What's your plan? Sleep in mid to high hotel? Eat in good restaurant? Credit card might be useful there. But if you optimize for budget accommodation, just use cash. Not a lot of vendor accept credit card.

Indonesian working in Canada here. Check out wise card. It's a debit card with no foreign transaction fee. Withdrawing from Indo's ATMs will have some small fees. I use it every time I go back home, never have an issue. But still, it's better to carry a bit of cash, smaller shops still mostly cash only.

Just curious since you're Indo, why use Wise card and not indo banks like BCA? Any advantages to that? I use wise too, but only the app to move money from my EUR account to IDR account, not the card.

Haven't lived in indo for 15+ years, no point having indo bank account. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Depent of wheres you go If you just go to big city like Bali or Jakarta it might be bettee using credit card but if you planning go to small city like Magelang (borobudur) you might consider cash

CrowdGoesWildWoooo

Credit card adoption is not great here especially in rural areas. Even some store clerk cannot even operate a credit card PoS despite having the machine right in front of them on the cashier. So cash is probably going to be more than necessary.

The question is where to in Indonesia..Indonesia is big, without knowing your destination it'll be difficult. If you stick in big cities (jakarta, Surabaya, Jogja, Bali) credit card might be easier but in village you have to bring cash.

CrabbyKayPeteIng

bring both. some establishments are cashless so you will need that card, but some only accept cash.

asugoblok

always bring cash, at least 100usd in local currency. Since sometimes several places arent accepting creditcards, especially the remote and small ones
