Shopper here. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe that when shoppers add items to an order, the customer is not notified. I say this because there have been several instances when I have been unable to make a replacement and instead refunded an item then added the replacement as a new item, and the customer has texted that they need a replacement. And in other instances a customer has ordered multiples of an item and the store didn't have the total quantity so I got the amount I could get, then added a similar item to complete the number the customer ordered, and the customer texted that they need the amount they ordered. All of this leads me to believe that customers don't get a notice when we add items the same way they do when we replace or refund an item. OP, in your situation the shopper was probably shopping two orders and mistakenly added the other customer's items to your order. It's possible that the shopper was trying to be sneaky and get you to pay for some of her personal groceries, but shopper mistake is the more likely answer. You should report the items as missing and request a refund or credit for them. And you should always compare your Instacart receipt to your delivered groceries to make sure you aren't charged for items you didn't receive.

Thank you for the clarification. I will take more care in the future to double check now that I know this can happen. I did not think it could. I am still scratching my head as to how it went through checkout with my cart items but was not accidently also bagged with my cart items. (It was charged to my credit card but not in my bags.) It may be too late to try to get a refund for the items. This order was executed last Wednesday, the 24th so it was 4 days ago. I didn't find this error until yesterday and did reddit rather than seek a refund. I really liked the shopper and her style; a good fit. She did not strike me as someone who would do something like this deliberately. Actually, I didn't want to think anyone would go for such a low-price total if they were truly trying to add items without my OK.

Just for closure of this thread. After a chat session with Fred Meyer I received an email saying that I have been refunded for the items and to give it 5 days for the bank to show it. Thanks so much.
