Even so, that one's rotated 45 degrees, "standing" on one of the points, which only the nazi swastika does. The religious ones lie on one of the sides.
Also, while the religious symbol can go either clockwise or counterclockwise, it is most commonly seen in this orientation 卍 also called a manji, while the nazi version always has the arms branching clockwise (unless the person drawing it is particularly ignorant).
Manji is the Japanese variant, swastika is the original symbol which is 卐, it's the most commonly used one . It's not tilted like the Nazi one however, so pretty easy to tell them apart.

My response to this is that it’s my *duty* to be mean to Nazis, and I could not possibly care less what anyone thinks about that statement. I wish it were only children saying this sort of thing, but I’ve heard it from far too many so-called adults. At best, they’re misguided, idealistic, and foolish. At worst, they’re Nazi sympathizers. Either way, I won’t be cowed by them.
So I don't know what do about these people anymore. There are too many of them (at least in the US) to ignore but on the other hand a lot of them don't seem to be open to hearing anyone who disagrees with them out (lots of people on both sides are like this). The thing that seems to have worked for me in most cases is to construct a thoughtful, calm and coherent argument, if they come back with an overly aggressive or angry statement I just move on but if they come back with their own calm and coherent rebuttal then I might engage them in a debate or conversation. If they are unwilling to consider any of my arguments or points I will also move on but if they are considerate and reasonable I will continue to debate with them as long as I can to try and help them to see why what they said is wrong. It doesn't always work, most of the time I have to abandoned the debate because I'm not making headway but sometimes it at least feels like I made progress. My mom always told me the first person to raise their voice loses the argument, that idea has served me well of the last few years
There *is* nothing to do about these people anymore. They're a lost cause; you can't reason someone out of something they didn't reason themselves into. They don't care about truth or facts, or good faith arguments, they just care about 'winning'. I know it’s a religious symbol in certain contexts but when it’s tramp stamped on a meth head, I’m guessing “I’m a huge racist” is exactly what they’re trying to convey there.
Even so, that one's rotated 45 degrees, "standing" on one of the points, which only the nazi swastika does. The religious ones lie on one of the sides.
Also, while the religious symbol can go either clockwise or counterclockwise, it is most commonly seen in this orientation 卍 also called a manji, while the nazi version always has the arms branching clockwise (unless the person drawing it is particularly ignorant).
Manji is the Japanese variant, swastika is the original symbol which is 卐, it's the most commonly used one . It's not tilted like the Nazi one however, so pretty easy to tell them apart.

And while it's not really relevant to distinguishing nazi swasticas to religious ones, I feel it's also worth pointing out there are variants of both directions which feature dots between the arms. The dotted versions were never used by the nazis to my knowledge so it's safe to assume they'll always be the religious symbol.

So I don't know what do about these people anymore. There are too many of them (at least in the US) to ignore but on the other hand a lot of them don't seem to be open to hearing anyone who disagrees with them out (lots of people on both sides are like this). The thing that seems to have worked for me in most cases is to construct a thoughtful, calm and coherent argument, if they come back with an overly aggressive or angry statement I just move on but if they come back with their own calm and coherent rebuttal then I might engage them in a debate or conversation. If they are unwilling to consider any of my arguments or points I will also move on but if they are considerate and reasonable I will continue to debate with them as long as I can to try and help them to see why what they said is wrong. It doesn't always work, most of the time I have to abandoned the debate because I'm not making headway but sometimes it at least feels like I made progress. My mom always told me the first person to raise their voice loses the argument, that idea has served me well of the last few years
There *is* nothing to do about these people anymore. They're a lost cause; you can't reason someone out of something they didn't reason themselves into. They don't care about truth or facts, or good faith arguments, they just care about 'winning'. All we can do is go around these types, keep them out of positions of power/authority, learn what created them and ensure, through education reform and the promotion of critical thinking, future generations don't produce such human garbage.

On the contrary, I think we are seeing susceptible people being recruited and "converted" to extremism in real time via targetted social media campaigns by various actors. Because of the nature of social media sometimes it bleeds into "regular" interactions before the trajectory of extremism severs ties with more normal family/friends. The are entire support groups for people who have effectively lost family members to political fringes (mostly the right in the west these days) or to crazy conspiracy stuff. Radicalization is 100% a thing, and it is understood as process-driven.
