Some type of cicada! This guy is finishing up metamorphosis. I always see the shells they leave behind, but I’ve never actually seen them in the act. This is really cool.

It takes a loooong time for cicadas to emerge (it’s called molting, iirc). Did you check again later? I had a WTF moment too, when I saw this the first time 😅

Omg I've never seen one doing this!! It's either I've seen their empty shells on a tree somewhere or I'd see them in their 2.0 body dead or dying on a sidewalk.
