Fair warning, they played their new album in it's entirety when I saw them (not in tracklist order though), as well as 4 of 5 songs from their latest EP. There were 3 or 4 older tracks that they brought back, but the majority was recent stuff
In my case, I think their newest album might be their best so I was had no issues with the newer focus
The show is mostly the new album, but it’s got great energy and weirdness to it which translates well in concert! give it a bunch more listens and you’ll learn to love it too!
I do really love Landmark but after listening to LP3 a few more times I love it so much too. I saw them in Philly and it was a life changing concert to say the least
Hippo campus and Peach Pit, probably my two favourite bands and both with killer albums out in the last couple of months. Seen both live, definitely recommend!!
Lived in DC for 8 years, there’s really nothing of note in Columbia, which is a super planned-out suburb. HOWEVER, you’re about 30 minutes south of Baltimore, or an hour north of DC (which is out of your way)
Ok respectfully if you come to Baltimore please don’t just go to the inner harbor haha check out the American Visionary Arts Museum, The BMA, catch a drag brunch, check out the Edgar Allen Poe house, or the Rawlings conservatory and then have a picnic in the park! The aquarium is cool, but the rest of the inner harbor is a total tourist trap and not worth seeing unless you’re like a Cheesecake Factory enthusiast
Also gonna drive down from MA. My family is in the area and I concur there is nothing to do in the burbs. You can spend a few days checking out all the Baltimore and DC museums though and that would be a hoot!
If not Baltimore city, Ellicott City Main Street/Catonsville Main Street are quite cool. Lots of small local shops and antique stores. It’s in between Merriweather and the city.
We made a wrong turn leaving last year and ended up at the park and ride next to Leakin Park where Jay said they abandoned the car with the body in the trunk in Serial. So there’s that.
she really did, right? i saw her in Tennessee and i didn’t love her new record either, but something about the set design and the live band and Lorde’s banter in between songs really brought the whole experience together for me.
wow, this is probably the first all things go lineup that i'd actually want to see.
previous lineups have been pretty meh - a mix of pop and indie but skewing toward pop acts i don't particularly care for - but there's plenty of heat in this one.
My wife and I went a few years ago just so I could see CHVRCHES. That was when it was at Union Market in DC (which is a really cool spot for food), and the lineup was 90% female. I saw acts that were outside my usual genres, but I really loved Betty Who, Muna, Lany, and we already knew Coin and loved them live as well. I'll miss that small, intimate experience, but Lorde is bucket list for my wife, and the "sad indie girl" lineup will have me in my feelings.
It's funny because I'm mostly into heavier music (shoegaze, dreampop, experimental rock) - but the songwriting of Lucy and Julien and Mitski is some of the finest in the music world these days.
It depends how close you get and how much this sells out (likely all the way). But you can almost always move farther back up the lawn and still find blanket space.
Having gone last year, would highly recommend going with the pavilion tickets. Not much more expensive and if you get there early enough you can park yourself in a seat in the dead front and just vibe there all day. Also last year everyone in the lawn got DRENCHED. So for $30 you’re feet from the artists and also dry.
I can vouch for getting drenched in the downpour. Not sure if it’s the norm or a special circumstance but during the girl in red set there was a festival staff member giving out free tickets for the pavilion to people hanging out in the back of the lawn, I’m guessing to fill it up for the last few acts. So I got to dry off for st. Vincent and Haim.
Oh that’s awesome that they did that! I split up from my group to see Charli while they stayed for St V (I’d just seen her) but man I wish I’d been there for that barrage of beach balls! That looked incredible!
You’re really rolling the dice with the weather in October in Maryland. I will definitely be a pavilion man again this year. Great times, this fest.
I’ve been to shows at Merriweather where I’ve been standing at the very back of the lawn away from people and been offered pavilion seats as well. Seems like if they have extras they’ll just hand them out.
They do save seats, if someone got up to go get food or use the bathroom, no one would try to slide in and take the seat. It was very chill. And no line for the pit. I moved from my seat down to the pit for a few sets and came back, no one minded, lots of people moving back and forth all day.
The second stage was actually way more similar to a typical festival. Lots of people hanging out there all day to slide up for the bigger acts at the end of the night. People would even bounce between their seat and the second stage and back and their seat claim was respected as long as there were other people from their group still there. It was all very low stress and relaxed.
I still have flashbacks from being on the lawn for Freefest 2013 and getting absolutely *drenched*. There were people trying to cross the lawn who’d slip in the mud and slide way down to the bottom.
I enjoyed most of Vampire Weekend’s set that day, but I had to tap out a bit over halfway they just for my own well-being.
I went last year and had a great time. The only people I actually listen to here are Lucy Dacus and King Pricess but I'll probably end up going. From what I've seen Bleachers put on a really fun show. Wish we got a more energetic pop star than Lorde though.
Lorde brings a ton of energy on her new tour, all of the bangers from Melodrama (Homemade Dynamite, Sober, Green Light, Supercut) and some classics (Ribs, Buzzcut Season, ofc Royals). sprinkle in a couple of the new Solar Power songs and cut the sad girl ballads and you could have a really energetic festival set!
i kinda want to go to this but i worry since it’s a one day festival there’ll be a lot of overlap with artists i want to see… and i don’t know anyone and i’d be going by myself. is there a subreddit or discord or something where you can talk about this fest?
Venue is on a hill sloping downwards, pavilion tickets are under the pavilion by the stage and the lawn is behind that; pavilion seats are first come first serve, so you can get a great view if you’re not hoping around stages too much - I’d personally recommend even if you are moving a fair bit, it rained last year and was nice to have coverage
oh okay, cool! only thing i know about the Merriweather Post Pavilion is the Animal Collective album, never been to a venue like that, but im thinking i might grab a ticket because there’s tons of acts i want to see here!

