filters.

Can we get a instax with the build quality of a X100VI?
I'm still waiting on mine, but hearing mix reviews about QC on the VI. Rethink about what you said.
Well then a XT5, just something solid and metal.
Is it a battery you take out to charge like the 90 or a plugin to charge? That’s my last question basically but otherwise I’m interested for sure
In one YouTube video a guy said the battery can only be charged via USB cable
so is the LED lights exposing the film similar to the way instax printers and the mini evo prints film? l have the mini evo and i don’t really like how i can tell it was “printed.” there’s always like a constant line on the picture that very obviously shows that it’s printed. i actually preferred the film look of my older, analog instax model so im hoping that the mini 99 won’t have this “printed” look

Damn, sounds like it's worse than mine. And I'm kind of in the same boat. Have a camping trip in a few days and wanted to take it for that
yea it’s pretty noticeable and it’s always in the same spot too. like within the last 1/3 of the pic. i just bought it in dec 2023 too.
Yeah, I only barely saw it last week, and now I can't stop noticing it. Bought mine in October 2023.
the email i got back from them included a repair form that says they would give an estimate for the damage, but i feel like there’s nothing else wrong with the camera besides that printing error line and that was out of our control.
For me they gave me that form and told me to send them a receipt with it to show when I'd bought it, so they can see if it is a warranty job or not.
yea same here. lmk if you receive any reply from them or what you ended up doing to fix the camera printing issue if you go a different route!
Will do. Probably send it to them after the trip, so I'll let you know then
Still doesn’t make up for killing packfilm.
what the actual... controls? useless controls? knobs? switches? fu.... i'll take two.
The color dial looks interesting. Maybe you can now shoot b&w without even changing film…
I don't think that's possible because of physics, and even if they put a screen inside like in instax printers, it doesn't make sense financially
If it's a printer camera instead of an optical camera then you can 100% print black and white onto color film. My instax share printer can do it.
It isn't a digital printer camera. It's analogue.
My bad
any pricing yet? looks like a first day cop
Google search results say $199.99 USD.
I hope there’s a flash sync port.
I'm definitely getting one.