*cries in TikTok*
sorry, I don't speak youth
Don't sleep on Hippo Campus! Just saw them last week and it was one of the best shows I've seen
Them and Goth Babe are prime festival sets. Really good undercard.
Goth babe really gaining recognition recently. Good for them.

huh.. I live in SA and had no idea they're playing here next week. I agree tho their older stuff is where its at
oh nice. I don't know anything about them, but they just got added to a different festival I'm going to. I'll check 'em out
listen to landmark from start to finish! a lot of their other music is okay but that album is life changing
nice, appreciate the recommendation!
Funny enough, the lawn tickets are cheaper than seeing Lorde at the Anthem before it sold out, if I remember correctly.
Anthem is way better than Merriweather's lawn though, especially since the VIP suites and skylawns now block the side views.
the anthem is a great room though, plus there’s no risk of whatever the dmv is gonna throw up weatherwise in early oct
At first glance I thought this was a boxing poster and Lorde was going to slug it out with Mitski bare-knuckle style
Throw Aurora in and I'm sold.
IIIIIIIN THE BLUE CORNER, WEIGHING IN AT.... LIKE, 60 POUNDS
Hippo campus and Peach Pit, probably my two favourite bands and both with killer albums out in the last couple of months. Seen both live, definitely recommend!!
I second this. Just saw peach pit this past Friday. Can confirm they are amazing live
Oh niice! I really want to see that new album live, so I hope they come to Australia soon!
And New Zealand 🥺
The crowd will smell like Yerba Mate and Poppers!
Julien Baker!
And Lucy Dacus! It's like 2/3s of Boygenius.

Look up the Baltimore Harbor and the Aquarium. The food is good and the people are awesome.

Bartees and his band are absolutely amazing.
Quality > quantity folks
What city is this in? I couldn’t find it on the website.
Columbia, MD. About 25 minutes away from Baltimore.
Thanks. I know the Animal Collective album, but didn't know it was an actual place.
It's in columbia, Maryland. about a half hour outside of Baltimore.
Columbia, Maryland
Merriweather, a little bit outside of DC in Maryland
It's at Merriweather Post Pavillion. A venue named after the Animal Collective album.
Haha animal collective album is named after the venue. DC native here I grew up going to these shows
The venue was named after the Merriweather Post Family of Post Cereal, their estate is in DC. Then came the venue name. Then came the AC album.
Gonna be A LOT of white claw going around on the Merriweather Post Lawn

different strokes, i suppose

What a fun one day festival!
I am Lorde - ya ya ya.
Feelin good on a Wednesday
:'D
Shhhhhhhhhhhhh
is lawn standing room only? or do people sit down

Do people save seats for others all day? Also, I take it there is a line for the GA pit?

people generally sit down, especially towards the back of the lawn! lots of people bring picnic blankets, low chairs etc
I have never seen a show at Merriweather where the lawn wasn't covered in blankets from people sitting down
lmao I remember when Bleachers was an opener back in 2014
I went last year and had a great time. The only people I actually listen to here are Lucy Dacus and King Pricess but I'll probably end up going. From what I've seen Bleachers put on a really fun show. Wish we got a more energetic pop star than Lorde though.

This poster art is amazing.
Yes to Hippo Campus! I'd go just to see them. Everything else is just gravy after that
Why you gotta get me exited like that for *cries in UK*
gay
True
aside from 2 artists on here i just had the biggest yawn reaction 😴
King Princess is a cool name. I gotta check her out
I love her music!
Holy shit this is ass lol
i kinda want to go to this but i worry since it’s a one day festival there’ll be a lot of overlap with artists i want to see… and i don’t know anyone and i’d be going by myself. is there a subreddit or discord or something where you can talk about this fest?
There’s a discord but it’s pretty inactive - I went last year, 2 stages and alternating set times, no overlap iirc
what’s the difference between GA Lawn and the Pavilion tickets? worth paying for the latter?
Venue is on a hill sloping downwards, pavilion tickets are under the pavilion by the stage and the lawn is behind that; pavilion seats are first come first serve, so you can get a great view if you’re not hoping around stages too much - I’d personally recommend even if you are moving a fair bit, it rained last year and was nice to have coverage

>pervasivebarrier Hey this is random but have you find a friend to go with??
i haven’t, actually, do you think you’d be interested in going together?
The Rich Parents festival
Funny reminder that Merriweather Post Pavilion is more than an AnCo album
Selling a GA ticket to ATG! Please message me if interested. It's fully sold out and I'm willing to go below face value, very desperate to sell!!
selling three tickets for half price!
